  • In this paper, the optimal extended homotopy analysis method (OEHAM) is introduced to deal with the damped Duffing resonator driven by a van der Pol oscillator, which can be described as a complex Multi-Degree-of-Freedom (MDOF) nonlinear coupling system. Ecumenically, the exact solutions of the MDOF nonlinear coupling systems are difficult to be obtained, thus the development of analytical approximation becomes an effective and meaningful approach to analyze these systems. Compared with traditional perturbation methods, HAM is more valid and available, and has been widely used for nonlinear problems in recent years. Hence, the method will be chosen to study the system in this article. In order to acquire more suitable solutions, we put forward HAM to the OEHAM. For the sake of verifying the accuracy of the above method, a series of comparisons are introduced between the results received by the OEHAM and the numerical integration method. The results in this article demonstrate that the OEHAM is an effective and robust technique for MDOF nonlinear coupling systems. Besides, the presented methods can also be broadly used for various strongly nonlinear MDOF dynamical systems.

  • This paper discusses haptic display for grasping a virtual object by two fingers. Much research has been done on fundamental analysis for stability of haptic display. But it is difficult to apply the results immediately to grasping situations by two fingers, since the studies usually deal with a single device and a single object and the fingertip force in grasping situations has two components, internal and external components. The conventional methods, which specify the coupling impedance at each contact point separately, have no other alternative but to specify the impedance for the sum of the internal and external components. So even if only the impedance for the external force should be changed, the impedance for the internal force is also changed at the same time. In this paper, a new method, in which the coupling impedance is specified separately for the internal and external forces, is proposed and the stability of the proposed method is discussed using passivity analysis for 1 -DOF(Degree-Of-Freedom) system. Finally, some experiments are performed to study the effects of the proposed method.

  • A new approach to analyze the multi-domain acoustic system divided and enclosed by flexible structures is presented in this paper. The boundary element formulation of the Helmholtz integral equation is used for the internal fields and the finite element formulation for the structures surrounding the fields. We developed a numerical analysis program for the structural-acoustic coupling problems of the multi-domain system, in which boundary conditions such as the continuity of normal particle velocity and sound pressure in the structural interfaces between Field 1 and Field 2 are not needed. The validity of the numerical analysis program is verified by comparing the numerical results with the experimental ones. Example problems are included to investigate the characteristics of the coupled multi-domain system.

  • The theoretical method is developed to investigate the vibration characteristics of the combined cylindrical shells with an annular plate joined to the shell at any arbitrary axial position. The structural rotational coupling between shell and plate is simulated using the rotational artificial spring. For the translational coupling, the continuity conditions for the displacements of shell and plate are used. For the uncoupled annular plate, the transverse motion is considered and the in-plane motions are not. And the additional transverse and in-plane motions of the coupled annular plate by shell deformation are considered in analysis. Theoretical formulations are based on Love's thin shell theory. The frequency equation of the combined shell with an annular plate is derived using the Rayleigh-Ritz approach. The effect of inner-to-outer radius ratio, axial position and thickness of annular plate on vibration characteristics of combined cylindrical shells is studied. To demonstrate the validity of present theoretical method, the finite element analysis is performed.

  • This paper presents the dynamic characteristics of a linear brushless dc (BLDC) motor with permanent magnet excitation for the precision conveyor according to the load condition. Dynamic performance of the linear BLDC motor driven with 6 step inverter such as thrust force and speed is simulated by finite element method coupling with external circuit and measured for the prototype motor. The results of finite element analysis are compared to the experimental results and verify reliability.

  • A modeling method for the vibration analysis of rotating composite cantilever plates is presented in this paper. The coupling effects between inplane motions and the bending motion are considered and explicit mass and stiffness matrices are derived for the modal analysis. Numerical results are obtained and some of them are compared to those of a commercial program to confirm the accuracy of the present method. Numerical results show that the coupling effects become important only when laminates are stacked up unsymmetrically. Incidentally, natural frequencies loci veering, loci crossing, and associated mode shape variations are observed.

  • This paper is concerned with the free vibration analysis of a circular plate with an eccentric circular hole by the Independent coordinate coupling method(ICCM). It was proved in the previous study that the ICCM can accurately predict the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the annular plates and can also be used for the free vibration analysis of the simply-supported circular plate with an eccentric circular hole. In this study, the clamped and free boundary conditions were considered for the circular plate. The numerical results show that the ICCM can be used effectively for the free vibration problem of circular plate with an eccentric hole compared to the finite element method.

  • This paper is concerned with the vibration analysis of a rectangular plate with multiple circular holes. On the contrary to the case of rectangular plate with multiple rectangular holes, it is very difficult to perform qualitative analysis on natural vibration characteristics because of geometrical inconsistency. In this paper, we applied the Independent Coordinate Coupling Method(ICCM) to the addressed problem, which was developed to compute natural vibration characteristics of the rectangular plate with a circular hole and proven to be computationally effective. The ICCM is based on Rayleigh-Ritz method but utilizes independent coordinates for each hole domain. By matching the deflection conditions for each hole imposed on the expressions, we can easily derive the reduced mass and stiffness matrices. The resulting equation is then used for the calculation of the eigenvalue problem. The numerical results show the efficacy of the Independent Coordinate Coupling Method.

  • A modeling method for the modal analysis of a pre-twisted multi-packet blade system undergoing rotational motion is presented in this paper. Blades are idealized as pre-twisted cantilever beams that are fixed to a rotating disc. The stiffness coupling effects between blades due to the flexibilities of the disc and the shroud are modeled with discrete springs. The coupling effect between chordwise and flapwise bending deflection is also considered. Hybrid deformation variables are employed to derive the equations of motion. To obtain more general information, the equations of motion are transformed into dimensionless forms in which dimensionless parameters are identified. The effects of the dimensionless parameters and the number of packets as well as blades on the modal characteristics of the rotating multi-packet pre-twisted blade system are investigated with some numerical examples.

  • This paper deals with magnetic characteristic analysis of axial flux permanent magnet coupling according to overload using analytical method. When magnet coupling has a slip, the eddy current induced in PM with conductivity. This eddy current make a distorted flux density. In this paper, we analyze the distorted flux density. The analytical results are validated extensively by comparing with 3d finite element analysis.
