  • Mobile Mapping Systems using the vehicle equipped the GPS, IMU, CCD Cameras is the effective system for the management of the road facilities, update of the digital map, and etc. They must provide users with the sensor data which is acquired by Mobile Mapping Systems in real-time so that users can process what they want by using the latest data. But it' s not an easy process because the amount of sensor data is very large, particularly image data to be transmitted. So it is necessary to reduce the amount of image data so that it is transmitted effectively. In this study, the effective method was suggested for the compression/decompression image data using the Wavelet Transformation and Huffman Coding. This technique will be possible to transmit of the geographic information effectively such as position data, attitude data, and image data acquired by Mobile Mapping Systems in the wireless internet environment when data is transmitted in real-time.

  • Although many successful cases regarding big data have been reported, building information systems of big data is still difficult. From the perspective of technology the builders need to understand the whole process of systems development ranging from collecting, storing, processing, and analyzing data to presenting and using information. Whereas, from the perspective of business, the builders need to understand the values of the proposed big data project and explain to top managers who have to make a decision of the risky investment. This study proposes a framework of 5W 1H that can help the builder understand things related to the development of big data information systems. In addition, big data cases from the real world have been illustrated by applying to the framework. It is expected to help builders understand and manage big data projects and lead managers to make better decisions of the investment to the development of information systems.

  • This paper proposes a geospatial data visualization system supporting validation of GML documents. GIS systems manage and use both of spatial and non-spatial data. Currently, most GIS systems represent spatial data in GML (Geography Markup Language) developed by OGC. GML is a language for representation and sharing of spatial information, and until now many systems have been developed in GML. GML does not support expression of non-spatial data, i.e., relational information of spatial objects, and thus most systems extend GML to describe non-spatial information. However, it causes an issue that the systems only accepting standard GML documents cannot process the extended documents. In this paper, we propose a new GIS data visualization system to resolve the aforementioned Issue. Our proposed system allows the representation of both types of data supporting independency of spatial data and non-spatial data. It enhances interoperability with other relevant systems. Therefore, we can develop a rich and high Quality geospatial information services.

  • For the success to PLM in manufacturing industries, the creation, management and coordination of all product-related information are essential, and the exchange of product information and data has become an important part of the product development. In this paper, we define the neutral schema, and it refers to PLM Services. Based on this neutral schema, we develop the PLM Integrator to exchange product information and data between diverse heterogeneous systems including PDM systems. We apply the PLM Integrator developed in this paper to commercial PDM systems such as SmarTeam, Teamcenter Engineering and MEMPHIS which is a data exchange middleware system for VR applications. By implementations, exchanges of product information and data can be done without loss of information. Also, the PLM Integrator can upload and download product information, data and related files. The result of this paper can not only reduce unnecessary efforts for data exchanging between different information systems including PDM/PLM systems but also provide a collaborative environment for PLM.

  • As the management and preservation of the environment become an important social issue, information required to support environmental task is required. So, there is an increasing demand for environmental information and appropriate systems to manage it. The vast volume of environmental data is distributed in different knowledge domains and systems. Environmental data objects have the complex structure containing environmental quality data and attribute data. Environmental information systems must be able to address these properties. This research has aimed at constructing well-defined schema design of environmental data, and making system architecture that environmental data kept by authorities should be made available to the public user. There are 3 major components in environmental information systems architecture ; User interface, Catalog libraries, Communication Provider. Web browsers provide consistent and intuitive user interfaces on Internet. The communication provider is a collection of diverse CGI functions. The main roles of the CGIs are to build interfaces between the Web, databases. Catalog libraries is libraries of various matadata including administration matadata. Administration matadata support the environmental administration and the managerial aspects of environmental data rather than explain a database itself or its properties.

  • The exchange of model design data among heterogeneous CAD systems is very difficult because each CAD system has different data structures suitable for its own functions. STEP represents product information in a common computer-interpretable form that is required to remain complete and consistent when the product information is needed to be exchanged among different computer systems. However, STEP has complex architecture to represent point, line, curve and vectors of element. Moreover it can't represent geometry data of feature based models. In this study, a structure of XML document that represents geometry data of feature based models as neutral format has been developed. To use the developed XML document, a converter also has been developed to exchange modules so that it can exchange feature based data models among heterogeneous CAD systems. Developed XML document and Converter have been applied to commercial CAD systems.

  • Traditionally, biologists have devoted their careers to studying individual biological entities of their own interest, partly due to lack of available data regarding that entity. Large, high-throughput data, too complex for conventional processing methods (i.e., "big data"), has accumulated in cancer biology, which is freely available in public data repositories. Such challenges urge biologists to inspect their biological entities of interest using novel approaches, firstly including repository data retrieval. Essentially, these revolutionary changes demand new interpretations of huge datasets at a systems-level, by so called "systems biology". One of the representative applications of systems biology is to generate a biological network from high-throughput big data, providing a global map of molecular events associated with specific phenotype changes. In this review, we introduce the repositories of cancer big data and cutting-edge systems biology tools for network generation, and improved identification of therapeutic targets.

  • Compressed sensing is a novel technology used in the field of wireless communication and sensor networks for channel estimation, signal detection, data gathering, network monitoring, and other applications. It plays a significant role in highly secure, real-time, well organized, and cost-effective data communication in smart-grid (SG) systems, which consist of multi-tier network standards that make it challenging to synchronize in power management communication. In this paper, we present a multi-layer communication model for SG systems and propose compressed-sensing based data transmission at every layer of the SG system to improve data transmission performance. Our approach is to utilize the compressed-sensing procedure at every layer in a controlled manner. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed monitoring devices need less transmission power than conventional systems. Additionally, secure, reliable, and real-time data transmission is possible with the compressed-sensing technique.

  • Data center is an information hub and resource for information-centric society. Since data center houses hundreds to ten thousands servers, networking and communication equipment, and supporting systems energy saving is one of the hottest issues for green data center. Among several solutions for green data center this paper introduces higher voltage direct current (DC) power feeding system. Contrary to legacy alternating current (AC) power feeding system equipped with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), higher voltage DC power feeding system is reported to be a more energy efficient and reliable solution for green data center thanks to less AC/DC and DC/AC conversions. Main focus of this paper is on reliability issue for reliable and continuous operation of higher voltage DC power feeding system. We present different types of configuration of the power feeding systems according to the level of reliability. We analyze the reliability of the power feeding systems based on M/M/1/N+1/N+1 queueing model. Operation of the power feeding system in case of failure is also presented.

  • As the networks connect the world, enterprises tend to move manufacturing activities into virtual spaces. Since different software applications use different data terminology, it becomes a problem to interoperate, interchange, and manage electronic data among heterogeneous systems. It is said that approximately one billion dollar has been being spent yearly in USA for product data exchange and interoperability. As commercial CAD systems have brought in the concept of design feature for the sake of interoperability, terminologies of design features need to be harmonized. In order to define design feature terminology for integration, knowledge about feature definitions of different CAD systems should be considered. STEP standard have attempted to solve this problem, but it defines only syntactic data representation so that semantic data integration is not possible. This paper proposes a methodology for integrating modeling features of CAD systems. We utilize the ontology concept to build a data model of design features which can be a semantic standard of feature definitions of CAD systems. Using feature ontology, we implement an integrated virtual database and a simple system which searches and edits design features in a semantic way.
