Development of a 3D real-time visualization system for ship handling simulators using an open source 3D graphics engine (공개형 3D 그래픽 엔진을 활용한 선박 운항 시뮬레이터용 실시간 3D 가시화 시스템 개발)

  • A ship handling simulator is popular means of preventing marine accidents caused by human error. It can also be used to train navigators. A real-time 3D visualization system, a component of a ship handling simulator, is an important component, as realistic and intuitive image generation play an essential role in improving the effects of education using ship handling simulators. This paper discusses the design of a new real-time 3D visualization system based on an open source 3D graphics engine as well as its implementation. The developed real-time 3D visualization system satisfies the operational requirements derived in terms of visualization functionalities, reuse of legacy graphic data, and interoperability with other systems constituting a ship handling simulator. This system has an architecture in which new functionalities are easily added.

Modelling of effluent and GHGs for wastewater treatment plants using by MS Excel simulator(PKES) (MS Excel 시뮬레이터(PKES)를 이용한 하수처리장 유출수 및 온실가스 모델링)

  • This paper presents PKES(PuKyung -Excel based Simulator) for WWTPs(wastewater treatment plants) by using MS Excel and VBA(Visual Basic for Application). PKES is a user-friendly simulator for the design and optimization of the whole plant including biological and physico-chemical processes for the wastewater and sludge treatment. PKES calculates the performance under steady or dynamic state and allows changing the mathematical model by the user. Mathematical model implemented in PKES is a improved integration model based on ASM2d and ADM1 for simulation of AS(activated sludge) and AD(anaerobic digestion). Gaseous components of $N_2$, $N_2O$, $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ are added for estimation of GHGs(greenhouse gases) emission. The simulation results for comparison between PKES and Aquasim(EAWAG) showed about the same effluent concentrations. As a result of verification using by measured data of BOD, TSS, TN and TP for 2 years of operation, calculated effluent concentrations were similar to measured effluent concentrations. The values of average RMSE(root mean square error) were 1.9, 0.8, 1.6 and 0.2 mg/L for BOD, TSS, TN and TP, respectively. Total GHGs emission of WWTP calculated by PKES was 138.5 ton-$CO_2$/day and GHGs emissions of $N_2O$, $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ were calculated at 21.7, 28.9 and 87.9 ton-$CO_2$/day, respectively. GHGs emission of activated sludge was 32.5 % and that of anaerobic digestion was 67.5 %.

  • To ensure accurate measurements of wireless network performance, it should be collected real-time data which are transmitted between a large number of nodes in the actual network environment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop simulation tool for finding optimal network system design method such as media access control, routing technique, ad-hoc algorithm of node deployment while overcoming spatial and temporal constraints. Our research attempts to provide an improved architecture and design method of simulation tool for wireless network is an application of multi-threading technique in these issues. We finally show that usability of the proposed simulator by comparing results derived from same test environment in the wireless LAN model of our simulator and widely used network simulation package, NS-2.

A Study on Driver's Physiological Response in Train Simulator (열차 시뮬레이터 조작 시 운전자의 생체신호 변화에 대한 연구)

  • he purpose of this study is to measure bio-signal to investigate the driver's physiological response change under real situation using train simulator. The train simulator used in this study is KTX model and according to changes of driving situation, The bio-signal controlled by autonomic nervous system, such as GSR(Galvanic Skin Response), SpO2(Saturation percent O2), HR(Heart Rate), ECG(Electrocardiograph), EEG(Electroencephagram) and movement and response of eye were measured. Statistically significant difference in bio-signal data and eye movement activity pattern were investigated under several different driving speeds using analysis of variance (p<0.05). The GSR and HR value measured in average and mission speed operation is higher than in high-speed operation. β wave of EEG in average speed operation become more activated than in high speed operation. In accordance with a characteristic of rail vehicle, movement and response of eye in high-speed operation requiring relatively simple maneuver become less activated than in either average or mission speed operations. Conclusively, due to more careful driving controls in average and mission speed operation are required than in high-speed operation, level of mental and physical stresses of train driver was increased and observed through changes of bio-signal and eye movement measured in this study.

  • NAND flash memory has been widely used than traditional HDD in PDA and other mobile devices, embedded systems, PC because of faster access speed, low power consumption, vibration resistance and other benefits. DiskSim and other HDD simulators has been developed that for find improvements for the software or hardware. But there is a few Linux-based simulators for NAND flash memory and SSD. There is necessary for Windows-based NAND flash simulator because storage devices and PC using Windows. This paper describe for development of simulator-NFSim for FTL performance analysis in NAND flash. NFSim is used to measure performance of various FTL algorithms and FTL wear-level. NAND flash memory model and FTL algorithm developed using Windows Driver Model and class for scalability. There is no need for another tools because NFSim using graph tool for data measure of FTL performance.

