This paper deals with the harmonic reduction technique in square-wave inverters which can regenerate the dc power from dc bus line to ac bus line in substations for traction systems. To reduce the harmonics, two 6-pulse inverters are used for 12-pulse operation and zigzag-connected output transformers for eliminating the harmonics of 6(2m-1)$\pm$1 orders. And an ac filter is furnished at output side. In spite of the square-wave three-phase inverters, computer simulations show that the THDs of the output voltage and current are 2.55% and 0.554%, respectively.
The PWM(Pulse Width Modulated) converter for the AC to DC rectification has become attractive in the industrial variable-speed drive application and the electric utilities due to the following benefits: Nearly the sinusoidal input current with unity power factor; Controllable DC link voltage; Bidirectional power flow. This paper presents a quantitative analysis of single and three phase PWM converter's input and output characteristics as a function of the input filter inductance under balanced and unbalanced conditions. Also, its performance under the supply voltage including harmonics is investigated by simulation with Matlab Simlulink and experiments. These results provide a reference for selecting the reasonable converter's input filter inductance for given harmonics or power factor criterion.
This paper presents a new PFC control method which replaces a fast line current measurement with a filtered load current measurement. Using the power balance relation between the input and the output of the boost converter. the input current can be described as the function of load current. Thus the PWM signal which effects the switching control of the boost converter is generated using the PFC input voltage, the PFC output voltage and the load current as input variables. By using a filter between the bridge rectifier and a dc-to-dc converter, the input voltage of the dc-to-dc converter is forced to always maintain above zero volt. Then the input current traces a sinewave in phase. The proposed scheme accomplishes a very high power factor and a low harmonic distortion of the line current. The validity of this scheme is demonstrated through simulation.
We have proposed and experimentally verified a pulse-width modulation (PWM) generator which directly generated a PWM signal in the optical domain. Output waveforms were clear at the repetition rate of 16 MHz; the duty cycle (DC) was from 14.7% to 72.1%; and the DC-control resolution was about 4.399%/dB. The PWM generator' operation principle is based on the injection-locking property of a single-mode Fabry-$P{\acute{e}}rot$ laser diode (SMFP-LD). The SMFP-LD, which has a self-locked mode wavelength at ${\lambda}_{PWM}$, was used to detect the power of the injection-locking signal (optical analog input). If the analog input power is high, the SMFP-LD is locked to the wavelength of the input signal ${\lambda}_a$ and there is no output after an optical bandpass filter (OBF). If the analog input power is low, the SMFP-LD is unlocked and there is output signal at ${\lambda}_{PWM}$ after the OBF. Thus, the SMFP-LD plus the OBF provide digital output for an analog input. The DC of the output PWM signal can be controlled by tuning the power of the analog input.

A simulation study of a current-mode direct current (DC)-DC buck converter is presented in this paper. The converter, with a fully integrated power module, is implemented by using sense method metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) and bipolar complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (BiCMOS) technology. When the MOSFET is used in a current sensor, the sensed inductor current with an internal ramp signal can be used for feedback control. In addition, the BiCMOS technology is applied in the converter for an accurate current sensing and a low power consumption. The DC-DC converter is designed using the standard $0.35\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. An off-chip LC filter is designed with an inductance of 1 mH and a capacitance of 12.5 nF. The simulation results show that the error between the sensing signal and the inductor current can be controlled to be within 3%. The characteristics of the error amplification and output ripple are much improved, as compared to converters using conventional CMOS circuits.

The light-emitting diode (LED) has been used in a variety of industrial fields and for general 0lighting purposes on account of its high efficiency, low power consumption and long lifespan. The LED is driven by direct current; therefore, an AC/DC converter is typically required for its use. An electrolytic capacitor is generally used for stabilizing DC voltage during use of the AC/DC converter. However, this capacitor has a short lifespan, which makes it a limiting factor in LED lighting. Furthermore, LED lighting requires a dimmable control to enable energy savings and fulfil a growing consumer demand. In this paper, the dimmable single-stage power factor correction (PFC) continuous conduction mode (CCM) flyback converter that employs no electrolytic capacitor is presented. The LC resonant filter is alternatively applied to reduce the 120[Hz] ripple on the output. And the optimum value of the LC resonant filter parameters considering both efficient and performance is analysed. Simulation and experimental results verify the satisfactory operation of the converter.

The single-phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) drive requires DC source which is generally supplied through a rectifier connected with a commercial source. The rectifier is consist of a diode full bridge and a filter circuit. Usually the filter circuit uses capacitor with large value capacitance to reduce ripple component of DC power. Although the peak torque ripple of SRM is small, the short charge and discharge current of the filter capacitor draws the low power factor and system efficiency. A modified single phase SRM drive system is presented in this paper, which includes drive circuit realizing reduction of torque ripple and improvement of power factor. In the proposed drive circuit, one switching part and diode which can separate the output of AC/DC rectifier from the filter capacitor is added. Also, a upper switch of drive circuit is exchanged a diode in order to reduce power switching device. Therefore the number of power switch device is not changed, two diodes are only added in the SRM drive. To verify the proposed system, some simulation and experimental results are presented.

A hold-up time compensation circuit is proposed to get high efficiency of the front-end phase-shifted full bridge DC/DC converter. The proposed circuit can make the phase-shifted full bridge front-end DC/DC converter built with 0.5 duty ratio so that the conduction loss of the primary side and voltage stress across rectifier in the secondary side are reduced and the higher efficiency can be obtained. Furthermore, the requirement of an output filter significantly can diminish due to the perfect filtered waveform. A 12V/100A prototype has been made and experimental results are given to verify the theoretic analysis and detailed features.
A 6.5 V/50 kA high-frequency switching power supply (HSPS) system composed of 10 power modules is developed to meet the requirements of copper-foil electrolysis. The power module is composed of a two-leg pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier and a DC/DC converter. The DC/DC converter adopts two full-wave rectifiers in parallel to enhance the output. For the two-leg PWM rectifier, the ripple of the DC-link voltage is derived. A composite control method with a ripple filter is then proposed to effectively improve the performance of the rectifier. To meet the process demand of copper-foil electrolysis, the virtual impedance-based current-sharing control method with load current full feedforward is proposed for n-parallel DC/DC converters. The roles of load current feedforward and virtual impedance are analyzed, and the current-sharing control model of the HSPS system is derived. Virtual impedance is used to adjust the current-sharing impedance without changing the equivalent output impedance, which can effectively reduce current-sharing errors. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the structure and control method.

Wind energy conversion systems (WECS) which consist of wind turbines with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and full-power converters have become widespread in the field of renewable power systems. Generally, conventional diode bridge rectifiers have used to obtain a constant DC bus voltage from output of PMSG based wind generator. In recent years, together advanced power electronics technology, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifiers have used in WECS. PWM rectifiers are used in many applications thanks to their characteristics such as high power factor and low harmonic distortion. In general, L, LC and LCL-type filter configurations are used in these rectifiers. These filter configurations are not exactly compensate current and voltage harmonics. This study proposes a hybrid passive filter configuration for PWM rectifiers instead of existing filters. The performance of hybrid passive filter was tested via MATLAB/Simulink environment under various operational conditions and was compared with LCL filter structure. In addition, neuro-fuzzy controller (NFC) was preferred to increase the performance of PWM rectifier in DC bus voltage control against disturbances because of its robust and nonlinear structure. The study demonstrates that the hybrid passive filter configuration proposed in this study successfully compensates current and voltage harmonics, and improves total harmonic distortion and true power factor.
