We as modal parameter estimation technique by developing a residual based system reconstruction and using the system matrix coordinate transformation. The modal parameters can be estimated from and residues of the system transfer functions expressed in modal coordinate basis, derived from the state space system matrices. However, for modal parameter estimation of multivariable and order structural systems over broad frequency bands, this non-iterative algorithm gives high accuracy in the natural fre- and damping ratios. From vibration tests on cross-ply and angle-ply composite laminates, the natural frequencies and damping ratios on be estimated using tile coordinates of the structural system reconstructed fro the experimental frequency response. These results are compared with those of finite element analysis and single-degree-of-freedom curve-fitting.

In order to study the soil seasonal dynamic characteristics in the regions with four distinct seasons, the soil dynamic triaxial experiments were conducted by considering the environmental temperature range from -30℃ to 30℃. The results demonstrate that the dynamic soil properties in four seasons can change greatly. Firstly, the dynamic triaxial experiments were performed to obtain the dynamic stress-strain curve, elastic modulus, and damping ratio of soil, under different confining pressures and temperatures. Then, the experiments also obtain the dynamic cohesion and internal friction angle of the clay under the initial strain, and the changing rule was summarized. Finally, the results show that the dynamic elastic modulus and dynamic cohesion will increase significantly when the clay is frozen; as the temperature continues to decrease, this increasing trend will gradually slow down, and the dynamic damping ratio will go down when the freezing temperature decreases. In this paper, the change mechanism is objectively analyzed, which verifies the reliability of the conclusions obtained from the experiment.
Resonant column test huts been widely used as a primary laboratory testing technique in investigating dynamic soil properties expressed in therms of shear and Young's moduli and material damping. In thin Paper, dynamic Properties of typical Korean subgrade boils are investigated at shearing strains between 10-4% and 10-1% using Stokoe-type resonant column teat. The elastic threshold strains(yte) above which shear modulus and damping ratio are affected by strain amplitude, are defined at strain amplitude of about 10-3%. Below yte", small-strain shear modulus (Gmn) increases with confining pressure (Qc) as proportional to (Qe)0.61, and small-strain damping ratio(Dmin) ranges between 1% and 5.7%. Above yte, normalized shear modulus reduction curve(G/Gma. versus log strain) can be quite well expressed with Ramberg Osgood stress -strain equation and match well the curve suggested for sand by Seed and Idriss.riss.

The characteristics of friction noise due to the friction-velocity curve is experimentally investigated through the pin-on-disk setup. The rotation speed of the disk is controlled in order to produce the sliding speed variation. Then, the friction coefficient and the corresponding friction noise are simultaneously measured with respect to the sliding speed between the steel disk and aluminum pin. The experimental results show that the negative friction-velocity slope is essential in generating friction noise.
Nonlinear dynamic deformation characteristics, expressed in terms of normalized shear modulus reduction curve (G/$G_{max}-\log\gamma$, G/$G_{max}$ curve) and damping curve (D-$\log\gamma$), are important input parameters with shear wave velocity profile ($V_s$-profile) in the seismic analysis of (new or existing) fill dam. In this paper, the reasonable and economical methods to evaluate the nonlinear dynamic deformation characteristics for core zone and rockfill zone respectively are presented. For the core zone, 111 G/$G_{max}$ curves and 98 damping curves which meet the requirements of core material were compiled and representative curves and ranges were proposed for the three ranges of confining pressure (0~100 kPa, 100 kPa~200 kPa, more than 200 kPa). The reliability of the proposed curves for the core zone were verified by comparing with the resonant column test results of two kinds of core materials. For the rockfill zone, 135 G/$G_{max}$ curves and 65 damping curves were compiled from the test results of gravelly materials using large scale testing equipments. The representative curves and ranges for G/$G_{max}$ were proposed for the three ranges of confining pressure (0~50 kPa, 50 kPa~100 kPa, more than 100 kPa) and those for damping were proposed independently of confining pressure. The reliability of the proposed curves for the rockfill zone were verified by comparing with the large scale triaxial test results of rockfill materials in the B-dam which is being constructed.

Engineered mixtures composed of rigid sand particles and soft rubber particles are tested to investigate their behavior with strain level. Mixtures are prepared with different volumetric sand fractions (sf) to identify response using small strain resonant column, intermediate strain oedometer, and large strain direct shear tests. The small strain shear modulus and damping ratio are determined with volumetric sand fractions. The asymmetric frequency response curve increases with decreasing sand fraction. Linear responses of shear strain and damping ratio with shear strain are observed at the mixture of sf=0.2. Vertical strain increases with decreasing sand fraction. Mixtures with $04.{\leq}sf{\leq}0.6$ show the transitional stress-deformation behavior from rubber-like to sand-like behavior. The friction angle increases with the sand fraction and no apparent peak strength is observed in mixture without sf=1.0.

Spin dynamics has been investigated intensively in various kinds of fields. Most popular one is an initial permeability at high frequency. Also, magnetic after-effect such as thermal fluctuation of fine magnetic particles and disaccommodation in soft magnetic materials were extensively studied in the past. When we apply an external farce with the same frequency as that of the system being examined, the system absorbs the external energy and the precession enhances. It is called resonance in general. Among the various resonances, ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) has been used as a good tool to evaluate material constants such as saturation manetization or spin damping parameter by analyzing a resonance curve. In this talk first instinctive understanding of Gilbert spin damping and spin pumping will be explained. Then, experimental data for enhancement of Gilbert damping parameter (G) evaluated from FMR spectrum and spin precession measured by a time resolved pump-probe method for Permalloy thin film will be introduced. Finally, magnetization reversal observed by air-coplanar probe will be given.
The force-deformation behavior, strain distribution and failure modes of a variable damping self-centering brace (VD-SCB) are theoretically analyzed, experimentally studied, and numerically simulated to guide its design. The working principle of the brace is explained by describing the working stages and the key feature points of the hysteretic curve. A large-scale brace specimen was tested under different sinusoidal excitations to analyze the recentering capability and energy dissipation. Results demonstrate that the VD-SCB exhibits a full quasi-flag-shaped hysteretic response, high ultimate bearing capacity, low activation force and residual deformation, and excellent recentering and energy dissipation capabilities. Calculation equations of the strain distribution in different parts of the brace are proposed and are compared with the experimental data and simulated results. The developments of two failure modes are compared. Under normal circumstances, the brace fails due to the yielding of the spring blocking plates, which are easily replaced to restore the normal operating conditions of the brace. A brief description of the design procedure of the brace is proposed for application.
In this article, a novel structural modal parameters identification methodology is developed to determine the natural frequencies and damping ratios of civil structures based on the symplectic geometry mode decomposition (SGMD) approach. The SGMD approach is a new decomposition algorithm that can decompose the complex response signals with better decomposition performance and robustness. The novel method firstly decomposes the measured structural vibration response signals into individual mode components using the SGMD approach. The natural excitation technique (NExT) method is then used to obtain the free vibration response of each individual mode component. Finally, modal natural frequencies and damping ratios are identified using the direct interpolating (DI) method and a curve fitting function. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated based on numerical simulation and field measurement. The structural modal parameters are identified utilizing the simulated non-stationary responses of a frame structure and the field measured non-stationary responses of a supertall building during a typhoon. The results demonstrate that the developed method can identify the natural frequencies and damping ratios of civil structures efficiently and accurately.