  • The objective of this study is the frequency of the noise source 170 dB level of impulsive sound attenuation performance by earplugs to identify, to analyze the frequency characteristics of a shape and pattern. The attenuation performance of the impulsive noise by the frequency levels on the Combat Arm and 3M Form types 1100 Earplugs were evaluated. In order to check the sound attenuation performance of the B&K head and torso simulator and sound attenuation performance of the ear simulator data was verified. Previous studies have most impact, even in the noise source and the impulse noise level is 140 dB, but this study is higher than that of the impulsive noise source features. The results of the impulse noise attenuation effect is frequency-dependent mean 28.58 dB.

Development of a Simulator for RBF-Based Networks on Neuromorphic Chips (뉴로모픽 칩에서 운영되는 RBF 기반 네트워크 학습을 위한 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose a simulator that provides various algorithms of RBF networks on neuromorphic chips. To develop algorithms based on neuromorphic chips, the disadvantages of using simulators are that it is difficult to test various types of algorithms, although time is fast. This proposed simulator can simulate four times more types of network architecture than existing simulators, and it provides an additional a two-layer structure algorithm in particular, unlike RBF networks provided by existing simulators. This two-layer architecture algorithm is configured to be utilized for multiple input data and compared to the existing RBF for performance analysis and validation of utilization. The analysis showed that the two-layer structure algorithm was more accurate than the existing RBF networks.

Derivation of the Effective Energy Calculation Formula of the X-ray Beam Generated by the CT Simulator (CT 모의치료장치에서 발생된 X-선 빔의 유효에너지 계산식 유도)

  • The purpose of this study is to derive a formula for calculating the effective energy of an X-ray beam generated by a CT simulator. Under 90, 120, and 140 kVp X-ray beams, the CT number calibration insert part of the AAPM CT performance phantom was scanned 5 times with a CT simulator. The CT numbers of polyethylene, polystyrene, water, nylon, polycarbonate, and acrylic were measured for each CT slice image. The average value of CT number measured under a single tube voltage and the linear attenuation coefficients corresponding to each photon energy calculated from the data of the National Institute of Standards and Technology were linearly fitted. Among the obtained correlation coefficients, the photon energy having the maximum value was determined as the effective energy. In this way, the effective energy of the X-ray beam generated at each tube voltage was determined. By linearly fitting the determined effective energies(y) and tube voltages(x), y=0.33026x+30.80263 as an effective energy calculation formula was induced.

Development of Microscale RF Chip Inductors for Wireless Communication Systems (무선통신시스템을 위한 극소형 RF 칩 인덕터의 개발)

  • In this study, microscale, high-performance, solenoid-type RF chip inductors were investigated. The size of the RF chip inductors fabricated in this work was 1.0${\times}$0.5${\times}$0.5㎣. The materials (96% Al2O3) and shape (I-type) of the core were determined by a Maxwell three-dimensional field simulator to maximize the performance of the inductors. The copper (Cu) wire with 40${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter was used as the coils. High frequency characteristics of the inductance (L), quality-factor (Q), and capacitance (C) of developed inductors were measured using an RF Impedance/Material Analyzer (HP4291B with HP16193A test fixture). The inductors developed have inductances of 11 to 39 nH and quality factors of 28 to 50 over the frequency ranges of 250MHz to 1 GHz, and show results comparable to those measured for the inductors prepared by CoilCraf $t^{Tm}$ that is one of the best chip inductor company in the world. The simulated data predicted the high-frequency data of the L, Q, and C of the inductors developed well.l.

Prediction Based Dynamic Level of Detail in Flight Simulator (항공시뮬레이터에서 예측 기반의 동적 LOD 적용방안)

  • Fast rendering speed is one of key functions to provide realistic scenes in flight simulator. However, since flight simulator mostly operates with high volume terrain data, rendering speed is reduced and changed very rapidly when it handles file containing too much vertexs. So, previous schemes make use of Level of Details (LOD) scheme to prevent this problem. But, since LOD is applied after the large number of vertexs are detected, transition between scenes is not completely smooth. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a new dynamic LOD scheme which controls LOD level in advance through prediction of vertex overload. To verify the proposed scheme, we implement the proposed scheme in our flight simulation through OpenSceneGraph(OSG) and identify the reduced number of vertexs and enhanced Frame Per Second (FPS) by comparing real data with predicted one.
