  • In this paper, we propose a new type of RAKE receiver for complementary code keying (CCK) codes, which is suitable for the multipath channel with large delay spread. Our proposed system is based on channel matched filter (CMF) with decision feedback equalizer (DFE) and contains codeword DFE structure. In our system, inter chip interference (ICI) and inter symbol interference (ISI) generated due to multipath environments are calculated by using detected CCK codeword. Also it uses the error correcting capability of CCK codes, and it can remove ISI and ICI at the same time.

  • In this paper, a structure for a nonlinear adaptive equalizer is discussed to reduce nonlinearity in digital high-density recording systems. We propose a nonlinear adaptive decision feedback equalizer which can reduce the nonlinear intersymbol interference increasing with high-density recording systems, and compare its performance with the RAM-DFE which is designed to remove nonlinear intersymbol interference existing in postcursor part. By observing the output SNR of each equalizer applied to recording channels with three different densities. we confirm that the nonlinear adaptive decision feedback equalizer performs the best in the general case where nonlinear intersymbol interference exists in both precursor and postcursor parts.

  • In this paper, we propose a reliable Image transmission system with Decision Feedback Equalization (DFE), and use diversity combining techniques over multipath fading channels. It is shown that the proposed system has the features of simplicity in implementation with DFE and diversity combining techniques without modifying DFE. This study includes error concealment techniques for reconstruction of missing blocks in JPEG. To verify and compare the performance of our proposed system, the computer simulations have been performed in three diversity combining cases.

  • This paper proposes a DFE (Decision Feedback Equalizer) equalizer ASIC using the Multi-Modulus Algorithm (MMA) for cable modem applications. We believe that it is the first effort to combine the DFE structure and the MMA algorithm. The proposed equalizer has been designed for 64/256 QAM modems. The existing MMA equalizer uses two transversal filters and updates two tap weights while the proposed equalizer uses two DFE filter banks to improve the channel adaptive performance and to reduce the number of taps and updates only one tap weights. We have used the 0.35 $\mu\textrm{m}$ standard cell library. The implemented equalizer ASIC operates at 8 MHz and provides 64 Mbps which is higher than existing equalizers. The total number of gates are about 160,000.

  • Underwater Acoustic Channels (UAC) have inherent sparse characteristics. The traditional adaptive equalization techniques do not utilize this feature to improve the performance. In this paper we consider the Variable Adaptive Subgradient Projection (V-ASPM) method to derive a new sparse equalization algorithm based on the Minimum Symbol Error Rate (MSER) criterion. Compared with the original MSER algorithm, our proposed scheme adds sparse matrix to the iterative formula, which can assign independent step-sizes to the equalizer taps. How to obtain such proper sparse matrix is also analyzed. On this basis, the selection scheme of the sparse matrix is obtained by combining the variable step-sizes and equalizer sparsity measure. We call the new algorithm Sparse-Control Proportional-MSER (SC-PMSER) equalizer. Finally, the proposed SC-PMSER equalizer is embedded into a turbo receiver, which perform turbo decoding, Digital Phase-Locked Loop (DPLL), time-reversal receiving and multi-reception diversity. Simulation and real-field experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in convergence speed and Bit Error Rate (BER).

  • A strategic decision making needs a sound process modeling to find out the right path of organizational changes; however, dynamic feedback processes involved in a real world business, make it difficult to predict the outcomes of strategic decisions. In this paper, we present a conceptual framework to facilitate strategic decision making process for organizational changes. The framework, which employs the concepts of analytic network process (ANP) and system dynamics (SD), can be used to prioritize various projects under consideration and to make a long-term strategic plan in a constructive manner.

  • One of the key objectives of control systems is to maintain a system in a specific stable state. To achieve this goal, a variety of control techniques can be used and it is often uses a feedback control method. As known this kind of control methods requires mathematical model of the system. This article presents seesaw unstable system with two propellers which are controlled without use of a mathematical model instead. The goal was to control it using training data. For system control we use a logistic regression technique which is one of machine learning method. We tested our controller on the real model created in our laboratory and the experimental results show that instability of the seesaw system can be fixed at a given angle using the decision boundary estimated from the classification method. The results show that this control method for structural equilibrium can be used with relatively more accuracy of the decision boundary.

  • A new lattice structure using decision feedback and augmented prediction for estimating and suppressing the narrowband interference is presented. The performance of the proposed interference canceller is compared to the conventional interference cancellation filter. The reference signal of the interference canceller is formed by using the chip decisions, which is correlated with the narrowband interference components of the received signal. The decision feedback technique reduce the distortion of the desired signal which is introduced by the interference canceller through the use of feedback chip decisions. And by linear prediction of the error signal, the residual interference component of can be eliminated, Using this unconteminated error signal to update the adaptive filter coefficients, the performance of the rejection can be improved. In the simulation, it is assumed that the processing gains are 7 and 15, signal to interference ratio is -10[dB], and 5% interference band. The results show that the BER performance of the proposed filter structure is improved by 1~3dB.

  • In this paper, we present bit error rate(BER) performance of an adaptive decision feedback equalizer(DFE) using experimental data. The experiment was performed at the shore of Geoje in November 2007. The BER of the adaptive DFE whose tap weight is updated by RLS is described with change of feedforward filter length, feedback filter length, training sequence length, and delay, which shows that the uncoded average BER is $4{\times}10^2\;and\;1.5{\times}10^{-2}$ with transmission range of 9.7km and 4km, respectively. The BER of the adaptive DFE can be lower than 10-3 by a forward error correction code and therefore the adaptive DFE may be a good candidate for a high speed AUV communications since the volume and weight of the underwater acoustic modem should be small because of the restricted space and power in the battery-operated AUV.

  • Recently, interest in research and development (R&D) investment decisions have increased among Korean domestic enterprises. However, existing R&D investment studies only focused on government R&D investment policies while only a few studies investigated firm level R&D investment. Prior literatures also overlooked the feedback loop between R&D investment and firm performance. Therefore, this paper identifies a system dynamics model for R&D investment decision making in domestic electronics firms. The conceptual model is derived from R&D investment-related theories found in bodies of literature on company performance, enterprise activity, and market maturity. This study investigates the dynamic feedback between R&D activities and sales using the system dynamics model. In other words, the system dynamics model is used to explain the change in the closed feedback circulation structure in R&D investment activities including technology development, production process, and marketing that subsequently result in sales increase and re-investment into R&D from the generated revenues. There are two major results. First, a similar ratio of investment on technology development and production process derives the higher company sales. Second, regardless of market maturity, marketing investment ratio positively affects sales and R&D budget growth. This study provides a system dynamics model to find the optimal ratio for R&D investment and suggests managerial strategic implications on electronic firm R&D investment decision making under market maturity condition.
