After we compared the Unaided visual acuity and the Corrected visual acuity who were wearing eyeglasses, over second grade of elementary school in Chonju and Iksan, we could get conclusions like these. 1. The grades are getting higher, there are more who are wearing eyeglasses. 2. Unaided visual acuity becomes worse but and Corrected visual acuity becomes better according to older. 3. There are 23 eye, (17.8%) in boys and 38 eye, (19.2%) in girls who have below 0.6 of the Corrected visual acuity who have to change their eyeglasses. 4. If Unaided visual acuity is getting better, Corrected visual acuity is betre. 5. There were 4 boys (6.2%) and 9 girls (9%) is Anisometropia.
After we compared the Unaided visual acuity and the Corrected visual acuity who were wearing spectacles, all over elementary school in Iksan, we could get conclusions like these. 1. The grades are getting higher, there are more who are 0.6 unaided visual acuity, and getting higher Corrected who were wearing spectacles. 2. There are 30% who have to change their wearing spectacles. 3. Higher grade separated into good or worth visual acuity then lower grade. 4. When the first grade grow up third grade, change of unaided visual acuity increased at 0.2, decreased 0.7 and 1.0, but the case of fourth grade becomes sixth grade shown a little changes unaided visual acuity.
Purpose: This study was conducted to estimate the changes of corrected diopter and corrected visual acuity with the change in vertex distance. Also we aimed to provide basic data for refraction test. Methods: Using the trial lens, we measured the corrected diopter and corrected visual acuity after performing binocular balance test. We measured the changes of corrected diopter and corrected visual acuity in change of vertex distance. We analyzed statistical significance and relations between vertex distance and corrected diopter and corrected visual acuity. Results: There was no difference in corrected diopter with the change of vertex distance within -1.00D, but the corrected diopter increased with it over - 1.25D. In particular, the change of diopter was largest when the vertex distance increased 15 mm. At over 11.00D, there was large changes of diopter with the changes of vertex distance at 5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm. On correlation analysis between the vertex distance and the corrected diopter, there was strong correlation (r=0.999 at 5 mm increase of vertex distance, r=0.982 at 10 mm increase and r=0.957 at 15 mm increase) and also there was significant (p<0.01). At the change of visual acuity in increased of vertex distance, the range of a decrease in visual acuity was large when the changes of vertex distance was largest. On correlation analysis between the vertex distance and the corrected visual acuity, there was strong correlation (r=0.969 at 5 mm increase of vertex distance, r=0.985 at 10 mm increase and r=0.994 at 15 mm increase) and also there was significant (p<0.01). Conclusions: The vertex distance was very important at the refraction test and at wearing spectacle. On correlation analysis between the vertex distance and the corrected diopter, and the corrected visual acuity, there was strong correlation and statistically significant. Therefore, the vertex distance should be kept at the refraction using trial lens, and the best fitting was made not to slipping forward, and so we suggested regular refitting of spectacle and the managing method of spectacle were educated to the spectacle wearers.
The actual condition of periodic visual acuity testing for 304 undergraduate students were investigated for the purpose of prepared some fundamental data on the development of the eye-health education program and conducting a practical application. Many undergraduate students (59.21%) had not been tested periodic visual acuity testing. The ratio of periodic visual acuity testing for female was higher than male. There was statistical significant difference dependence on the native place, the educational system, and the division of major. The ratio of periodic visual acuity testing for undergraduate students from city was 43.07%, from rural area was 24.32% (p<0.05). According to the educational system, the ratio of periodic visual acuity testing of university students was 65.71%, college students was 27.64% (p<0.001). The ratio of periodic visual acuity testing of undergraduate students who have corrected their visual acuity was 50.25%, while that of students who have not corrected was 23.36% (p<0.001).
This study was classified and compared astigmatism's refractional abnormal degrees with visual acuity state of full correction which turned on axises of only 5 degree, 10 degree, and 15 degree. Subjects of this study were 57 college students (114 eyes) who had neither eye diseases nor binocular abnormality, were from their twenties to fifties, with myopia. It appeared that 30.8% of subjects who had astigmatism wore glasses with wrong axis of astigmatism. After accurate correction of the visual acuity and degrees of astigmatism, when we moved to corrected axises at 5 degree, 10 degree, 15 degree, failure of visual acuity with one line or more were 56.1%, 84.2%, 93.8%, respectively. When we comapre the completely-corrected visual acuity with the visual acuity with dricted axes, the bigger the width of visual acuity's weakness was the bigger the drifted angle. The change of normal visual acuity according to drifting angle of corrected axises of astigmatism, when we compared with full correction, appeared 0.94 in 5 degree, 0.87 in 10 degree, and 0.79 in 15 degree. Drift of 5 degree from fully corrected axis, corresponded to difference of visual acuity about one line, drift of 10 degree to 1.8 line difference of visual acuity, and drift of 15 degree about to 2.6 line difference. Through this study, we were sure that, in the case of drifting away from the right axis of astigmatism, it lead to visual weakness and asthenopia. Therefore we darely advise that optometrists should make mistake of axis least by confirming accucacy of corrected axis after despensing of spectacles of astigmatism.

