  • Digital load is increasing suddenly for various reasons, such as easy control and management. Accordingly, a consumption pattern of load is becoming DC. However, the power supply is supplied by AC power. The load power supply substantially needs DC power. AC power has to be converted to DC power. Renewable energy sources like solar, wind, fuel cells are DC power generation, but the transfer needs to through by AC power, thus DC power has to be converted to AC power. Resultantly, a multi-stage conversion loss is constantly increasing. The power distribution system of DC-based is required for effective use of these energy sources. This requires a DC load, as well as is necessary to develop DC ELCB which are able to detect DC leakage current for implementing protection. In this study, it realize detection algorithm about DC leakage current to verify the performance of the sensor and apply it to the ELCB which is based on DC. Therefore, it is expected to protect operating of DC power distribution system.

Diagnostic Techniques of Lightning Arresters for DC Electric Traction Vehicles (직류전동차용 피뢰기 진단기술)

  • This paper dealt with the performance evaluation and the diagnostic techniques of lightning arresters for DC electric traction vehicle. Field Measurements on the protective operation of lightning arresters against surge currents were carried out on running vehicles to acquire the data necessary for the diagnosis. The frequency and the magnitude of surge events were analyzed. Surge currents of $1\sim3$ times were recorded in one running service route and their magnitudes were ranges of $150A\sim2kA$. Also, an acceleration experiment on a lightning arrester by the standard lightning impulse current of 8/20 us and 5 kA was performed to know the aging characteristics. After the surge current application of 3,000 times, the reference voltage decreased by 4.5 %, and the leakage current was below 10 uA at the continuous operating voltage and about 50 uA at the rated voltage. From the experimental results, we propose a decision level of leakage current for the arrester used in this paper and designed an arrester tester which analyzes arrester condition by the magnitude of leakage current.

DC Accelerated Aging Characteristics of Praseodymium-Based ZnO Varistors Doped with $Dy_2O_3$ ($Dy_2O_3$가 첨가된 프라세오디뮴계 ZnO 바리스터의 DC 가속열화특성)

  • DC accelerating aging characteristics of praseodymium-based ZnO varistors doped with $Dy_2O_3$ were investigated with sintering time. The varistor sintered for 1h exhibited the highest nonlinearity, with a nonlinear exponent of 66.61 and a leakage current of $1.16{\mu}A$, whereas they did not exhibit relatively high stability. The varistor sintered for 2h having nonlinear exponent of 54.81 and leakage current of $2.52{\mu}A$ showed very excellent stability, which the variation rates of varistor voltage, nonlinear exponent, and leakage current are -1.19%, -4.00%, and +75.79% for 2h, under DC accelerated aging stress, such as ($0.85\;V_{1mA}/115^{\circ}C$/24h)+($0.90\;V_{1mA}/120^{\circ}C$/24h)+($0.95\;V_{1mA}/125^{\circ}C$/24h)+($0.95\;V_{1mA}/150^{\circ}C$/24h).

  • The degradation behaviour of ZPCCL-based varistor ceramics composed of 97.5 mol%ZnO-0.5 mol% $Pr_6O_{11}-1.0$ mol% $Cr_2O_3-0.5$ mol% $La_2O_3$ was investigated under various DC accelerated aging streses. The varistor ceramics sintered for 1 h exhibited excellent nonlinearity, in which the nonlinear exponent is 81.6 and the leakage current is $0.2{\mu}A$. It was found that this varistor ceramics possess high stability, in which the variation rates of varistor voltage, nonlinear exponent, and leakage current are -1.14%, -3.7%, and 85.0%, respectively, against DC accelerated aging stress. On the contrary, the varistor ceramics sintered for 2 h also exhibited high nonlinearity and stability, but they were bad characteristics, compared with the varistor ceramics sintered for 1 h.

