Behavior of Hydroxide Ions at the Water-Ice Surface by Low Energy Sputtering Method

  • The behavior of hydroxide ions on water-ice films was studied by using $Cs^+$ reactive ion scattering (RIS), low energy sputtering (LES) and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD). A $Cs^+$ beam of a low kinetic energy (<100 eV) from $Cs^+$ ion gun was scattered at the film surface, and then $Cs^+$ projectiles pick up the neutral molecules on the surface as $Cs^+$-molecule clusters form (RIS process). In LES process, the preexisting ions on the surface are desorbed by the $Cs^+$ beam impact. The water-ice films made of a thick (>50 BL) $H_2$O layer and a thin $D_2O$ overlayer were controlled in temperatures 90~140K. We prepared hydroxide ions by using Na atoms which proceeded hydrolysis reaction either on the ice film surface or at the interface of the $H_2O$ and $D_2O$ layers.[1] The migration of hydroxide ions from the $H_2O/D_2O$ interface to the top of the film was examined as afunction of time. From this experiment, we show that hydroxide ions tend to reside at the water-ice surface. We also investigated the H/D exchange reactions of $H_2O$ and $D_2O$ molecules mediated by hydroxide ions to reveal the mechanism of migration of hydroxide to the ice surface.

Effect of Heat and Moisture on the Phase Transition in Dimethylammonium-Facilitated CsPbI3 Perovskite (다이메틸암모늄 유도 CsPbI3 페로브스카이트 상의 상전이 거동에 대한 열과 수분의 영향)

  • Cesium lead iodide (CsPbI3) with a bandgap of ~1.7 eV is an attractive material for use as a wide-gap perovskite in tandem perovskite solar cells due to its single halide component, which is capable of inhibiting halide segregation. However, phase transition into a photo inactive δ-CsPbI3 at room temperature significantly hinders performance and stability. Thus, maintaining the photo-active phase is a key challenge because it determines the reliability of the tandem device. The dimethylammonium (DMA)-facilitated CsPbI3, widely used to fabricate CsPbI3, exhibits different phase transition behaviors than pure CsPbI3. Here, we experimentally investigated the phase behavior of DMA-facilitated CsPbI3 when exposed to external factors, such as heat and moisture. In DMA-facilitated CsPbI3 films, the phase transition involving degradation was observed to begin at a temperature of 150 ℃ and a relative humidity of 65 %, which is presumed to be related to the sublimation of DMA. Forming a closed system to inhibit the sublimation of DMA significantly improved the phase transition under the same conditions. These results indicate that management of DMA is a crucial factor in maintaining the photo-active phase and implies that when employing DMA designs are necessary to ensure phase stability in DMA-facilitated CsPbI3 devices.

Construction of RHEED Apparatus and Study on K, Cs/Si)(111) System (RHEED 장치의 제작과 K, Cs/Si(111)계에 관한 연구)

  • RHEED apparatus which is one of the systems of surface structure analysis has been constructed.Electron beam is focused by means of magnetic lens, and the beam divergence is about $1{\times}10^{-3}$ rad. The Acceleration voltage of this RHEED apparatus is continuously variable from 0 to 20 kV. K and Cs-adsorbed structureson Si(111)$7{\times}7$ surface at room and high temperatures($200{\times}700^{\circ}C$) have been investigated by RHEED. It is observed that the K and Cs-adsorbed Si(111)surface structures at saturation coverage are Si(111)$7{\tiems}7-K$ and Si(111)$1{\tiems}1-Cs$ at room temperature, respectively. When the specimen temperature was elevated during evaporation,the $3{\times}1$ structure appears in the range of temperature between $300^{\circ}C$ and $550^{\circ}C$, and the $1{\tiems}1$ structure appears above $550^{\circ}C$ in K/Si(111)system. Also, in Cs/Si(111) system the $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}$ structure appears at $300^{\circ}C$, and the $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}+3{\times}1$ structure appears between $350^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$.

Thermoluminescence Properties of Elpasolite Scintillation Single Crystal (엘파소라이트 섬광형 단결정의 열형광 특성)

  • In this paper, we determined the scintillation and thermoluminescence properties of $Cs_2NaCeBr_6$ elpasolite scintillation crystal. The emission spectrum of $Cs_2NaCeBr_6$ is located in the range of 300 ~ 450 nm, peaking at 377 nm and 400 nm. And, the fluorescence decay time of the crystal is composed two components. The fast component is 140 ns (94%), and the slow component is 880 ns (6%) of the crystal. The after-glow is caused by the electron and hole traps in the crystal lattices. We determined thermoluminescence parameters of the traps in the crystal. The determined activation energy(E), kinetic order and frequency factor of the traps are 0.67 eV, 1.71 and $2.51{\times}10^8s^{-1}$ respectively. In this crystal, re-combination rate is more dominant phenomenon than the re-trapping rate.

