  • The mathematical model of a three phase PWM converter under the stationary αβ reference frame is deduced and constructed based on a Proportional-Resonant (PR) regulator, which can replace trigonometric function calculation, Park transformation, real-time detection of a Phase Locked Loop and feed-forward decoupling with the proposed accurate calculation of the inductance voltage vector. To avoid the parallel resonance of the LCL topology, the active damping method of the proportional capacitor-current feedback is employed. As to current vector error elimination, an optimized PR controller of the inner current loop is proposed with the zero-pole matching (ZPM) and cancellation method to configure the regulator. The impacts on system's characteristics and stability margin caused by the PR controller and control parameter variations in the inner-current loop are analyzed, and the correlations among active damping feedback coefficient, sampling and transport delay, and system robustness have been established. An equivalent model of the inner current loop is studied via the pole-zero locus along with the pole placement method and frequency response characteristics. Then, the parameter values of the control system are chosen according to their decisive roles and performance indicators. Finally, simulation and experimental results obtained while adopting the proposed method illustrated its feasibility and effectiveness, and the inner current loop achieved zero static error tracking with a good dynamic response and steady-state performance.

  • The almost pole transformers are constructed with tank, cover, clamp etc., that contains the insulation oil, core, coil, terminals, bus and the other accessories. If some fault current will be flown by some trouble or accident, interior pressure of the transformer shall be very quickly rise, and mechanical components or insulation oil from the transformer enclosure shall be propelled or dropped from the tank. For the prevention of the above accident, recently the pole transformers should be done 'the Design Tests for Fault Current Capability' according to ANSI C57.12.20(1997) There are two tests method in this standard, Test Number I with a high current arcing fault, without internal fusible elements, shall be conducted on rack enclosure with its minimum designed air space. Test Number II with an internal fusible element, shall be conducted on each enclosure diameter utilizing the internal fusible elements. KEPCO recently request to be done the 'Design Tests for Fault Current Capability' for pole transformers according to KEPCO's standard ES141-$533{\sim}545$, PS141-$482{\sim}518$ and RS141-$611{\sim}628$ that is same with Test Number I of ANSI C57.12.20.

  • This paper presented an improved analytical method for calculating the open-circuit magnetic field in the surface-mounted permanent magnet machines accounting for slots and eccentric magnet pole. Magnetic field produced by radial and parallel permanent magnet is equivalent to that produced by surface current according to equivalent surface-current method of permanent magnet. The model is divided into two types of subdomains. The field solution of each subdomain is obtained by applying the interface and boundary conditions. The magnet field produced by equivalent surface current is superposed according to superposition principle of vector potential. The investigation shows harmonic contents of radial flux density can be reduced a lot by changing eccentric distance of eccentric magnet poles compared with conventional surface-mounted permanent-magnet machines with concentric magnet poles. The FE(finite element) results confirm the validity of the analytical results with the proposed model.

  • A digital state feedback control method for the current mode control of DC-DC converters is proposed in this paper. This approach can precisely achieve interleaved current sharing among the converter modules. As the controller design and system analysis are performed in the time domain, the proposed method can easily satisfy the required converter specification by using the pole placement technique. The digital state feedback controller in the continuous and discrete time domain is derived for the robust tracking control. For the verification of the proposed control scheme, a parallel module bi-directional converter in a prototype 42V/14V hybrid automotive power system, which is a design example in the continuous time domain, and a parallel module buck converter, which is a design example in the discrete time domain, are implemented using a TMS320F2812 digital signal processor (DSP).

  • In 3-phase 4 wire system, appearance of the $3^{rd}$ harmonic current by increasing non-liner load is the one of causes overheating neutral wire of power line, and apparatus. So it is necessary to protect power-factor decreasing by the $3^{rd}$ harmonic, and electric power apparatus, and line safely, in this study, power system accidents caused by the $3^{rd}$ harmonic were investigated, then harmonic components analysis and unbalanced load analysis got accomplished. As result, we proposed the method to protect the power line and apparatus from over-current of neutral line by using the most economic 4-pole low voltage circuit breaker.

  • The single phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) is more simpler and robust in the structure than poly phase SRM. It has the merits that it reduces the switching elements and the energy density per volume is very high. Recently, it has been researched and developed in various types and starting method due to the technique of power electronics and the computer added design. The single phase SRM is tried to apply to many industrial appliance field to substitutethe the induction motor by the single phase SRM. On the previous studies, we decided the design parameters of the single phase SRM for the blower driver to adapt the design method of the conventional machine and the poly phase SRM. In this studies, it is proposed the conditions to decide the optimal pole arcs because the stator and rotor pole arcs is very important in the characteristics of the single phase SRM. For this reason, it is analysed the characteristics of current on/off angle vs. pole arc, pole arcs vs. average torque.

  • The aim of this experiment is to establish the method that obtains symmetrically two nuggets in microresistance series spot welding. The sheets of austenite stainless steel STS304 applied to various electronic parts were experimented by the inverter welding power source of polarity controllable type and by the twin head for left and right electrode force to be controlled separately. The experimental results were obtained as follows : 1) When series spot welding was carried out by DC 1 pulse as welding current with same electrode force at left and right, the asymmetry of nuggets was resulted from the larger nugget of the (-) pole because of the Peltier effect. The dynamic resistance of weld spot at left and right was appeared differently according to the growth of nuggets. 2) When AC 1 cycle by welding power source of polarity controllable type was applied, the nuggets were almost symmetrically formed. 3) In a twin head, if the electrode force of (-) pole was larger than that of (+) pole, the diameters of two nuggets became to same. It was confirmed that the dynamic resistance of (-) pole was decreased to the same level as it of (+) pole. 4) Although the forces of left and right electrode were same, and only DC 1 pulse was applied, symmetric nuggets were obtained if the conductivity of (+) pole was lower than it of (-) pole.

  • This paper presents a high-speed axial-flux machine which utilizes the idea of sinusoidal shaped pole combined with a consequent iron-pole. The target of the proposed machine is the cost reduction of the relatively expensive Samarium-Cobalt (SmCo) permanent magnet (PM) material and the torque per PM volume improvement by using sinusoidal consequent-pole rotor. The effectiveness of the proposed machine is validated by comparing it with conventional consequent-pole and with conventional PM machines using 3-D finite element method (FEM) simulations. The comparison and analysis is done in terms of back electro-motive force (back-EMF) harmonic contents, torque per PM volume and torque ripple characteristics. The simulation results show that the proposed machine is suitable and cost-effective for high-speed and high torque per PM volume applications. Furthermore, due to the consequent pole, the magnetic flux saturation and the overload current torque-capability are also presented and discussed in the paper.

  • This paper proposes a test system for a valve and poles building blocks used for large scale inverters such as STATCOM, SSSC, UPFC and VSC HVDC. Power semiconductors in the valve are normally connected in series to withstand switching voltage much larger than the voltage rating of a single power semiconductor. Therefore, there is a need to verify if the dynamic voltage sharing during switching in a valve is satisfactory. In this paper, we propose a test system that provides the necessary test condition: voltage and current in the valve using resonant circuits. A test scheme for a single phase inverter consisting two poles is also proposed. The performance of the inverter pole has to be verified at the factory test, before the system is installed at the site to secure the reliability of the system. The proposed scheme makes it possible to confirm if the pole can withstand voltage and current switching condition and handle loss.
