  • In this paper, the circuit that has characteristics of high speed and low dissipation is described. A 4:1 parallel ADC is constructed by using the designed SCFL(Source Coupled FET Logic). The results of simulation shows that comparators is obtained integrated nonlinearity, $\pm$28mV, compared with limiting value, $\pm$68mV, at 66NHz input signal and 2Gs/s Niquist rates and this paper describes low power dissipation about 0.43W by reducing the elements in a ADC design.

  • A bidirectional dc-dc converter is used in battery energy storage systems owing to the growing requirements of a charging and discharging mode of battery. The magnetic coupling of output or input inductors in parallel-connected multi modules of a bidirectional dc-dc converter is often utilized to reduce the peak-to-peak ripple size of the inductor current. This study proposes a novel design guideline to achieve minimal ripple size of the inductor current under bidirectional power flow. The newly proposed design guideline of optimized coupling factor is applicable to the buck and boost operation modes of a bidirectional dc-dc converter. Therefore, the coupling factor value of the coupled inductor does not have to be optimized separately for buck and boost operation modes. This new observation is explained using the theoretical model of coupled inductor and confirmed through simulation and experimental test.

  • Vibration analysis for a coupled MEMS gyroscope design is presented in this paper. Slight mistuning in fabricated MEMS gyroscopes often leads to significant difference of vibration characteristics between expected and real designs. This difference frequently results in a negative effect to the MEMS gyroscope performance. As long as the coupling between excited and sensed motions exists, such difference inevitably occurs. In this paper, dimensionless parameters that govern the vibration characteristics of coupled MEMS gyroscope are identified and the effects of the parameters on the vibration characteristics are investigated.

  • This paper investigates the design of coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple in rapid traction battery charger systems. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -0.5, i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches 1/3 or 2/3. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches either zero or one. Coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and battery current resulting in a reliable and efficient operation of battery chargers.

  • Ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) systems have become an efficient alternative to conventional cooling and heating methods due to their higher energy using efficiency. Although some experimental and simulation works related to performance analysis of GCHP systems for commercial buildings have been done, relatively little has been reported on the performance evaluation of GCHP systems for school buildings. The purpose of this simulation study is to evaluate the performance of a hypothetical GCHP system for a school building in Seoul. We collected various data of building specifications and construction materials for the building and then modeled to calculate hourly building loads with SketchuUp and TRNSYS V17. In addition, we used GLD (Ground Loop Design) V2016, a GCHP system design and simulation software, to design the GCHP system for the building and to simulate temperature of circulating water in ground heat exchanger. The variation of entering source temperature (EST) into the system was calculated with different prediction time and then each result was compared. For 20 years of prediction time, EST for baseline design (Case A) based on the hourly simulation results were outranged from the design criteria.

  • In this paper, the design method of the meander-coupled Wilkinson power divider with slit is proposed. Because the electrical performance of this structure is varied with each coupling distance and the slit's size, a tedious design work, which is done by trial and error correction, is required to determine the values of parameters for the best suitable operation. To solve this problems, therefore, an experimental design formulas for optimum performance are presented by curve fitting, under the desired center frequency($f_0$). As the example using the proposed design equation, we designed and fabricated the meander-coupled divider at $f_0$=1.5 GHz. It has better electrical performance and measured results also agrees very well that of the simulated. From these observation, it can be concluded that the obtained design formulas are useful for design of this divider.

  • We present a design sensitivity analysis(DSA) method for multiscale problems based on bridging scale decomposition. In this paper, we utilize a bridging scale method for the coupled system analysis. Since the analysis of full MD systems requires huge amount of computational costs, a coupled system of MD-level and continuum-level simulation is usually preferred. The information exchange between the MD and continuum levels is taken place at the MD-continuum boundary. In the bridging scale method, a generalized Langevin equation(GLE) is introduced for the reduced MD system and the GLE force using a time history kernel is applied at the boundary atoms in the MD system. Therefore, we can separately analyze the MD and continuum level simulations, which can accelerate the computing process. Once the simulation of coupled problems is successful, the need for the DSA is naturally arising for the optimization of macro-scale design, where the macro scale performance of the system is maximized considering the micro scale effects. The finite difference sensitivity is impractical for the gradient based optimization of large scale problems due to the restriction of computing costs but the analytical sensitivity for the coupled system is always accurate. In this study, we derive the analytical design sensitivity to verify the accuracy and applicability to the design optimization of the coupled system.

  • This paper describes a design for microstrip EMC cross dipole array antenna with circular polarization. To realize the wide bandwidth and circular polarization, the electromagnetic-coupled cross dipole is used. To obtain the uniform aperture illumination, offset technique for array is adopted. In 20-element array design, the calculated axial ratio and gain are about 0.1 dB and 9.9 dBi at 12GHz, respectively. The frequency characteristics of a fabricated 20-element array antenna are measured. The calculated results agree well with the measured ones.