Inhibitory Effect of Chitosan and Phosphate Cross-linked Chitosan against Cucumber Mosaic Virus and Pepper Mild Mottle Virus

  • Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) causes severe economic loss in crop productivity of both agriculture and horticulture crops in Korea. The previous surveys showed that naturally available biopolymer material - chitosan (CS), which is from shrimp cells, reduced CMV accumulation on pepper. To improve the antiviral activity of CS, it was synthesized to form phosphate cross-linked chitosan (PCS) and compared with the original CS. Initially, the activity of CS and PCS (0.01%, 0.05%, and 0.1% concentration) compound against PMMoV infection and replication was tested using a half-leaf assay on Nicotiana glutinosa leaves. The total number of local lesions represented on a leaf of N. glutinosa were counted and analyzed with phosphate buffer treated leaves as a negative control. The leaves treated with a 0.1% concentration of CS or PCS compounds exhibited an inhibition effect by 40-75% compared with the control leaves. The same treatment significantly reduced about 40% CMV accumulation measured by double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and increased the relative expression levels of the NPR1, PR-1, cysteine protease inhibitor gene, LOX, PAL, SRC2, CRF3 and ERF4 genes analyzed by quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, in chili pepper plants.

The effects of different metal posts, cements, and exposure parameters on cone-beam computed tomography artifacts

  • Purpose: This study assessed the intensity of artifacts produced by 2 metal posts, 2 cements, and different exposure parameters using 2 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) units. Materials and Methods: The sample was composed of 20 single-rooted premolars, divided into 4 groups: Ni-Cr/zinc phosphate, Ni-Cr/resin cement, Ag-Pd/zinc phosphate, and Ag-Pd/resin cement. Samples were scanned before and after post insertion and cementation using a CS9000 3D scanner with 4 exposure parameters (85/90 kV and 6.3/10 mA) and an i-CAT scanner with 120 kV and 5 mA. The presence of artifacts was assessed subjectively by 2 observers and objectively by a trained observer using ImageJ software. The Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon, weighted kappa, and chi-square tests were used to assess data at a 95% confidence level(α<0.05). Results: In the subjective analyses, AgPd presented more hypodense and hyperdense lines than NiCr (P<0.05), and more hypodense halos were found using i-CAT (P<0.05) than using CS9000 3D. More hypodense halos, hypodense lines, and hyperdense lines were observed at 10 mA than at 6.3 mA (P<0.05). More hypodense halos were observed at 85 kV than at 90 kV (P<0.05). CS9000 3D presented more hypodense and hyperdense lines than i-CAT (P<0.05). In the objective analyses, AgPd presented higher percentages of hyperdense and hypodense artifacts than NiCr (P<0.05). Zinc phosphate cement presented higher hyperdense artifact percentages on CS9000 3D scans(P<0.05). CS9000 3D presented higher artifact percentages than i-CAT(P<0.05). Conclusion: High-atomic-number alloys, higher tube current, and lower tube voltage may increase the artifacts present in CBCT images.

Three Crystal Structures of Dehydrated $Ag_{12-x}Na_x-A$ (x: 4, 6, and 8) Treated With Cesium Vapor (탈수한 $Ag_{12-x}Na_x-A$(x :4, 6, 및 8)를 세슘 증기로 처리한 세가지 결정구조)

