Recently irregular dark-colored patches were found on the Kentucky teeing ground in a golf course in Gyunggi providence. Interestingly, blue-green algae from the leaf tissue sample containing black spot-stained symptoms were largely observed through microscopic study. In general, algae present on the upper soil surface or in the upper layer of root zone form dark brown layers of scum or crust, which invoked harmful effects to turf growth such as poor drainage, inhibition of new root development. In this observation, unlike the algae were sometime found in senescing leaves on contacted soil in July and August, the blue-green algae were detected within black spot-stained Kentucky bluegrass leaf tissues including leaf blade, ligule, auriclea as well as leaf sheath. The blue-green algae were also detected on the leaf and stem tissue adjacent to the symptomatic leaf tissues. Two species of blue-green algae, Phomidium and Oscillatoria, were greatly observed. Oscillatoria species was more commonly notified in all samples. In addition, the two species were found on a putting green showing yellow spot disease at another golf course in Gyunggi providence. The data from chemical control assay revealed that chemicals such as propiconazole, iprodione, and azoxystrobin decreased blue-green algae population and leaf spots, which finally resulted in enhanced leaf quality. All taken together, we strongly suggested that the disease-like phenomenon by blue-green algae might be very closely mediated with infection/translocation process in relation with turfgrass. It indicates that blue-green algae in turf management may play an adverse role as a secondary barrier as well as a pathogenic agent. This report may be helpful for superintendents to recognize and understand the fact that algae control should be provided more cautiously and seriously than we did previously in upcoming golf course management.

The purpose of this study was to introduce the differential standard of the types of Angelicae Pubescentis Radix. We established the classificatory standard according to the external and internal morphology and the physicochemistrical pattern for the four types of Aucklandiae Radix. The results follow: 1. At the external shape, Angelica pubescens f. biserrata has rising lenticel and dark brown surface, Its section is light gray and its xylem is yellow gray. Aralia continentalis has big stem mark in upper portion, its section has no dense tissue with yellow gray. Heracleum hemsleyanum has dark brown surface and little lenticel, its cortical layer is white yellow and xylem is isabella and powdered. 2. At the internal shape, Angelica pubescens f. biserrata has phloem with half of the root and rare vessel. Aralia continentalis has phloem with two-thirds of the root and it has broad cutting and putting vessel that formed 1-2 row. Heracleum hemsleyanum also has phloem with half of the root and wide scattered latex tube and many large vessel. 3. At the TLC pattern, Heracleum hemsleyanum has remarkable dark spot at $R_{f}$ 0.23 on the sulphuric acid color pattern test, but others have faint. 4. At the HPLC pattern, all samples have generally patterns. But Angelica pubescens f. biserrata shows diminutive continentalic acid content and the peak at Rt 20.278min comes out on Heracleum hemsleyanum, but do not come out on Aralia continentalis and Angelica pubescens f. biserrata. Heracleum hemsleyanum has remarkable peak at Rt 20.278min, but shows no peak at Rt 29.023min unlike Aralia continentalis or Angelica pubescens f. biserrata. Also Aralia continentalis and Angelica pubescens f. biserrata show one remarkable peak at Rt 29.023, but Heracleum hemsleyanum do not show. Consequently, Aralia continentalis and Angelica pubescens f. biserrata are comparable whit continentalic acid content and Heracleum hemsleyanum is comparable with the peak at Rt 20.273 and Rt 29.023. So it is thought that content of continentalic acid and the peaks at Rt 20.278 and Rt 29.023 can apply to differentiate a species from other. It is considered the results of this study will be furnished the basis to succeeding studies and it is needed to extensive comparative study for the same genus-degree of relatedness.
Since 2003, anthracnose symptoms on Eucalyptus globulus were observed in farmer's field at Jisepo, Ilwoon-myon, Geoje city, Gyeongnam province, Korea. Typical symptoms of dark brown to black spot appeared on the leaves, twigs, and stems. Infected young trees were wilted, blighted and died eventually. The pathogen isolated from the typical symptom formed gray to dark gray colony on potato dextrose agar and showed optimum growth at $30^{\circ}C$. Conidia were single celled, colorless, cylindrical with obtuse ends, and $9{\sim}22{\times}3{\sim}6{\mu}m$ in size. Appressoria were dark brown, ovate to obovate, and $6{\sim}18{\times}4{\sim}10{\mu}m$ in size. Perithecia were black and globose in shape and $76{\times}274{\mu}m$ in size. Asci were clavate to cylindrical in shape and $42{\sim}76{\times}8{\sim}12{\mu}m$ in size. Ascospores were cylindrical, fusiform, slightly curved at the center, and $10{\sim}23{\times}4{\sim}6{\mu}m$ in size. On the basis of mycological characteristics and pathogenicity test on E. globulus, the pathogen was identified as Glomerella cingulata. This is the first report of the anthracnose on E, globulus caused by G. cingulata in Korea.

