A higher order zig-zag plate theory is developed to accurately predict fully coupled mechanical, thermal, and electric behaviors. Both the in-plane displacement and temperature fields through the thickness are constructed by superimposing linear zig-zag field to the smooth globally cubic varying field. Smooth parabolic distribution through the thickness is assumed in the transverse deflection in order to consider transverse normal deformation. Linear zig-zag form is adopted in the electric field. The layer-dependent degrees of freedom of displacement and temperature fields are expressed in tern-is of reference primary degrees of freedom by applying interface continuity conditions as well as bounding surface conditions of transverse shear stresses and transverse heat flux. The numerical examples of coupled and uncoupled analysis demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the present theory. The present theory is suitable for the predictions of fully coupled behaviors of thick smart composite plate under mechanical, thermal, and electric loadings combined.
This paper shows the temperature rise of the high voltage GIS bus bar. The temperature rise in GIS bus bar is due to Joule‘s losses in the conductor and the induced eddy current in the tank. The power losses of a bus bar calculated from the magnetic field analysis are used as the input data for the thermal analysis to predict the temperature. The required analysis is a couple-field Multiphysics that accounts for the interactions between three-dimensional AC harmonic magnetic and fluid fields. The heat transfer calculation using the fluid analysis is done by considering the natural convection and the radiation from the tank to the atmosphere. Consequently, because temperature distributions by couple-field Multiphysics (coupled magnetic-fluid) have good agreement with results of temperature rise test, the proposed couple-field Multiphysics technique is likely to be used in a conduction design of the single-pole and three pole-encapsulated bus bar in GIS..

The engine-out flow is highly transient and hot, and may place tremendous thermal and inertial loads on a closed-coupled catalyst. Therefore, time-dependent and detailed flow and thermal field simulation may be crucial. The aim of this study is to develop combined chemical reaction and multi-dimensional fluid dynamic mathematical model and to study the effect of unsteady pulsating thermal and flow characteristics on thermal reliability of closed-coupled catalyst. The effect of cell density on the conversion performance under real running condition is also investigated. Unlike previous studies, the present study focuses on coupling between the problems of pulsating flow pattern and catalyst thermal response and conversion efficiency. The results are expressed in terms of temporal evolution of flow, pollutant and temperature distribution as well as transient characteristics of conversion efficiency. Fundamental understanding of the flow and thermal phenomena of closed-coupled catalyst under real running condition is presented. It is shown that instants of significantly low values of flow uniformity and conversion efficiency exist during exhaust blowdown and the temporal varaition of flow uniformity is very similar in pattern to one of conversion efficiency. It is also found that the location of hot spot in monolith is directly affected by transient flow pattern in closed-coupled catalyst.
We analyze the nonlinearity of chiral media and coupled-mode theory of chiral multilayers. In first topic, second order nonlinear coupled equations are constructed and a phase matchine method is suggested. This approach can be developed to higher order nonlinearity and electric-field-induced second harmonic generation. In second topic, coupled mode equation in chiral multilayers is constructed, and solved for both codirectional coupling and contradirectional coupling. There is a previous formulation about chiral mutilayers[1] with 4$\times$4 matrix but it did not give detail results, so this approach will be compared with that.
In this study, direct code coupling, in which two codes share a single flow field, was conducted using 3-dimensional high resolution thermal hydraulics code, CUPID and 1-dimensional system analysis code, MARS. This approach provide the merit to use versatile capability of MARS for nuclear power plants and 3-dimensional T/H analysis capability of CUPID. Numerical Method to directly couple CUPID and MARS was described in this paper. The straight flow and manometer flow oscillation were calculated to verify conservation of coupled CUPID/MARS code in mass, momentum, and energy. This verification calculations indicates that the CUPID/MARS is coupled appropriately in numerical aspect and the coupled code can be applied to nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics after validation against integral transient experiments.

Vibration of a rotor-bearing system driven by an electric motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and magnetic origins through the air-gap. With the advent of new high-energy magnets together with high precision motor applications, magnetic sources of vibration are becoming more serious. This paper investigates the transient whirl responses of a rotor system with purely mechanical origins and compares it with that of magnetically coupled origins. A perturbation method is applied to model the magnetic field associated with rotor eccentricity. Electromagnetic forces are obtained by the Maxwell stress method, which utilizes the analytical expression of radial flux density distribution. The FEM was applied to a rotor-motor system to illustrate magnetically coupled effects in rotor dynamics. Results show that magnetically coupled sources significantly affect the vibration of the rotor-motor system.

A concept in which laser-sustained plasmas (LSPs) are combined with inductively coupled plasmas (ICPs) is proposed. The concept is aiming at extensions of operative conditions of a CW laser thruster due to the fact that the ICP has some characteristics which are in contrast to those of LSPs. An estimation confirmed that the concept would effectively work. And a fundamental experiment was conducted. The results showed that the radio frequency magnetic field induced by a alternate current of 13.56 MHz coupled inductively with LSPs, resulting in the enlargement of the plasma region and the attainment of the enthalpy. It is expected that some improvements will enable to transfer the RF power to the work gas more effectively and to demonstrate the synergy effect between the LSPs and the ICPs.
As the system with current is heat generation system, it has to be analyzed to consider effect in virtue of temperature. Hence this paper examined the solution of the coupled thermalelectro-mechanical problem. Mechanical modeling, force computation, electromagnetic field solution, and heat transfer modeling are addressed. It accomplished electro-mechanical coupled system analysis considering a temperature, the analysis method is by using extracted circuit parameters with resistivity by heat transfer analysis and inductance by electromagnetic analysis.
The rotatable anisotropy effect was observed in the ferromagnetic resonance measurement in exchange coupled ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic thin films and it was due to rotation of antiferromagnetic layer by the exchange coupling energy. We analyzed the CoFe thickness dependence of rotatable anisotropy field and ferromagnetic resonance linewidth in exchange coupled $CoFe(t_F)/MnIr(2.5nm)$ thin films. The rotatable anisotropy field was inversely propositional to the CoFe thickness and it was well fitted by the rotatable anisotropy energy of $0.96erg/cm^2$. The ferromagnetic resonance linewidth were linearly propositional to the rotatable anisotropy field in $t_F$ < 50 nm, while it was more dominated by the eddy current effect in $t_F$ > 50 nm.
