It has been considered that malic acid, $\alpha$-hydroky succinic acid, could not form crosslinks in the cellulosic materials unless activated by other polycarboxylic acids such as butanetetracarboxylic acid or citric acid because there are only two carboxylic acids per molecule available fur the formation of one anhydride intermediate. However we found that the dicarboxylic malic acid with sodium hypophosphite catalyst without the addition of other crosslinkers was able to improve wrinkle resistance of cotton up to $294^{\circ}$(dry WRA) and $285^{\circ}$ (wet WRA), which is a measure of crosslinking level in cotton. $^1$H FT-NMR, FT-IR and GPC analysis indicated the in-situ formation of an trimeric $\alpha$, $\beta$-rnalic acid with a composition of 1:3 through the esterification between hydroxyl group and one of carboxylic groups in malic acid during curing. The crosslinking of cotton was attributed to the trimeric $\alpha$, $\beta$-malic acid, a tetracarboxylic acid, which can form two anhydride rings during curing. The influence of crosslinking conditions such as concentrations of malic acid and catalyst, pH of the formulation bath, and curing temperature were investigated in terms of imparted wrinkle resistance and whiteness. The addition of reactive polyurethane resin in the formulation slightly increased the mechanical strength retention of crosslinked fabric coupled with additional increase in wrinkle resistance.

This paper presents the feasibility of using electromechanical impedance based active sensing technique for nondestructive strength gain monitoring of early-age concrete by employing piezoelectric lead-zirconate-titanate (PZT) patches on concrete surface. The strength development of early age concrete is actively monitored by performing a series of experiments on concrete specimens under moist curing condition. The electrical admittance signatures are acquired for five different curing ages and compared with each other. The resonant frequency shifts of PZT patches with increasing days is observed which is on account of additional stiffening due to strength gain of concrete during curing and level of stiffening being related to strength obtained from compression tests on companion cylinder specimens. The proposed approach is found to be suitable for monitoring the development of compressive strength in early-age concrete. It is also observed in this study that root mean square deviation (RMSD) in admittance signatures of the PZT patches can also be used as an indicator of concrete strength development.

As the performance and density of IC (integrated circuit) devices increase, power and signal integrities in the global interconnects of advanced packaging technologies are becoming more difficult. Thus, the global interconnect technologies should be designed to accommodate increased input/output (I/O) counts, improved power grid network integrity, reduced RC delay, and improved electrical crosstalk stability. This requirement resulted in the fine-pitch interconnects with a low-k dielectric in 3D packaging or wafer level packaging structure. This paper reviews an organic-inorganic hybrid material as a potential dielectric candidate for the global interconnects. An organic-inorganic hybrid material called polysiloxane can provide spin process without high temperature curing, an excellent dielectric constant, and good mechanical properties.

The purpose of this study is to compare efficiency of broad spectrum LEDs ($VALO^{(R)}$, Ultradent, USA) with conventional LED curing lights ($Elipar^{TM}$ Freelight 2, 3M ESPE, USA) using a microhardness test. The light curing units used were $VALO^{(R)}$ in three different modes and $Elipar^{TM}$ Freelight 2. The exposure time was used according to the manufacturer's instructions. After cured resin specimens were stored in physiological saline at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours, microhardness was measured using Vickers microhardness tester. The microhardness of upper and lower sides of the specimens were analyzed separately by the ANOVA method (Analysis of Variance) with a significance level set at 5%. At upper side of resin specimens, an increased microhardness was observed in the broad spectrum LED curing light unit with a high power mode for 4 seconds and plasma emulation mode for 20 seconds (p < 0.05). However, at the lower side of resin specimens, there were no significant differences in microhardness between broad spectrum LED curing light unit and conventional LED curing light unit.

Recently, lots of researches on concrete with high volume mineral admixture such as ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) have been carried out to reduce $CO_2$. It is known that the precast concrete has an advantage of high strength at early age due to steam curing, even if concrete has high replacement level of mineral admixture. However it demands the investigation of compressive strength properties according to steam curing regimens. In this study, concretes with water-binder ratio of 32, 35% and water content of 135, 150, $165kg/m^3$ were produced to investigate compressive strength properties of high volume (60% by mass) GGBFS cement concrete according to steam curing regimens. Then steam curing was implemented with the maximum temperature of 50, $60^{\circ}C$ and steaming time of 5, 6, 7 hours. From the test results, it was found that steam curing was effective to raise early strength of high volume GGBFS cement concrete, but 28 day compressive strengths of steam cured specimens were lower than those of water cured specimens. Thus, a further study would be needed for the optimum steam curing regimens to satisfy target demolded strength and specified strength for the application of high volume GGBFS cement concrete to precast concrete members.

