To solve the classification problems, various data mining techniques have been applied to database marketing, credit scoring and market forecasting. In this paper, we compare various techniques such as bagging, boosting, LASSO, random forest and support vector machine with the daily lens transaction data. The classical techniques-decision tree, logistic regression-are used too. The experiment shows that the random forest has a little smaller misclassification rate and standard error than those of other methods. The performance of the SVM is good in the sense of misclassfication rate and bad in the sense of standard error. Taking the model interpretation and computing time into consideration, we conclude that the LASSO gives the best result.

This research proposes a novel approach for Tamil Handwritten Character Recognition (THCR) that combines feature selection and ensemble learning techniques. The Tamil script is complex and highly variable, requiring a robust and accurate recognition system. Feature selection is used to reduce dimensionality while preserving discriminative features, improving classification performance and reducing computational complexity. Several feature selection methods are compared, and individual classifiers (support vector machines, neural networks, and decision trees) are evaluated through extensive experiments. Ensemble learning techniques such as bagging, and boosting are employed to leverage the strengths of multiple classifiers and enhance recognition accuracy. The proposed approach is evaluated on the HP Labs Dataset, achieving an impressive 95.56% accuracy using an ensemble learning framework based on support vector machines. The dataset consists of 82,928 samples with 247 distinct classes, contributed by 500 participants from Tamil Nadu. It includes 40,000 characters with 500 user variations. The results surpass or rival existing methods, demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach. The research also offers insights for developing advanced recognition systems for other complex scripts. Future investigations could explore the integration of deep learning techniques and the extension of the proposed approach to other Indic scripts and languages, advancing the field of handwritten character recognition.
Structural monitoring is the most important part of the construction and operation of the embankment dams. Appropriate instruments selection for dams is vital, as inappropriate selection causes irreparable loss in critical condition. Due to the lack of a systematic approach to determine adequate instruments, a framework based on three comparable Multi-Attribute Decision Making (MADM) methods, which are VIKOR, technique of order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and Preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE), has been developed. MADM techniques have been widely used for optimizing priorities and determination of the most suitable alternatives. However, the results of the different methods of MADM have indicated inconsistency in ranking alternatives due to closeness of judgements from decision makers. In this study, 9 criteria and 42 geotechnical instruments have been applied. A new method has been developed to determine the decision makers' importance weights and an aggregation method has been introduced to optimally select the most suitable instruments. Consequently, the outcomes of the aggregation ranking correlate about 94% with TOPSIS and VIKOR, and 83% with PROMETHEE methods' results providing remarkably appropriate prioritisation of instruments for embankment dams.
The purpose of this study is to investigate a decision making support system for the effective information management. Decision making theory is reviewed and problems are discussed. A model is suggested through the computing of expected monetary value in decision tree technique. The expected monetary value is computed by 1 inking the probability theory with chance node. The selection of right expected monetary value and expected value of perfect information will make great advance the present system. It is concluded that expected monetary value and expected value of perfect information in decision tree techniques will make great aids to advance information management system.
Purpose Youth unemployment is a social problem that continues to emerge in Korea. In this study, we create a model that predicts the employment of college graduates using decision tree, random forest and artificial neural network among machine learning techniques and compare the performance between each model through prediction results. Design/methodology/approach In this study, the data processing was performed, including the acquisition of the college graduates' vocational path survey data first, then the selection of independent variables and setting up dependent variables. We use R to create decision tree, random forest, and artificial neural network models and predicted whether college graduates were employed through each model. And at the end, the performance of each model was compared and evaluated. Findings The results showed that the random forest model had the highest performance, and the artificial neural network model had a narrow difference in performance than the decision tree model. In the decision-making tree model, key nodes were selected as to whether they receive economic support from their families, major affiliates, the route of obtaining information for jobs at universities, the importance of working income when choosing jobs and the location of graduation universities. Identifying the importance of variables in the random forest model, whether they receive economic support from their families as important variables, majors, the route to obtaining job information, the degree of irritating feelings for a month, and the location of the graduating university were selected.

Recently, many companies have applied data mining techniques to promote competitive power in the field of their business market. In this study, we address how data mining, that is a technique to enable to discover knowledge from a deluge of data, Is used in an executed project in order to support decision making of an enterprise. Also, we develope scoring model on customer attrition probability for automobile-insurance company using data mining techniques. The development of scoring model in domestic insurance is given as an example concretely.
The prediction of future demand is a vital task in managing business operations. To this end, traditional approaches often focused on statistical techniques such as exponential smoothing and moving average. The need for better accuracy has led to nonlinear techniques such as neural networks and case based reasoning. In addition, experimental design techniques such as orthogonal arrays may be used to assist in the formulation of an effective methodology. This paper investigates a multistrategy approach involving neural nets, case based reasoning, and orthogonal arrays. Neural nets and case based reasoning are employed both separately and in combination, while orthoarrays are used to determine the best architecture for each approach. The comparative evaluation is performed in the context of an application relating to the prediction of Treasury notes.
The goal of this study is to review the major research trend on the convergence studies of AI and healthcare technologies. For the study, 15,260 English articles on AI and healthcare related topics were collected from Scopus for 55 years from 1963, and text mining techniques were conducted. As a result, seven key research topics were defined : "AI for Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS)", "AI for Medical Image", "Internet of Healthcare Things (IoHT)", "Big Data Analytics in Healthcare", "Medical Robotics", "Blockchain in Healthcare", and "Evidence Based Medicine (EBM)". The result of this study can be utilized to set up and develop the appropriate healthcare R&D strategies for the researchers and government. In this study, text mining techniques such as Text Analysis, Frequency Analysis, Topic Modeling on LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation), Word Cloud, and Ego Network Analysis were conducted.

Recently, Decision Support Systems (DSS) research has seen a more to combine Artificial Intelligence (AI) including neural network techniques with traditional DSS concepts and technologies to build an intelligent DSS or a knowledge-based DSS. This article proposes a Management Evaluation and its Support System (MESS) as a knowledge-based DSS. The management evaluation of a firm means the performance of all managerial operations is appraised by considering the situations of the firm. A neural network is used to represent the management evaluation structure as a suitable means of management knowledge representation. Finally a case study in a telecommunication corporation is presented.
This paper is to evaluate the application potentials of data mining in the areas of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and to suggest the architectures of Decision Support Systems (DSS) that support data mining activities. We first briefly introduce data mining and review the recent literatures on SCM and then evaluate data mining applications to SCM in three aspects: marketing, operations management and information systems. By analyzing the cases about pricing models in distribution channels, demand forecasting and quality control, it is shown that artificial intelligence techniques such as artificial neural networks, case-based reasoning and expert systems, combined with traditional analysis models, effectively mine the useful knowledge from the large volume of SCM data. Agent-based information system is addressed as an important architecture that enables the pursuit of global optimization of SCM through communication and information sharing among supply chain constituents without loss of their characteristics and independence. We expect that the suggested architectures of intelligent DSS provide the basis in developing information systems for SCM to improve the quality of organizational decisions.
