An Experimental Study on the Engineering Property and Durability of Concrete With Replacement Ratio of Crushed Sand (부순모래 대체율에 따른 콘크리트의 공학적 특성 및 내구성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, Trouble of sand supply is occurred according to exhaustion of natural sand resources. therefore, various measures are proposed for solution of trouble of sand supply also the government settled trouble of sand supply through application of crushed sand. but because both crushed sand are poor against general sand, they lead to lowering of qualify of ready-mixed concrete. Therefore, this study evaluated engineering property and durability of concrete using crushed sand and applied evaluation result to fundamental data for quality control of concrete using crushed sand. The results of this study have shown that quality of concrete using crushed sand independently is poor against general concrete. but, the workability, compressive strength and durability of concrete mixed crushed sand with genera can improve on those of concrete used general sand.

  • The crushed limestone sand is an abundant material in Tunisia, which induces many environmental problems. Indeed, available stocks of siliceous sand drastically decrease because of its massive use in hydraulic concrete. Some recent research works, carried out in Tunisia, concluded that crushed limestone sand may be used in concrete manufacture instead of siliceous sand traditionally used. In this context, an experimental study was achieved in order to quantify the influence of a partial or total substitution of siliceous sand by crushed limestone sand on hydraulic concrete performances. Preliminary chemical and physical tests on crushed sand indicated that it presented the minimum requirement for its use as aggregate in hydraulic concrete. 79 concretes were then prepared with siliceous sand, crushed limestone sand and a mix of the two sands. Their slump value and compressive strengths were measured on plain concretes. Complementary structural tests on reinforced concrete beam were also performed. The results proved that crushed limestone sand concretes showed workability and mechanical performances closed to those of siliceous sand concretes.

Investigation on Properties of Concrete with Crushed Sand on Site (부순모래를 사용한 콘크리트의 현장 품질 특성에 관한 실험 연구)

  • This study is to investigate the properties of concrete with crushed sand on site and to propose a quality guideline for its use as artificial sand and concrete. From our experimental result in laboratory and site, we found that demand water of concrete with crushed sand for target slump increased by 18kg/m3 compared to mixed sand and l8kg/m3 compared to sea sand respectively. The compressive strength increased by around 3∼6% when compared to concrete with sea sand. Accordingly, our study showed that the combined sand mixed with sea sand would be desirable to obtain workability and strength of concrete including dry shrinkage and bleeding test. Furthermore, the optimal replacement percentage of crushed sand was 50% with sea sand. As such, crushed sand would be sufficient as fine aggregate for concrete in terms of economic efficiency and quality. Crushed sand, on the other hand can only be used as fine aggregate when VFS(Very Fine Sand) is below 3.5 percentage of weight of sand and particle shape is above 55 percentage. Also, the particle shape and microsand passing NO.200 sieve should continually be improved to increase workability of concrete on site.

  • Recently, with the wide shortage of natural sand resources, it has been increasingly used the crushed sand. rushed sand is made by the process of crushing the rocks artificially, which has different particle properties compared with that of natural sand. Because such different panicle properties of crushed sand results in an undesirable effects of concrete. improvement technology for crushed sand particle properties like grain shape and fine particle needed during the manufacturing process. In this paper, improvement technology of grain shape and fine particle is reported. According to test results, adequate investment for manufacturing facilities like impact crusher and abrasion test machine is required to meet the advanced grain shape and grading of crushed sand. Based on the investigation of test result, mixing of natural land and crushed sand with given proportion can achieve the improvement of grain shape. For improving excessive fine panicle contents. current manufacturing system also can enhance the existing technology for fine particle without additional investment. It can be concluded that adequate investment and research can improve the quality of crushed sand.

The Quality of Crushed Sand by Dry Production Process and Its Influence on Properties of Concrete (건식공정으로 생산한 부순 모래의 품질 및 콘크리트 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • As the shortage of natural & good quality aggregate for concrete, it is needed development of alternative aggregate. At the present time, the crushed sand is widely used among the alternation aggregate, and the usage of crushed sand will be increased more and more. Generally, crushed sud is produced with wet process in domestic, but some manufacturing companies which are handicapped with local restrict are produced by dry process. In this study, analyzing the facilities of dry crushed sand, the quality properties of dry crushed sand was done by Korean Industrial Standards. Based on the quality results of dry crushed sand, the experiment of concrete with the dry crushed sand which is substitute for sea sand was done. As the results of basic qualities, the amount of 0.08 mm sieve passing ratio was over KS criteria, and the fineness modulus was higher than sea sand, and the other physical properties of dry crushed sand was similar to sea sand. The results of concrete experiment, according to the substitutive ratio of dry crushed sand is increased, the slump and air content of concrete was decreased by increase of fine particles of dry crushed sand, and the unit weight content, compressive & tensile strength of concrete were increased on the contrary. The physical properties of concrete used dry crushed sand were showed same tendency without relation to W/B. Consequently, if the fine particle contents of dry crushed sand was lower, it is judged that dry crushed sand is no problem to use for concrete aggregate and the amount of usage will be increased.

Therefore, this study evaluated physical properties of mortar using crushed sand and applied evaluation result to fundamental data The result of this study have shown that quality of mortar using crushed sand independently is poor against general mortar. but, mortar flow and compressive strength is increased in case of using crushed sand according to mixing ratio properly.

  • This paper investigated the engineering properties of cement mortar mixed with more than 2 kinds of sand. For fresh mortar properties, unit volume weight is constant regardless of mixing content and type of sand. An increase in contents of river and crushed sand resulted in an increase in flow, whereas an increase in recycled sand contents reduced flow. Gap between maximum flow in N3C0R0 and minimum flow in N0C0R3 exhibited about $12\%$. Compressive strength at 28 days ranged from 32 to 36 MPa in order for crushed sand, river sand and recycled sand. Mortar with mixed sand along with river sand and crushed sand showed compressive strength comparable to crushed sand. An increase of fraction of recycled sand in mixed sand resulted in a decrease in compressive strength. For drying shrinkage, N0C0R3 had the largest drying shrinkage among various mixture type. The combination of large contents of recycled sand and small contents of river and crushed sand had a large amount of drying shrinkage.

The result of this study have shown that quality of concrete using crushed sand and EEZ sand and The compressive strength of concrete up to 50, 70% EEZ sand replacement by crush sand, nearly equal to that of general sand.

  • The results of an experimental study on the mechanical properties of concrete utilizing crushed sand for construction materials are persented in this paper. As the results show, the workability, compressive strength and drying shrinkage were improved by propeer contents of replaced crushed sand. And the workability, compressive strength and drying shinkage were decreased by increasing very fine sand. Also, the suitable weight contents of replacing ratio of crushed sand in concrete using crushed sand were in range of about 30%. And the use of crushed sand containing very fine sand under the permitted limit by regulated KS F 2558 has not very much problems in concrete.

  • Generally, aggregate may limit the strength of concrete, and aggregate with undesirable properties including strength, shape and grading etc. cannot produce good concrete. Also, the properties of aggregate greatly affect the durability and structural performance of concrete. Recently, it has increased the using of crushed aggregate for concrete due to the exhaustion of good natural aggregate. In case of Korea, the using ratio of crushed stone occupies about 97% of whole coarse aggregate, and ratio of crushed sand occupies about 18.3% of whole fine aggregate. This is an experimental study to compare and analyze the properties of crushed sand for concrete in capital region and concrete according to the replacement ratio of crushed sand to do suitable mix design and improve the concrete quality. According to results, it was found that nearly all the properties of crushed sand satisfied with the value recommended by KS.