Metal filter elements were newly introduced to the high temperature filter(HTF) system in the low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste vitrification plant. In order to evaluate the performance of various metal materials as filter media, elements made of AISI 316L, AISI 904L, and Inconel 600 were included to the test set of filter elements. At the visual inspection to the elements performed after completion of each test, a few dark spots were observed on the surface of some elements. Especially they were found much more at the AISI 316L elements than others. To check the dark spots are the corrosion phenomena or not, two kinds of analyses were performed to the tested filter elements. Firstly, the surfaces or the cross sections of filter specimens cut out from both normal area and dark spot area of elements were analyzed by SEM/EDS. The results showed that the dark spots were not evidences of corrosion but the deposition of sodium, sulfur and silica compounds volatilized from waste or molten glass. Secondly, the ring tensile strength were analyzed for the ring-shape filter specimens cut out from each kind of element. The result obtained from the strength tested showed no evidence of corrosion as well. Conclusionally, depending on the two kinds of analysis, no evidences of corrosion were found at the tested metal filter elements. But the dark spots formed on the surface could reduce the effective filtering area and increase the overall pressure drop of HTF system. Thus, continuous heating inside filter housing up to dew point will be required normally. And a few long-period test should be followed for the exact evaluation of corrosion of the metal filter elements.
A gobiid fish, Parioglossus dotui Tomiyama is described from 359 specimens collected at Cheju-do and Pusan, in August 1994 of 1986. This is the first definitive record of the species in the Korean waters. Parioglossus dotui having a small-sized body usually is found swimming in schools. The branchiostegals are 5 in number on each side. It grows up to 40mm in total length. Most of ventral fins are separated and connected with rudimentray membrane. In this species, the lateral line were indistincet or absent. The caudal fin slightly emarginates or truncates in both sexes, with a dark spot at the border of the base. It Inhabits inlet waters and estuaries of rivers. "Deungsul mang-dug" is proposed as Korean name of this species.

Two unrecorded species of the snapper, Lutjanus malabaricus (296.0 mm standard length [SL]) and L. stellatus (350.0 mm SL) belonging to the family Lutjanidae, were first collected from the western coastal waters of Jeju Island, Korea. L. malabaricus is characterized by having a dark marking on the upper half of the caudal peduncle, a band of vomerine teeth that does not protrude posteriorly at the middle, and nine anal soft rays. Compared to its Korean relative, L. malabaricus is distinguishable by having rows of scales that run obliquely in the dorsal-posterior direction above the lateral line (vs. parallel to the lateral line in L. argentimaculatus). L. stellatus can be identified by the absence of wavy blue lines on the head (vs. many blue lines in L. rivulatus) and presence of a white spot above the lateral line (vs. a black blotch on the lateral line in L. rivulatus). We propose new Korean names, "Jin-hong-tung-dom" and "Huin-jeom-tung-dom," for L. malabaricus and L. stellatus, respectively.

Decayed samples of marketed mungbean sprout were collected from Sacheon, Suncheon, and Dangjin cities in Korea. Initial symptom on hypocotyls was dark-brown diamond speck, which developed into enlarged sunken brownish-black spot with irregular margin, followed by softening yellowish decay. Brown speck on cotyledon further developed into irregular lesions. This study isolated the fungus Colletotrichum sp. The fungal colony was pale orange, which turned greenish gray after 1 week at $25^{\circ}C$. Colony of reverse side in a petri dish was pink. Neither conidiomata nor setae were present in the culture. Typical fusiform conidia sized 7.5-15.0$\times$2.5-2.9 $\mu\textrm$were hyaline, aseptate, smooth, and had salmon color in mass. Conidiogenous cells were phialidic, hyaline, smooth, and cylindrical with terminal distinct collarette. Basedon these mycological characteristics, the casual organism was identified as Colletotrichum acutatum. This is first report of Colletotrichum acutatum in Korea.

In this study, the MgO thin-film passivation layer was adopted to protect passive matrix organic light emitting diode(PMOLED) with the cathode separator from moisture and oxygen. Using the substrate rotate and tilt technique during the deposition, the organic and cathode layers were perfectly covered with MgO. And then, we analyzed the difference of the current-voltage and luminescence characteristics between passivated OLED of the MgO and non-passivated OLED. It was found that the number of dark spot generated from the degradated pixel was decreased owing to the Mgo thin-film passivation layer using the tilt & rotate technique. And the half-life time passivated OLED was improved two times more. Thus, the MgO could be vaccum-deposited under the low temperature and had a merit that the organic layer was not much affected. We can consider that MgO thin film passivation method can be adopted to protect the OLED from moisture and oxygen and can offer the enhancement of lifetime.
In this study, a pyrene-core single molecule with amino (-NH2) functional group material was hybridized using ZnO quantum dots (QDs). The suppressed performance of the 1-aminopyrene (1-PyNH2) single molecule as an emissive layer (EML) in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) was exploited by adopting the ZnO@1-PyNH2 core-shell structure. Unlike pristine 1-PyNH2 molecules, the ZnO@1-PyNH2 hybrid QDs formed energy proximity levels that enabled charge transfer. This result can be interpreted as an improvement in surface roughness. The uniform and homogeneous EML alleviates dark-spot degradation. Moreover, LEDs with the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TFB/EML/TPBi/LiF/Al configuration were fabricated to evaluate the performance of two emissive materials, where pristine-1-PyNH2 molecules and ZnO@1-PyNH2 QDs were used as the EML materials to verify the improvement in electrical characteristics. The ZnO@1-PyNH2 LEDs exhibited blue luminescence at 443 nm (FWHM = 49 nm), with a turn-on voltage of 4 V, maximum luminance of 1500 cd/m2, maximum luminous efficiency of 0.66 cd/A, and power efficiency of 0.41 lm/W.
