  • In heavy industrial fields such as power plant and chemical plant, it is often necessary to restore a damaged part of large machinery or structure which is installed in the hazard working place. In this paper, to evaluate the safety of plastic deformed cylindrical beam a finite element technique has been used. The variations of residual stresses on the process of damaging and restoring for surfaces and cross-sections have been examined. The results show that the maximum von Mises stresses occur outer cylinder surfaces of boundary between cylindrical beam support md cylindrical beam when deformation procedure and restoring force is applied. The maximum residual stress remains 158.6MPa in the inner wall and this value correspond to $53\%$ of yield stress then restoration procedure is finished.

  • This paper concerns a method for micro-wave imaging. The image reconstruction of a perfect conducting cylinder by phase and amplitude measurement using the X-Band multifrequency is presented troll the simulated data. The high degree of range resolution is achieved using large signal band-width and cross-range resolution is obtained by doppler processing. The comparison of image reconstruction between range doppler processing and circular convolution algorithm is also shown.

  • In order to turn the Bag Filter to the Purse Filter, the past system that the adverse reason is removed, the input of synthetic materiality of dust and air is placed down, and the output is placed up has been improved so that any adverse effect shall not be raised. The form of filteration mechanism is changed from a cylinder from, and the dust and air is mixed to make the entry velocity and one person can velocity of the mixed materiality become lower by the use of infinity, and the reception of filteration mechanism has been made reasonably. The dust separated from the filteration mechanism is desceded down, snd the mixde materiality is ascended up. So, a cross point is formed, and a collision and a friction is occurred from its process, and at its result, dust is scattered to stick to a filter cloth, therefore, the loss of pressure shall ont be appeared by cause of the increase of dust-loading.

  • In order to reduce the oil consumption for a 2 stroke free piston hydrogen fueled engine, the behaviors of residual lubricant oil of the cylinder wall surface were visualized and oil mass emitted into exhaust port was measured by using research engine with cross-head and eccentric crankshaft. As the results, it was shown that characteristics of residual lubricant oil such as oil thickness and distribution were remarkably different from a conventional 4 stroke engine. It was also analyzed that these tendencies relied on the configuration and installed position of the exhaust port, piston pin boss and so on.

  • The VIV (Vortex-Induced Vibration) analysis of a flexible cylindrical structure under locally strong shear flow is presented. The model is made of Teflon and has 9.5m length, 0.0127m diameter, and 0.001m wall thickness. 11 2-dimensional accelerometers are installed along the model. The experiment has been conducted at the ocean engineering basin in the University of Tokyo in which uniform current can be generated. The model is installed at about 30 degree of slope and submerged by almost overall length. Local shear flow is made by superposing uniform current and accelerated flow generated by an impeller. The results of frequency and modal analysis are presented.

  • This paper analyzes the vocal tract area estimation algorithm used as a part of a speech analysis program to help deaf children correct their pronunciations by comparing their vocal tract shape with normal children's. Assuming that a vocal tract is a concatenation of cylinder tubes with a different cross section, we compute the relative vocal tract area of each tube using the reflection coefficients obtained from linear predictive coding. Then, obtain the absolute vocal tract area by computing the height of lip opening with a formula modified for children's speech. Using the speech data for five Korean vowels (/a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, and /u/), we investigate the effects of the sampling frequency, frame size, and model order. We compare vocal tract shapes obtained from deaf and normal children's speech.

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the compressive strength of small scale concentrically axially loaded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) confined plain concrete columns, with cylinder concrete strength 19 MPa. For columns with circular (150-mm diameter) and square (150-mm side) cross sections wrapped with glass- and carbon-FRP sheets (GFRP and CFRP, respectively) applied with dry lay-up the effect of different jacket schemes and different overlap configurations on the confined characteristics is investigated. Test results indicate that the most cost effective jacket configuration among those tested is for one layer of CFRP, for both types of sections. In square sections the location of the lap length, either in the corner or along the side, does not seem to affect the confined performance. Furthermore, in circular sections, the presence of an extra wrap with FRP fibers parallel to the column's axis enhances the concrete strength proportionally to the axial rigidity of the FRP jacket. The recorded strains and the distributions of lateral confining pressures are discussed. Existing design equations are used to assess the lateral confining stresses and the confined concrete strength making use of the measured hoop strains.

  • The primary objective of this study is to examine the influence of geometry on the stability characteristics of cylindrical microstructures. This investigation entails a stability analysis of a bi-directional functionally graded (BD-FG) cylindrical imperfect concrete beam, focusing on the impact of geometry. Both the first-order shear deformation beam theory and the modified coupled stress theory are employed to explore the buckling and dynamic behaviors of the structure. The cylinder-shaped imperfect beam is constructed using a porosity-dependent functionally graded (FG) concrete material, wherein diverse porosity voids and material distributions are incorporated along the radial axis of the beam. The radius functions are considered in both uniform and nonuniform variations, reflecting their alterations along the length of the beam. The combination of these characteristics leads to the creation of BD-FG configurations. In order to enable the assessment of stability using energy principles, a numerical technique is utilized to formulate the equations for partial derivatives (PDEs).

  • In this study, a system to measure continuously the fuel concentration in a steady flow rig on the basis of Rayleigh scattering is presented. The system can be employed to measure both the temporal and the spatial distribution. Also, it is possible to calibrate the system for the measurement of accurate absolute concentration. Firstly, the system was tested at a calibration chamber for the determination of scattering cross section from propane, butane, acetylene, Freon-12 and Genetron 143a. After this, the system was adapted to a steady flow rig to measure the temporal and spatial fuel concentration. The rig is composed of cylinder head, intake manifold, injector, and transparent cylinder which can simulate internal combustion engine. To cope with the problem of Mie scattering interference, a software filter was developed, which is based on the rise time and the time constant of the photomultiplier-amplifier system. The results show that LRS can provide useful informations about concentration field and the software filter is very effective method to remove Mie interference.