Currently, the quality standards for recycled aggregates in Korea are very high, at almost the same level as natural aggregates, so recycled aggregates cannot be widely used for concrete. In particular, it is necessary to evaluate how the moisture conditions and curing conditions of recycled aggregates with high absorption rates and wearing rates affect the compressive strength of concrete. Therefore, in this study, we wanted to investigate the effects on compressive strength through experiments using the moisture conditions and curing conditions of recycled coarse aggregate as variables, and compare the compressive strength characteristics of natural coarse aggregate concrete. As a result of this experimental study, the effect of compressive strength on concrete using recycled coarse aggregates according to curing conditions was similar to that of natural aggregate concrete, and the compressive strength showed a low strength of about 13 to 17 %. The effect of the moisture conditions of recycled coarse aggregates was that in the case of wet curing, concrete using wet aggregate showed slightly higher compressive strength than concrete using dry aggregate, but in the case of air curing, on the contrary, dry recycled aggregate concrete was relatively higher than wet aggregate concrete.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate quality characteristics of cured pork loin with natural nitrite source from Swiss chard. Methods: Pork loin was cured in brine and the ratio of water and fermented Swiss chard (FSC) solution in the brine was changed by 4:0 (control), 3:1 (T1), 1:1 (T2), 1:3 (T3), 0:4 (T4), and pickled samples with 0.012% sodium nitrite (PC, positive control) and nitrite free brine (NC, negative control) were considered as the control. Results: The pH values of cured pork loins with FSC were decreased with increasing addition level of FSC. Cooking loss was not significantly different among all treatments. T4 had the lowest value in moisture content and lightness value and the highest value in curing efficiency. The redness value of T4 was not significantly different from that of PC in raw. After cooking, however, it was higher than that of PC. The yellowness value of cured pork loin added with FSC was increased with increasing level of FSC. Volatile basic nitrogen content of cured pork loin added with FSC was higher than PC and NC. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance value of cured pork loin added with FSC was decreased with increasing FSC level. Residual nitrite level and shear force were increased with increasing FSC level. In the sensory evaluation, sensory score for flavor, off-flavor, chewiness, juiciness, and overall acceptability were not significantly different among all treatments. However, sensory score for color was increased when the concentration of FSC added to pork loin was increased. Conclusion: The FSC solution had a positive effect on redness and lipid oxidation. As shown by the results in protein deterioration and sensory, Swiss chard can replace sodium nitrite as natural curing agent.

Dielectric polymer films produced from benzocyclobutene (BCB) formulations (CYCLOTENE* family resins) are known to possess many desirable properties for microelectronic applications; for example, low dielectric constant and dissipation factor, low moisture absorption, rapid curing on hot plate without reaction by-products, minimum shrinkage in curing process, and no Cu migration issues. Recently, BCB-based products for thick film applications have been developed, which exhibited excellent dissipation factor and dielectric constant well into the GHz range, 0.002 and 2.50, respectively. Derived from these properties, the applications are developed in: bumping/wafer level packaging, Ga/As chip ILD, optical waveguide, flat panel display, and lately in BCB-coated Cu foil for build-up board. In this paper, we review the relevant properties of BCB, then the application areas in bumping/wafer level packaging and BCB-coated Cu foil for build-up board.

Generally, the tire curing process is the process in which the sulfur is added and subsequently the tire is heated to give the tire elasticity. In this process, all kinds of the chemicals in the tire are emitted with a lot of heat. The chemical fume and heat aggravate the work environment. To solve this problem, 92 local exhaust ventilators and 8 gravity ventilators were used, but not satisfactory yet. Preliminary survey showed that the temperatures in the process were very high: 30.3, 32.9 and $37.2^{\circ}C$ at 2, 4 and 6m above the ground level, respectively in the winter (outside temperature was $2^{\circ}C$). It can be imagined that the process is severely hot in the summer time. The higher temperature distribution in the higher space tells us that the hot plume could not be removed with the existing ventilation systems. Therefore, in this study, some alternative ventilation systems were designed. The partitions were used to contain the hot plume to increase the capture efficiency. The gravity ventilators were newly designed to improve the extraction efficiency of hot fume. To satisfy the balance of pressure in the curing process, some supply air system was introduced by renewing the existing air conditioning system. Many alternative solutions were evaluated by using computational fluid dynamics modelling. The best and applicable solution was selected and the existing ventilation system was modified. After implementing the new ventilation system, the hot environment was much improved. The temperature reduction in the curing process was about $6.4^{\circ}C$.