  • Ag+ 이온이 부분적으로 치환된 3가지 제올라이트 A(Ag4Na8-A, Ag6Na6-A 및 Ag8Na4-A)를 완전히 탈수한 후 280℃에서 24시간동안 약 0.1 Torr의 Cs중기로 처리하 였다. 이들의 결정구조는 22(1)℃ 노에서 입방공간군 Pm3m (단위세포상수 a가 각각 12.321(3) A, 12.295(1) A 및 12.380(7) A임)을 사용하여 단결정 X-선회절법으로 해석 하였다. 이들 세가지 구조에서 Cs+이온은 각각 서로 다른 4개의 결정학적 위치에서 발견되었다. 단위세포당 3개의 Cs+이온은 8-링 중심에 위치하고, 약 6.9-7.3개의 Cs+이온 은 큰 동공의 6-링과 마주보는 위치에 있는 3회 회전축상에서 발견되었다. 그리고 약 2.17-2.74개의 Cs+이온은 소다 라이트 동공내에서 발견되며 약 0.5-1.0개의 Cs+'이온은 4링과 마주보는 곳에 위치한다. 또한 이들 구조에서 단위세포당 각각 1.88(5),2.30(3) 및 5.28(10)개의 Ag종이 존재하며 이들은 큰동공의 중심에서 헥사실버 클러스트를 형성한다. 8-링위치가 Cs+이온으로 모두 차있어서 Ag0가 골조밖으로 이동하는 것을 막을 수 있다. 각각의 헥사실버 클러스터는 서로 다른 좌표에 위치하는 14개의 Cs+이온에 의해 안정화된다. 이들 구조에서 발견되는 약 12.35-13.49개의 Cs+이온들은 Cso의 흡착이 일어나 제올라이트 기본 골 격에 있는 음이온 전하와 균형을 맞출 수 있는 12개의 Cs+ 이온 이상의 이온 또는 원자로 존재하고 있다. Cs+의 배열 은 다음과 같은 두 가지 배열로 쉽게 설명할 수 있다. 일부는 2개의 Cs+이온이 소다이트 동공내에 있는 6-링과 마주보는 곳에 위치하고 큰동공내에는 6개의 Cs+이온이 6링 근처에 위치하며 1개는 4-링 근처에 위치한다. 그 나머지는 소다라이트 동공내에 위치하는 3개의 Cs+이온과 한변의 길이를 3.52 A로 갖는 삼각형을 형성한 후 6-링을 통 하여 큰 동공 내에 위치한 3개의 Cs원자와 결합하게 되므로 3m (C3v)의 대칭구조를 갖는 (CS6)4+클러스터를 형성한다. 그 밖의 5개 Cs+이온은 비어있는 큰동공의 6-링에 위치한다.

Effects of Powder Shape and Densification Mechanism on the Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Ti-6Al-4V Components (타이타늄 합금 분말 형상 및 치밀화 기구에 따른 미세조직 및 기계적 물성 영향 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of powder shape and densification mechanism on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V components. BE powders are uniaxially and isostatically pressed, and PA ones are injection molded because of their high strengths. The isostatically compacted samples exhibit a density of 80%, which is higher than those of other samples, because hydrostatic compression can lead to higher strain hardening. Owing to the higher green density, the density of BE-CS (97%) is found to be as high as that of other samples (BE-DS (95%) and P-S (94%)). Furthermore, we have found that BE powders can be consolidated by sintering densification and chemical homogenization, whereas PA ones can be consolidated only by simple densification. After sintering, BE-CS and P-S are hot isostatically pressed and BE-DS is hot forged to remove residual pores in the sintered samples. Apparent microstructural evolution is not observed in BE-CSH and P-SH. Moreover, BE-DSF exhibits significantly fine grains and high density of low-angle grain boundaries. Thus, these microstructures provide Ti-6Al-4V components with enhanced mechanical properties (tensile strength of 1179 MPa).

  • The combination ratio of oyster mushroom cultivation supplements have used poplar sawdust(PS) 50% : beet pulp(BP) 30% : cotton seeds meal(CS) 20%. we substituted cotton seeds meal and beet pulp for food by-product dried wastes(DW) 10, 20. 30% respectively. In case of mixing with DW 10% except from BP, mycelial growth was inhibited a little, but mycelial density was accelerated. The more DW contents increase, the more mycelial growth was inhibited, but mycelial growth was accelerated a little, respectively. In case of mixing with DW except from CS, mycelial growth was similar to control almost. In case of mixing with DW except from CS and BP, mycelial growth was inhibited remarkably. CHUNCHU variety developed resistance to developed than SUHAN variety.

  • A PVC membrane electrode based on upper-rim calix[4]crown as ionophore was prepared using dioctyl sebacate (DOS) as a plasticizer. The potential response of this membrane electrode to alkali, alkaline earth metal cations were examined. This membrane electrode exhibited a Nemstian response to $10^{-5}-10^{-1}M$ of CsCI with a slope of 52.3 mV/decade in Tris-buffer(pH 7.20). Its response time ($t_{90%}$) was 10s and it could be used for at least 2 months.
