  • There has been a number of attempts to apply 3D CAD data created in the design stage of product life cycle to various applications of the other stages in related industries. But, 3D CAD data requires a large amount of computing resources for data processing, and it is not suitable for post applications such as distributed collaboration, marketing tool, or Interactive Electronic Technical Manual because of the design information security problem and the license cost. Therefore, various lightweight visualization formats and application systems have been suggested to overcome these problems. However, most of these lightweight formats are dependent on the companies or organizations which suggested them and cannot be shared with each other. In addition, product structure information is not represented along with the product geometric information. In this paper, we define a dataset called prod-X3D(Enhanced X3D Dataset for Web-based Visualization of 3D CAD Product Model) based on the international standard graphic format, X3D, which can represent the structure information as well as the geometry information of a product, and propose a translation method from 3D CAD data to an prod-X3D.

  • In this paper, we suggest a secure data dissemination by Lightweight Individual Encryption Multicast scheme over wireless sensor networks using the individual encryption method with Forward Error Correction instead of the group key encryption method. In wireless sensor networks, a sink node disseminates multicast data to the number of sensor nodes to update the up to date software such as network re-programming and here the group key encryption method is the general approach to provide a secure transmission. This group key encryption approach involves re-key management to provide a strong secure content distribution, however it is complicated to provide group key management services in wireless sensor networks due to limited resources of computing, storage, and communication. Although it is possible to control an individual node, the cost problem about individual encryption comes up and the individual encryption method is difficult to apply in multicast data transmission on wireless sensor networks. Therefore we only use 0.16% of individually encrypted packets to securely transmit data with the unicast to every node and the rest 99.84% non-encrypted encoded packets is transmitted with the multicast for network performance.

  • Dissemination of XML data on the internet could breach the privacy of data providers unless access to the disseminated XML data is carefully controlled. Recently, the methods using encryption have been proposed for such access control. However, in these methods, the performance of processing queries has not been addressed. A query processor cannot identify the contents of encrypted XML data unless the data are decrypted. This limitation incurs overhead of decrypting the parts of the XML data that would not contribute to the query result. In this paper, we propose the notion of query-aware decryption for efficient processing of queries against encrypted XML data. Query-aware decryption allows us to decrypt only those parts that would contribute to the query result. For this purpose, we disseminate an encrypted XML index along with the encrypted XML data. This index, when decrypted, informs us where the query results are located in the encrypted XML data, thus preventing unnecessary decryption for other parts of the data. Since the size of this index is much smaller than that of the encrypted XML data, the cost of decrypting this index is negligible compared with that for unnecessary decryption of the data itself. The experimental results show that our method improves the performance of query processing by up to 6 times compared with those of existing methods. Finally, we formally prove that dissemination of the encrypted XML index does not compromise security.

  • The drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle which has no human pilot. Drones can be classified into military drones, commercial drones, and personal drones by usage. Also, drones can be classified from large-sized to nano-sized drone by size and autonomous, remote controlled drone by control type. Especially, military drones can be classified into low-altitude drones, medium-altitude, and high-altitude drones by altitude. Recently, the drone industry is one of the fast growing industries in the world. As drone technologies have become more advanced and cost-effective, Korean government has set its goal to become a top-level country in drone business. However, the government's strict regulation for drone operations is one of the biggest hurdles for the development of the related technologies in Korea and other countries. For example, critical problems for drone delivery can be classified into technical issues and institutional issues. Technical issues include durability, conditional awareness, grasp and release mechanisms, collision avoidance systems, drone operating system. Institutional issues include pilot and operator licensing, privacy rules, noise guidelines, security rules, education for drone police. This study analyzes the trends of the drone industry from the viewpoint of technology and regulation. Also, we define the business areas of drone utilization. Especially, the drone business types or models for public sector are proposed. Drone services or functions promoting public interests need to be aligned with the business reference model of Korean government. To define ten types of drone uses for public sector, we combine the business types of government with the future uses of drones that are proposed by futurists and business analysts. Future uses of drones can be divided into three sectors or services. First, drone services for public or military sectors include early warning systems, emergency services, news reporting, police drones, library drones, healthcare drones, travel drones. Second, drone services for commercial or industrial services include parcel delivery drones, gaming drones, sporting drones, farming and agriculture drones, ranching drones, robotic arm drones. Third, drone services for household sector include smart home drones.

  • The EPCglobal Network is a computer network used to share product data among trading partners. It provides the supply chain with improved visibility and traceability by using Electronic Product Code (EPC), which is stored on an RFID tag. Although this network model is widely accepted as a global standard and the growth of EPCglobal-subscriber base is considerable, the EPC technology adoption process is still in its infancy. This is because some of the critical issues on this model still remain to be verified such as scalability, data management, security, privacy and the economic value of data sharing. In this paper, we focus on scalability issue among the challenges to overcome and we regard performance of the EPCglobal Network only as a track and trace query-processing cost in the network. We developed performance models consisting of three elements of the EPCglobal Network : Discovery Services (DS), EPC Information Services (EPCIS), Object Naming Services (ONS). Then we abstracted out the track and trace query execution model to evaluate performance of the overall EPCglobal Network. Finally using the proposed models, we carried out simulation analysis based on an RFID-based inbound logistics process of automobile parts. This work is an important step towards the EPC technology diffusion and provides guidelines for businesses looking to buy or build the EPCglobal Network-based systems.

  • When developing projects to build facilities to be shared by both military bases and surrounding communities, strategies are needed to achieve two objectives: 1) minimize missteps and opposition from local communities in the process of developing and implementing such projects, and 2) promote cost-benefit optimization and user-satisfaction. With aim of promoting co-operation and co-existence between military bases and adjust communities, this research proposes esthetical factors to be considered in conceiving civil-military sharing facilities. It seeks experts' opinions on the development of civil-military sharing facilities, and examines critical factors (economic feasibility, security, and satisfaction, etc.) for project development as well as building types suitable for shared-use between military bases and local residents. It then establishes a method to prioritize facility-type and narrow down design factors (considerations and restrictions) in project development by applying quantitative analysis. The methodological approach of the research employs the Delphi survey method to quantitatively analyze qualitative information drawn from experts' opinions. At the first round of the survey, facility types, items for consideration and restrictions are drawn, and then at the second round of the survey, criticality of each item is analyzed. Finally, it reaches a conclusion on suitability of facility types for civil-military sharing facilities, and selects project considerations and restrictions when developing this kind of project.
