  • The efficient and well organized database is essential for the management of information in every industrial field. In this study, a practical and effective database which can handle 3-D information of steel bridges is built on the basis of a STEP-based data model. The data model of steel bridge information is classified into geometric and non-geometric part and the design information is represented by linking geometric information and life cycle supported non-geometric information. Especially, the shape information is represented by boundary representation method, which is one of the representative methods of solid model information. In this study, ISO/STEP(STandard for the Exchange of product model data) AP203(configuration controlled design) EXPRESS schema is used to represent the shape information of steel bridge. The syntax of EXPRESS schema of developed data model is verified by NIST Expresso - is a tool for parsing and compiling EXPRESS schema. Also, this study verifies the conformance of the data model by applying to the real data of Hannam bridge. Therefore, the constructed database using STEP-based data model of steel bridges can be used effectively in the concurrent engineering point of view with transferring and sharing steel bridge information.

  • We have developed biological signal measurement modules and data acquisition and control card for a biological signal measurement, archiving, and communication system (SiMACS). Biological signals included in this system are ECG, EEG, EMG, invasive blood pressure, respiration, and temperature. Parameters of each module can be controlled by PC-base IDPU (intelligent data processing unit) through a data acquisition and control card. The data acquisition and control card can collect up to 16 channels of biological signals with sampling rate of $50\;{\sim}\;2,000Hz$ and 12-bit resolution. All measurement moduls and data acquisition functions are controlled by microcontroller which receives commands from PC. All data transfers among PC, microcontroller, and ADC are done through a shared RAM access by polling method for real rime operation.

  • In the medical fields, many efforts have been made to develop and improve Hospital Information System (HIS) including Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Order Communication System (OCS), and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). However, materials generated and used in medical fields have various types and forms. The current HISs separately store and manage them by different systems, even though they relate to each other and contain redundant data. These systems are not helpful particularly in emergency where medical experts cannot check all of clinical materials in the golden time. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a process to build an integrated data model for medical information currently stored in various HISs. The proposed data model integrates vast information by focusing on medical images since they are most important materials for the diagnosis and treatment. Moreover, the model is disease-specific to consider that medical information and clinical materials including images are different by diseases. Two case studies show the feasibility and the usefulness of our proposed data model by building models about two diseases, acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and ischemic stroke.

  • Comparing to general scanning data, the 3D digital map for large construction sites and complex buildings consists of millions of points. The large construction site needs to be scanned multiple times by drone photogrammetry or terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) survey. The scanned point cloud data are required to be registrated with high resolution and high point density. Unlike the registration of 2D data, the matrix of translation and rotation are used for registration of 3D point cloud data. Archiving high accuracy with 3D point cloud data is not easy due to 3D Cartesian coordinate system. Therefore, in this study, iterative closest point (ICP) registration method for improve accuracy of 3D digital map was employed by different overlap ratio on 3D digital maps. This study conducted the accuracy test using different overlap ratios of two digital maps from 10% to 100%. The results of the accuracy test presented the optimal overlap ratios for an ICP registration method on digital maps.

  • Sea surface height (SSH) around fe Korean Peninsula was investigated as a rising rate of $3.89mm\;yr^{-1}$ on the average from 1993 to 2005, which is 1.3 times higher rising rate, compared to the world ocean. In the present study, to investigate SSH changes in regional sections of the East Sea, the Yellow Sea, the South Sea, and the Korea Strait, DT-MSLA (Delayed Time-Maps of Sea Level Anomalies) with multi-satellite data (Topex/Poseidon, Jason-1, ERS, Envisat), provided by AVISO (Archiving, Validation and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic data), was used. The periodicity in interannual variability was dominant for $4\sim5$ year in summer, and 3 year in winter as well as an increasing trend. The amplitude and phase for the annual and semi-annual mode in SSH and SST were investigated with harmonic analysis. The geographical distribution of amplitudes for comparison of SSH and SST are slightly reverse in southwest-northeast tilted direction. The monthly SST and SSH is highly correlated correlation coefficient about 0.7 with lag of one or two months over the East Sea and the South Sea during June-August. These results suggest that the Kuroshio stream is dominant during summer over these regions.

  • This study was to find out the effect of cervical and thoracic stretching and strengthening exercise program on forward head posture. 32 adults had forward head posture were selected as the subjects for the study. The training program of the exercise group(n=16) consist of postural education with exercise program, subjects in the control group(n=16) participated in a postural education only. Postural measurements of Craniovertebral Angle(CVA) and Cranial Rotation Angle(CRA) were obtained from the using x-ray and PACS(Picture Archiving and Communications System) ${\pi}view^{TM}$. The results were compared with change of CVA and CRA exercise group were significant(p<.05) compared to the control group. However CRA of contol group was significant(P<.05). Also, there were no significant difference(p>.05) between groups on any pre-test measure. however there were significant difference(p<.05) between groups on CVA and CRA post-test measure. This study showed that cervical and thoracic stretching and strengthening exercise program can improve spinal posture alignment for decreasing forward head posture in subjects. These results can be fundamental data for further development of exercise program in interventions of postural improvement.

  • Electronic information, especially e-journals took their position as core resources in current scholarly communication. However, the publishing and pricing structure of e-journal licensing process have not yet succeeded to be reorganized in accord with newly changed electronic scholarly communication environment. That resulted in a lot of challenges scholarly communication now faced. This study aimed to analyze key issues regarding big deal, pricing, licensing, archiving, copyright and public access by conducting comprehensive literature review and examining movements of world wide scholarly institutes and alliances. And then this study eventually purposed to draw some strategies which domestic libraries and consortia should take in order to lead current changes in scholarly communication.

  • In this review article, we produce a technology tree in the earth observation by remote sensing, which is the Level I technology in the tree. To define Level II technologies, we create a two-dimensional matrix of technologies viewed from methodology and application viewpoints. Consequently the following fields are selected: reception-archiving, atmosphere, ocean, land, GIS, and common technology. For each Level II technology, we extract half a dozen Level III and about 20-30 Level IV technologies. For each Level IV technology, we review the status of domestic research and the approaches for acquiring deficient technology in Korea. Also we survey foreign institutions specializing in the deficient technologies and the time when the deficient technologies are needed. Furthermore we assign priority technologies from the viewpoints of public need and economic benefits. The information given in this article would help understand and collaborate among different disciplines, be a useful guide to a beginner to remote sensing, and assist policy making.

  • Satellite images from Earth-orbit satellites are widely utilized in both the public sector and commercial industry. To achieve a high-quality satellite image service, satellite operation focuses on accurately transmitting images and information of space to users. In particular, the delivery time from ground system to user is the core factor of the quality of a ground station service. Thus, much development is underway to specifically shorten the time required for distribution to users. In this paper, we introduce an interface design of a ground station to shorten the delivery time from order to distribution, related to the archiving order of satellite images.
