The purpose of this study was to elucidate the size and morphologic characteristics of maxillary primary first molars in Korean children using three-dimensional laser scanner and compare three-dimensional image with preformed stainless steel crown. Scanned three-dimensional images of dental cast taken from 132 children(male 62, female 70) by three-dimensional laser scanner(Breuckmann opto-Top HE100, INUS, Korea) were used. Mesiodistal diameter, buccolingual diameter, occlusogingival height and crown shape of each image were calculated by Rapidform 2004 program(INUS, Korea). The values were statistically compared by independent samples t-test with 95% of significant level. The results were as follows : 1. No significant difference in crown size was found between left and right maxillay primary first molar(p>0.05). 2, Significant difference in mesiodistal diameter, buccolingual diameter, buccal occlusogingival height was found between male and female (p<0.05), and crown size of male was bigger than that of female. 3. Average image of maxillay primary first molar was shaped three-dimensionally and measured. In comparison with 3M stainless steel crown, this image was similar with No.4 or No.5 SS crown in male, No.4 in female. In comparison with ILSUNG SS crown, this image was similar with No.5 in male, No.4 in female. 4 Mesiolingual line angle area, distolingual line angle area and buccogingival ridge were more obvious in average image than 3M stainless steel crown. ILSUNG SS crown was more square and had longer mesiodistal diameter than average 3D image.

A series of centrifuge model tests were performed in order to investigate the behaviors of various tunnel linings. A 1/100-scaled aluminum and hydrostone horseshoe tunnel linings with a radius km, height km were buried in a depth of C/D=3 with dry Joomunjin standard sand, the relative density of which was 86%. Bending moments and thrusts along the tunnel circumference were measured by 12 strain gages. Earth pressures in soil and on lining were estimated by pressure transducers, ground surface settlements at center and edges by using LVDTs. Average Ko(coefficient of earth pressure at rest) was 0.39 for the model sand. The structural behaviors of lining depended on its damaged conditions. But, as a rule, on the crown, the tensile circumferential strain of lining occurred at the inner surface, and the compressive at the outer surface, then positive bending moment was created at the crown. The circumferential strain of the inner surface on the springline was tensile, and the outer compressive, so negative bending moment was measured at the springline. For hydrostone linings, cracks initiated at the inner surface on the crown, and the outer on the springline over average 40g.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine whether orthodontic treatment experience affects the individual's perception of smile esthetics and to evaluate differences among orthodontically treated laypersons, non-treated laypersons, and dentists by using computerized image alterations. Methods: A photograph of a woman's smile was digitally altered using a software image editing program. The alterations involved gingival margin height, crown width and length, incisal plane canting, and dental midline of the maxillary anterior teeth. Three groups of raters (orthodontically treated laypersons, non-treated laypersons, and dentists) evaluated the original and altered images using a visual analog scale. Results: The threshold for detecting changes in maxillary central incisor gingival margin height among laypersons was 1.5 mm; the threshold of dentists, who were more perceptive, was 1.0 mm. For maxillary lateral incisor crown width and height, the threshold of all three groups was 3.0 mm. Canting of the incisal plane was perceived when the canting was 3.0 mm among non-treated laypersons, 2.0 mm among treated laypersons, and 1.0 mm among dentists. Non-treated laypersons could not perceive dental midline shifts; however, treated laypersons and dentists perceived them when the shift was ${\geq}3.0mm$. Conclusions: Laypersons with and without orthodontic treatment experience and dentists have different perceptions of smile esthetics. Orthodontically treated laypersons were more critical than non-treated laypersons regarding incisal plane canting and dental midline shifts. Based on these findings, it is suggested that orthodontic treatment experience improved the esthetic perceptions of laypersons.
This study was conducted to develop a carbon storage distribution map of Pinus rigida stands in Muju-gun by using of the National Forest Inventory data and digital forest map. The relationships between the stand variables such as height, age, diameter at breast height (DBH), crown density and aboveground biomass of Pinus rigida were analyzed. The results showed that the crown density had the highest positive correlation with a value of 0.74 followed by the height variable with value of 0.61. The aboveground biomass regression models were developed to estimate biomass and carbon storage map. The results of this study showed that the average carbon storage was 58.2 ton C/ha while the total carbon stock of rigida pine forests in Muju area was estimated to be 430,963 C ton.
Statement of problem: A difficulty in achieving a passive-fitting prosthesis can be overcome by individual crown restoation of multiple implants. But individualized crown has another difficulty in control of contact tightness and stress distribution. Purpose: This in vitro study is to evaluate the stress distribution and the magnitude in the supporting tissues around Endopore implants with different crown lengths, interproximal contact tightness, and the splinting effects. Material & methods: Three Endopore implants($4.1{\times}9mm$) were placed in the mandibular posterior edentulous area distal to the canine and photoelastic model was made with PL-2 resin(Measurements Group, Raleigh, USA). Restorations were fabricated in two crown lengths: 9, 13 mm. For non-splinted restorations, individual crowns were fabricated on three custom-milled titanium abutments. After the units were cemented, 4 levels of interproximal contact tightness were evaluated: open, ideal($8{\mu}m$ shim stock drags without tearing), medium($40{\mu}m$), and heavy($80{\mu}m$). For splinted restorations, 3-unit fixed partial dentures were fabricated. This study was examined under simulated non-loaded and loaded conditions(6.8 kg). Photoelastic stress analysis was carried out to measure the fringe order around the implant supporting structure. Results: 1. When restorations were not splinted, the more interproximal contact tightness was increased among the three implants, the more stress was shown in the cervical region of each implant. When crown length was increased, stresses tended to increase in the apex of implants but there were little differences in stress fringes. 2. When nonsplinted restorations were loaded on the first or third implant, stresses were increased in the apex and cervical region of loaded implant. Regardless of interproximal contact tightness level, stresses were not distributed among the three implants. But with tighter interproximal contact, stresses were increased in the cervical region of loaded first or third implant. 3. When the nonsplinted restorations were not loaded, there were little stresses on the supporting structure of implants, but low level stresses were shown in the splinted restorations even after sectioning and soldering. 4. With splinted restorations, there were little differences in stresses between different crown lengths. When splinted restorations were loaded, stresses were increased slightly on the loaded implant, but relatively even stress distribution occurred among the three implants. Conclusions: Splinting the crowns of adjacent implants is recommended for Endopore implants under the overloading situation.
The aim of this study was to compare the morphological characteristics of two types of stainless steel permanent molar crowns using three-dimensional scanners and the morphological changes of these crowns after crimping. Two types of stainless steel permanent molar crowns, PO-96 and PERMACROWN were scanned using three-dimensional scanner. Crown size, crown index (ratio of buccolingual diameter to mesiodistal diameter at height of contour), cervical convergency of crown were measured. Stainless steel crowns were crimped and re-scanned with three-dimensional scanner. Morphological changes of stainless steel permanent molar crowns were analyzed. As for the crown index, maxillary PERMACROWN was larger buccolingually and smaller mesiodistally than maxillary PO-96 and mandibular PERMACROWN was smaller buccolingually and larger mesiodistally than mandibular PO-96. Maxillary PO-96 was more convergent to cervical mesiodistally than maxillary PERMACROWN and mandibular PO-96 was more convergent to the cervical mesiodistally, buccolingually than mandibular PERMACROWN. Both types of stainless steel permanent molar crowns showed reduction of cervical circumference after crimping. Two products were morphologically different in crown size, shape and cervical convergence. Although both types of stainless steel permanent molar crowns are pre-contoured type, additional crimping is needed to achieve better marginal adaptation.