We investigated the effect of age at initial correction, of 44 refractive amblyopic patients duration of correction on corrected visual acuity with the lapse of time for mean 33months(3months-59months). Full cycloplegic corrections were prescribed at the initial visit to all subjects. The distribution of initial corrected visual acuity was 0.02 to 0.5. Age at initial correction varied from 3 years to 12 years. The refractive error appeared to have the greatest influence on the visual outcome, showing continuous visual improvement after initial correction. But the age at initial correction did not appear to influence on the initial and final corrected visual acuity showed a significant difference, irrespective of age at the initial correction Or degree of anisometropia.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of under and over refractive correction on visual acuity performance and the variation of the visual performance measurement using two different visual acuity charts. Methods: Ten young adults, aged between 19 and 25 years old, were recruited. Inclusion criteria: no history of ocular injury or pathology with a best-corrected visual acuity of 6/6 on dominant eye. The over and under refractive corrections were induced using minus and plus spherical ophthalmic lenses in 0.50 D steps up to 3.00 D; as well as using three axis orientations of cylindrical ophthalmic lenses ($45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$) in 0.50 D steps. The variation of visual acuity performance measurements was investigated using Bailey-Lovie LogMAR chart and Landolt C chart. Results: The visual acuity changes with lenses were significantly different between two charts [F = 49.15, p < 0.05 with plus spherical ophthalmic lenses and F = 174.38, p < 0.05 with minus spherical ophthalmic lenses]. The visual acuity changes with three different cylindrical axis showed no significant difference between Bailey-Lovie LogMAR chart [F = 2.35, p > 0.05] and Landolt C chart [F = 3.12, p = 0.05]. Conclusions: The over and under refractive correction affected the visual acuity performance differently. The Landolt C chart and Bailey-Lovie LogMAR chart demonstrated variation in measurements.
Purpose: We aimed to evaluate reliability of eye exam for visual acuity as a function of distance. Methods: There were 39 patients (78 eyes) who had visual acuity 1.0 or more at 5 meters. We measured refractive power of patients at each distances, 5 meters, 4 meters and 3 meters. Automatic chart (LCD-700, Hyeseong Optic. Co., Korea) used for visual acuity, skiascope (Beta 200, Heine, Germany) and auto refractometer (RK-5, Canon, Japan) used as for objective refraction. Accommodation was examined by minus lens addition methods, and Accommodative lag was examined by grid chart for reading distance. Results: Being compared to 3 meter test, Amount of corrected spherical refractive power decreased by $0.10{\pm}0.38$ D, astigmatism decreased by $0.05{\pm}0.10$ D, and axis of astigmatism rotated toward to temporal by $2.64{\pm}18.75$ degrees for right eyes, by $11.43{\pm}48.55$ degrees for left eyes in case of 5 meter test. Changes of corrected refraction and astigmatism were slightly correlated (r=-0.31, r=-0.29). Conclusions: Because corrected refraction power and amount of astigmatism decreased and axis of astigmatism tends to turn the temporal direction according to exam distance, examination distance of visual acuity should improved as to 5 meters.
Purpose: This study is to predict refractive errors according to uncorrected visual acuity using uncorrected visual acuity of the first glasses wearers. Methods: For 886 children who visited an ophthalmic clinic, subjective refraction was carried out with maintain refraction (MR) and cycloplegic refraction (CR), and objective refraction was carried out using auto-refractometer. Uncorrected visual acuity and corrected visual acuity were tested using on a trial lens and a Han's visual acuity chart. Results: In correlation between with the uncorrected visual acuity and refractive the myopia was the highest (r=0.774) and followed by hyperopia (r=0.670), simple astigmatism (r=0.623), simple with-the-rule astigmatism (r=0.604)and simple against-the-rule astigmatism (r=0.508). Conclusions: There were differences in the predictions between uncorrected visual acuity and refractive error according to the types of refractive error and astigmatism.
Purpose: The Purpose of this study is to investigate if the relative legibility of optotypes affects the corrected visual acuity in visual acuity test. Methods: After measuring the relative legibility of 'Landolt ring target', 'arabic number target', 'alphabet target' by showing as a single-letter-target in 24 subjects without specific ocular diseases and ocular surgery experience, the relative legibility of 0.8, 1.0, 1.25 row of vision according to type of target in 7 types of chart were compared. After then we compared by measuring the corrected visual acuity according to type of target by using binocular MPMVA test (#7A) in 60 myopic subjects. Results: In 3 types of target the worst relative legibility target was 'Landolt ring target' with legible distance of $98.97{\pm}4.57cm$ and the best relative legibility target was 'alphabet target' with legible distance of $108.42{\pm}3.46cm$. There was no difference of the relative legibility according to type of chart or visual acuity level in the row of vision if other conditions are the same. In 1.0 and 1.25 row of vision the difference of relative legibility according to type of target was shown the statistically significant difference between 'Landolt ring target' and 'alphabet target' as $-0.07{\pm}0.06$ (p=0.02) and $-0.06{\pm}0.06$ (p=0.04) respectively. In myopia the difference of corrected visual acuity according to type of target was statistically significant difference between 'Landolt ring target' and 'arabic number target' as $-0.04{\pm}0.02$ (p=0.02) and it was especially remarkable in the low myopia. Conclusions: Measuring visual acuity with different optotypes could cause the errors in best vision measurement value because there was difference of the relative legibility according to type of target even though visual acuity level is same in the row of vision.
