  • Bi-layer Mo films were deposited on sodalime glass substrates using DC magnetron sputtering. As the gas pressure and power density, the resistivity varied from $1.5{\times}10^{-5}$ to $4.97{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Furthermore, stress direction yielded compressive-to-tensile transition stress curves. The microstructure of the compressive stress films which had poor adhesion consists of tightly packed columns, but of the tensile-stressed films had less dense structure. Under all gas pressure conditions, Mo films exhibited distinctly increasing optical reflection with decreasing gas pressure. The expansion of (110) peak width with the gas pressure meant the worse crystalline growth. Also, The highest efficiency was 15.2% on 0.2 $cm^2$. • This research was undertaken to clarify effects of thermal aging on electrochemical and mechanical properties of superaustenitic stainless steel. The steel was artificially aged at $300{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ for $240{\sim}10,000hrs$. and investigated at $-196{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ using small punch(SP) test. Also, the change in electrochemical properties caused by effects of thermal aging was investigated using electrochemical anodic polarization test in a KOH electrolyte. Carbides and ${\eta}-phase(Fe_2Mo)$ precipitated in the grain bounderies seem to deteriorate the mechanical properties by decreasing cohesive strength in the grain bounderies and promote the current density observed in electrochemical polarization curves. The electrochemical and mechanical properties of superaustenitic stainless steel was drastically decreased in the specimen aged at $650^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, growth and burning behavior of 6061 aluminum alloy was studied under constant anodic voltages at various temperatures and magnetic stirring rates in 20% sulfuric acid solution by analysing I-t curves, measuring thickness and hardness of aluminum anodic oxide (AAO) films, observations of surface and cross-sectional images of AAO films. AAO films were grown continuously at lower voltages than 18.5V but burning occurred when a voltage more than 19V was applied in 20% H2SO4 solution at 20±0.5℃ and 200 rpm of magnetic stirring. The burning was always related with an extremely large increase of anodic current density with anodizing time, suggesting that high heat generation during anodizing causes deteriorations of AAO films by chemical reaction with acidic solutions. The burning resulted in decreases of film thickness and hardness, surface color brightened and formation of porous defects in the AAO films. The burning voltage was found to decrease with increasing solution temperature and decreasing magnetic stirring rate. The decreased burning voltages seem to be closely related with increased chemical reactions between AAO films and hydrogen ions.

  • Epidemiologic studies have shown that low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a strong risk factor, whilst high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) reduces the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). Therefore, strategies to manage dyslipidemia in an effort to prevent or treat CHD have primarily attempted at decreasing LDL-C and raising HDL-C levels. Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) mediates the exchange of cholesteryl ester for triglycerides between HDL and VLDL and LDL. We have published the first report indicating that a group of Japanese patients who were lacking CETP had extremely high HDL-C levels, low LDL-C levels and a low incidence of CHD. Animal studies, as well as clinical and epidemiologic evidences, have suggested that inhibition of CETP provides an effective strategy to raise HDL-C and reduce LDL-C levels. Four CETP inhibitors have substantially increased HDL-C levels in dyslipidemic patients. This review will discuss the current status and future prospects of CETP inhibitors in the treatment of CHD. At present anacetrapib by Merck and evacetrapib by Eli Lilly are under development. By 100mg of anacetrapib HDL-C increased by 138%, and LDL-C decreased by 40%. Evacetrapib 500 mg also showed dramatic 132% increase of HDL-C, while LDL-C decreased by 40%. If larger, long-term, randomized, clinical end point trials could corroborate other findings in reducing atherosclerosis, CETP inhibitors could have a significant impact in the management of dyslipidemic CHD patients. Inhibition of CETP synthesis by antisense oligonucleotide or small molecules will produce more similar conditions to human CETP deficiency and may be effective in reducing atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events. We are expecting the final data of prospective clinical trials by CETP inhibitors in 2015.

  • The effect of Sm2O3 doping on the microstructure and electrical properties of the ZPCCA-based varistors is comprehensively investigated. The increase of doping content of Sm2O3 results in better densification (from 5.70 to 5.82 g/cm3) and smaller mean grain size (from 7.8 to 4.1 ㎛). The breakdown electric field increases significantly from 2568 to 6800 V/cm as the doping content of Sm2O3 increases. The doping of Sm2O3 remarkably improves the nonlinear properties (increasing from 23.9 to 91 in the nonlinear coefficient and decreasing from 35.2 to 0.2 µA/cm2 in the leakage current density). Meanwhile, the doping of Sm2O3 reduces the donor concentration (the range of 2.73 × 1018 to 1.18 × 1018 cm-3) of bulk grain and increases the barrier height (the range of 1.10 to 1.49 eV) at the grain boundary. The density of the interface states decreases in the range of of 5.31 × 1012 to 4.08 × 1012 cm-2 with the increase of doping content of Sm2O3. The dielectric constant decreases from 1594.8 to 507.5 with the increase of doping content of Sm2O3.

  • Because the ionic liquid added with Propylene carbonate(PC) at room temperature has lower viscosity than original, we considered electrochemical behavior of it in EDLC. The ionic liquid without PC which does not have ions has no problem in capacity since it has enough ions. The electrolyte resistance was decreased with decreasing viscosity. As a result of identifying high current discharge capacity, we observed that the ionic liquid had capacity of 73.12% at current density of $80\;mA/cm^{-2}$, but it increased to 81.94% at PC content of 40 vol%.

  • We report on the effect of additives on the microstructure and corrosion properties of electrodeposited Cu films. Copper films were fabricated by electrodeposition on various concentrations of gelatin in a copper sulfate electrolyte. The surface morphologies of the Cu films were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and crystal orientation of the Cu films was analyzed by X-ray diffraction measurement. (220) plane was the dominant orientation when the films were fabricated at ambient temperature, decreasing in dominance with addition of gelatin. On the other hand, (111) plane-Cu films were preferentially grown at $40^{\circ}C$, and were also diminished with adding additives. Corrosion rate measurements using the Tafel extrapolation method based on corrosion potential and current reveal the effect of additives on corrosion behavior. Corrosion behavior was found to be strongly related to the orientation of the films. Consequently, additives like gelatin influence crystal orientation of the films, and if a less dense crystal plane, e.g. (220), is preferentially oriented during electrodeposition, a lower corrosion rate could be produced, since the plane shows a lower current density.

  • With increasing interest in an underground-type ammunition storage facility, several design results have been provided recently. However, since not only experts in the tunnel but also military persons in charge of ammunition have not fully understood the safety distance standard, reliable design results are not being produced. In this study, the effective design method of an underground-type ammunition storage facility was provided by analyzing the current safety distance standard. First, the critical safety distances that dominate the size of construction site for underground-type ammunition storage facilities were evaluated, which are the layout of chambers and the configuration of the entrances. Then, the decreasing effect of inter-chamber distance was studied according to the rock type and the storage density of ammunition. In addition, the method of designing tunnels with parallel lines and two-floors was considered for arranging more chambers while complying with the safety distance standards. In particular, numerical simulations were carried out to determine the satisfaction of the safety distance standards when an underground-type ammunition storage facility is composed of two-floor and the decreasing effect of inter-chamber distance according to the inner explosive pressure reduction. Finally, the method to adjust the size of entrances and the path of pressure were studied for decreasing the safety distance at the entrance.