Fibular free flap reconstruction is the flap of the choice in long-span mandibular bone reconstruction. The most common disadvantage of the fibular flap is short bone height to install dental implant. Double barrel fibular flap has been tried, however, bulky flap in the oral cavity hinder its use. Titanium reconstruction plate has been used simultaneously with the free fibular flap to stabilize occlusion and to fix the fibular flap. In this study, titanium reconstruction plate was fixed in the lower border of the mandible and the fibular free flap was fixed in the superior border of the titanium plate to improve implant-crown ratio. This new technique improved the longevity of the dental prosthodontics with dental implants.
This study investigated tree vigor of damaged forest by Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye. In damaged forest by pine gall midge, the investigation result of damaged rate section (severe, moderate, light) indicated that severe stand showed higher value of electric resistance ($k{\Omega}$) than that of light stand, the investigation result of tree density section(crowed, middle, little) indicated that crowed stand showed higher value of electric resistance than that of little stand (the value of electric resistance at which low reading show high vigor tree and high reading low vigor tree). The crown width and DBH (diameter of breast height) of external factors showed lower value of electric resistance than that of small size. The results of comparative between Crown area and value of electric resistance in each stand were $13.4m^2$ in severe stand, $10.9m^2$ in moderate stand and $7.9m^2$ in light stand. Therefore, the tree which have big crown showed low value of electric resistance (below $15k{\Omega}$)that has high possible of survial.

Statement of problem: Arrangement and angulation of clinical crown is very important for esthetic restoration in the upper anterior dentition. However, there was no clinical criteria to mesial angulation of the crown for Korean. Purpose: This study was undertaken to estimate the mesial angulation of the crown of the anterior teeth and the Oh's E-triangle made of the inter-pupillary line and the mesial inclination lines of the canines. Material and Method: 270 portraits of Korean were used for this study. The mesial angulation of the upper anterior teeth and the relationship of the inter-pupillary line and the mesial inclination lines of the canines were measured with the tools of PhotoShop software on the scanned images. Results: The angulation between the clinical crowns having a same name in the upper anterior dentition were $3.6^{\circ}$ between the central incisors, $8.6^{\circ}$ between the lateral incisors, and $13.6^{\circ}$ between the canines. There was no significance according to occupation and gender( P > 0.05). The ratio of height to base line of Oh's E-triangle was 4.47. 81.6% of the subjects showed the mesial inclination line of the canine passed by mesial border area of pupil. Conclusion: These data for Korean would be useful clinically to give the esthetic arrangement and to make the contour of upper anterior teeth.
Estimating above-ground biomass is important in establishing an applicable methodology of Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) System for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation-Plus (REDD+). We developed an estimation model of diameter at breast height (DBH) from IKONOS-2 image that led to above-ground biomass estimation (AGB). The IKONOS image was preprocessed with dark object subtraction and topographic effect correction prior to watershed segmentation for tree crown delineation. Compared to the field observation, the overall segmentation accuracy was 64%. Crown detection percent had a strong negative correlation to tree density. In addition, satellite-based crown area had the highest correlation with the field measured DBH. We then developed the DBH allometric model that explained 74% of the data variance. In average, the estimated DBH was very similar to the measured DBH as well as for AGB. Overall, this method can potentially be applied to estimate AGB over a relatively large and remote tropical forest in Northern Borneo.