  • Given their structural arrangement, photovoltaic (PV) modules exhibit parasitic capacitance, which creates a path for high-frequency current during zero-state switching of the converter in transformerless systems. This current has to be limited to ensure safety and electromagnetic compatibility. Many solutions that can minimize or completely avoid this phenomenon, are available. However, most of these solutions are patented because they rely on specific and often complex converter topologies. This study aims to solve this problem by introducing a solution based on a classic converter topology with an appropriate modulation technique and passive filtering. A 5.5 kW single-phase residential PV system that consists of DC-DC boost stage and DC-AC H-bridge converter is considered. Control schemes for both converter stages are presented. An overview of existing modulation techniques for H-bridge converter is provided, and a modification of hybrid modulation is proposed. A system prototype is built for the experimental verification. As shown in the study, with simple filtering and proper selection of switching states, achieving low leakage current level is possible while maintaining high converter efficiency and required energy quality.

  • An interleaved current-fed high step-up DC-DC converter is proposed. Besides high voltage gain, a low ripple input current is achieved by adopting interleaving operation. Moreover, soft-switching characteristic of the proposed converter reduces switching losses of active power switches and raise the conversion efficiency. The reverse-recovery problem of output rectifiers is also alleviated by controlling the current changing rates of diodes by utilizing the leakage inductances of transformers. Experimental results obtained on a 200W prototype are discussed.

A Study on Properties Leakage Current due to Voltage of Ethylene Propylene Rubber (에틸렌프로필렌 고무의 전압에 의한 누설전류 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the leakage current - voltage characteristic and leakage current - time characteristic for the undegradated Ethylene Propylene Rubber and the Ethylene Propylene Rubber which is degradated by water tree for 200 hours have been measured on the temperature range of $50{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ and applied DC voltage range of 200 V~800 V for 90 minutes. The results of this study are listed below. In case the temperature is $50^{\circ}C$, it founds that the leakage current have shown a increase in proportion to the applied voltage as 2 pA in 200 V, 6 pA in 400 V, 10 pA in 600 V and 15 pA in 800 V. It founds that the leakage current increased with the rise of temperature. It founds that the leakage current was consistent as time goes by, the leakage current of the sample degradated by water tree for 200 hours has increased more than undegradated sample.

Current Source ZCS PFM DC-DC Converter for Magnetron Power Supply

  • This paper presents the design of zero current switching ZCS pulse frequency modulation type DC-DC converter for magnetron power supply. A magnetron serving as the microwave source in a microwave oven is driven by a switch mode power supply (SMPS). SMPSs have the advantages of improved efficiency, reduced size and weight, regulation and the ability to operate directly from the converter DC bus. The demands of the load system and the design of the power supply required to produce constant power at 4[kV]. A magnetron power supply requires the ability to limit the load current under short circuit conditions. The current source series resonant converter is a circuit configuration which can achieve this. The main features of the proposed converter are an inherent protection against a short circuit at the output, a high voltage gain and zero current switching over a large range of output power. These characteristics make it a viable choice for the implementation of a high voltage magnetron power supply.

  • This paper preserts the characteristics of leakage currents flowing through 18 kV zinc oxide (ZnO) surge arrester under the mixed DC and AC voltages. The I-V curves of ZnO surge arrester were measured as a function of the voltage ratio K The I-V curves under the mixed DC and AC voltages lay between the pure DC and AC characteristics, and the cross-over phenomenon in I-V curves was observed at the low current region As a result, the increase of DC component to mixed voltages causes the increase of resistive component of total leakage current th ZnO surge arrester.

  • This paper presents the two combination methods for leakage current reduction in photovoltaic system PCS. The leakage current in the photovoltaic system generated from the parasitic capacitance existing between the photovoltaic system and ground relevance to common mode voltage caused by PWM switching. Firstly, Leakage current reduced by a PWM method using two carriers with 180-degree phase different. Secondly, the leakage current is more reduced by connecting LCL filter to the mid-point of DC link. This combining method is revealed in PSIM simulation with 1 uF parasitic capacitance.
