  • The object of this study is to define the characteristics of high performance concrete with varing compressive strength of concrete and curing temperature. The major test variables are 1) high strength concrete(500kg/$cm^2$) and ordinary strength concrete(240kg/$cm^2$) compressive strength, 2) curing temperature and condition, 3) concrete curing age, 4) three types of cement. From the test results were shown that curing temperature and curing conditions were also very effective for high strength concrete and ordinary strength concrete, and concrete were largely effected by cement type and temperature during the hydration reaction process. This paper describes the effect of curing temperature for strength and characteristics of high performance concrete.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties of precast concrete cured by accelerated curing methods such as, steam curing method and warm water curing method varing maximum temperature of curing along to the period of curing. Some specimens are cured by accelerated curing method(warm water curing method) and then deposited in the storehouse. The others are deposited in the storehouse directly. All of these are cured until being tested to compare these two group's mechanical characteristics for each period 3days, 7days, 28days. The goal of this comparison is to estimate the efficiency of accelerated curing method in the case of precast concrete stocked in the field or warehouse for a long term and to make guide line for factory manager to make a economical products of concrete of a good quality. We can conclude some guide lines 1) It is not efficient to cure concrete with accelerated method at higher than 80℃. 2) The continuing of curing period more than 36hr makes damage to concrete in using accelerated curing method. 3) The strength revelation of concrete cured by accelerated curing methods, added rice husk ash more delayed than OPC concrete done but the strength of maximum value is higher than OPC concrete. 4) It is not efficient to use accelerated curing method in the case of storing the products for more than 7days in the aspect of mechanical properties.

  • PURPOSES : This study investigates the effect on concrete pavement accordance with the curing methods in cool weather and supports the best method in the field. METHODS : Two field tests evaluated the curing methods of concrete pavement in cool weather. Firstly, five curing methods were tested, including normal curing compound, black curing compound, bubble sheet, curing mat, and curing mat covered with vinyl. Concrete maturity was compared from temperature data. Secondly, normal curing compound and curing mat with vinyl, which showed the best performance, were compared in terms of maturity and join condition index. RESULTS:From the field tests, it is an evident that curing mat with vinyl accelerated the concrete strength. Therefore, it is possible to conduct saw-cut works in cool weather, which minimizes damage on concrete at joint. CONCLUSIONS : For concrete pavement in cool weather, using curing mat with vinyl as the curing method could overcome the strength delay. Therefore, strength and durability problems on concrete at joint due to cool weather would be fewer in the future.

  • Silica fume is a common addition to high performance concrete mix designs. The use of silica fume in concrete leads to increased water demand. For this reason, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) allows only a 72-hour continuous moist cure process for concrete containing silica fume. Accelerated curing has been shown to be effective in producing high-performance characteristics at early ages in silica-fume concrete. However, the heat greatly increases the moisture loss from exposed surfaces, which may cause shrinkage problems. An experimental study was undertaken to determine the feasibility of steam curing of FDOT concrete with silica fume in order to reduce precast turnaround time. Various steam curing durations were utilized with full-scale precast prestressed pile specimens. The concrete compressive strength and shrinkage were determined for various durations of steam curing. Results indicate that steam cured silica fume concrete met all FDOT requirements for the 12, 18 and 24 hours of curing periods. No shrinkage cracking was observed in any samples up to one year age. It was recommended that FDOT allow the 12 hour steam curing for concrete with silica fume.

  • In order to assure the quality of concrete structure in construction process, the odor strength measured by using odor sensor was used to evaluate curing effect. Then, the compressive strength and odor strength in ordinary concrete N were shown in water curing(=standard curing), indoor and outdoor atmospheric curing condition. The difference between odor strength in the standard curing and that in each curing condition was defined as the difference in the odor strength. And the difference in odor strength in slag powder concrete BP cured in water curing(=standard curing) for different period before exposing in outdoor atmosphere in winter season were evaluated at the age of 14 days. A necessity to prolong the moisture curing for the slag powder concrete BP compared with the ordinary concrete N to obtain a required curing effect was shown by measuring the odor strength and long term compressive strength.

  • Extrusion molding concrete panel is cured two times, that is the steam curing at atmospheric pressure and a high-pressure steam curing(autoclaving). Steam curing at atmospheric pressure is done before autoclaving and to acquire the proper strength for treat in process. Though this curing is the important factor on the quality of product and the speed in manufacturing process, it was not evaluated properly so far. Because of ignorance about curing, some engineers even think that the dry curing is better than the steam curing. This study is to investigate the properties of specimen according to variation of curing conditions in the coring chamber such as laboratory scale, pilot plant, and commercial plant. As estimating, in case of steam curing at atmospheric pressure to make extrusion molding concrete panel, moisture curing is better than dry curing and the desirable maximum temperature in curing chamber is about $50^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polyacrylamide (PAM) have been used as self-curing agents to produce self-curing concrete (SC). Compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), bulk electrical resistivity, chloride ion penetrability, water permeability, and main microstructural characteristics were examined under different curing regimes, and compared to those of the control concrete mixture with no self-curing agents. One batch of a control mixture and one batch of a SC mixture were air-cured in the lab to act as non-water-cured samples. The water curing regimes for the control mixture included continuous water curing for 3, 7, and 28 days and periodical moist curing using wetted burlap for 3 and 7 days. Curing regimes for the SC mixtures included 3 days of water curing and periodical moist curing for 3 and 7 days. SC mixtures showed better microstructure development and durability performance than those of the air-cured control mixture. A short water curing period of 3 days significantly improved the performance of the SC mixtures similar to that of the control mixture that was water cured for 28 days. SC concrete represents a step towards sustainable construction due to its lower water demand needed for curing and hence can preserve the limited water resources in many parts of the world.

  • The strength development of Flyash concrete containing various amount of Flyash (0, 10, 30, 50%) using as a cement replacement material was investigated two types of curing conditions, namely water curing at $21^{\cire}C$ and steam curing at $25^{\cire}C$ were adopted for this work, in water curing the strength development of Flyash concrete was always inferior to that of OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) concrete at early ages, although the differences were dependant up percentage of Flyash. The strength of Flyash concrete based on equivalent strength development at 28 days was also tested and the results exhibited that the strength was improved at early days, specially, the concrete containing 30% of Flyash, in steam curing for the same mix(270kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) the strength of Flyash concrete similar to that of OPC concrete, in other words. Flyash was strongly influenced by curing temperature in the strength development.

  • Moist curing of concrete is a time consuming procedure. It takes minimum 28 days of curing to obtain the characteristic strength of concrete. However, under certain situations such as shortage of time, weather conditions, on the spot changes in project and speedy construction, waiting for entire curing period becomes unaffordable. This situation demands early strength of concrete which can be met using accelerated curing methods. It becomes necessary to obtain early strength of concrete rather than waiting for entire period of curing which proves to be uneconomical. In India, accelerated curing methods are used to arrive upon the actual strength by resorting to the equations suggested by Bureau of Indian Standards' (BIS). However, it has been observed that the results obtained using above equations are exaggerated. In the present experimental investigations, the results of the accelerated compressive strength of the concrete are used to develop the regression models for predicting the short term and long term compressive strength of concrete. The proposed regression models show better agreement with the actual compressive strength than the existing model suggested by BIS specification.
