With overall opening of global construction market by World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, importance of management efficiency of construction industry which considers both tangible and intangible assets is recently being recognized in our nation. That is, efforts for reinforcement of competitiveness must be placed through maximization of values of internal and external intangible assets of construction industry such as management innovation, information, investment in technology and R&D and intellectual property. Accordingly in this study, evaluation criteria for intangible assets of construction industry were investigated and classified. Using such criteria, evaluation index and model were established based on the degree of importance of each criterion. The purpose of this study is to review importance of intangible assets in terms of competitiveness and management efficiency of construction industry and to provide basic data for establishment of intangible assets and revitalization of investment.

This study confirmed the effect of manager's communication type perceived by organizational members on innovative behavior and the mediating effect of organizational culture. In other words, the manager's communication type was statistically positive for organizational members' innovation behavior (Hypothesis 1) and organizational culture (Hypothesis 2). Organizational culture improved innovative behavior of organizational members (Hypothesis 3). In addition, organizational culture played a mediating role between the manager's communication type and organizational members' innovative behavior (Hypothesis 4). In other words, the importance of improving the innovative behavior of organizational members, which is a key factor for advancing organizational sustainability management, was confirmed. It was confirmed that the manager's communication type and organizational culture act as a key factor for the advancement of innovative behavior. Therefore, executives and managers confirmed the importance of systematic managers' communication-type competency development and organizational culture revitalization plans and the necessity of implementing them in order to improve innovative behavior.

This study investigates business demands for firms operating in the Busan Sasang Industrial Area for the proposed knowledge-industry innovation base. Diverse improvement arrangements are proposed for revitalization of the industrial area. For these purposes, a questionnaire survey was conducted for the examination of physical conditions and enterprise demands among firms. The major findings are as follows. Firstly, judging from the examination of physical conditions, the study area has presented a lower rate of roads and smaller individual lots of land, which would contribute to a worsening business environment for small business owners. Secondly, business request for industrial-area innovation, pilot project needs, and expected impacts demonstrated higher scores. Thirdly, an absolute majority of firms strongly supported the proposed knowledge-industry innovation base and requested an R&D center as the first anchor facility. Based on these findings, guidelines are proposed for an institutional rearrangement plan. First of all, specific field surveys dealing with networking issues and industrial dominance should be immediately carried out. In addition, the proposed knowledge-industry innovation base should be equipped with significant power of influence for the adjacent industrial areas. Lastly, major stakeholders should upgrade the cooperative mechanism for innovative change in the regional industrial complex.
Since Michael Porter (1991) has proposed that environmental regulation can help a firm increase its competitiveness by encouraging it to engage in more innovative activities to meet the environmental regulation, a number of researchers have empirically investigated the "Porter Hypothesis." However, the empirical results still remain mixed. Combining the perspectives of the behavioral theory of the firm and firm heterogeneity, we argue that the levels of regulation stringency and time-pressure would differentially influence a firm's innovative behavior depending on the firm's aspiration level, performance feedback and technological capabilities. Using the U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) regulation context, we empirically demonstrate that lagging firms that do not meet the new regulation standard announced by the government tend to search for more distant knowledge and that the impact of the patents they file for decreases as the regulation becomes more stringent. In addition, we also find that as time-pressure increases, lagging firms stand to apply for more patents than do leading firms whereas the overall impact of the patents decreases. These results help us advance our understanding of the nuanced causal relationship between regulation and innovation and provide practical implications for policymakers.
Variables such as R&D capability and organizational orientation have been dealt with in previous studies on factors that affect the success of new products/services in technology-based companies, but there have been few studies examining the causal relationship of these variables from an integrated perspective. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of the organizational orientation and R&D capability of technology-based SMEs, consisting of customer orientation, innovation orientation, and competitor orientation, on the success of new products/services. In addition, we want to analyze the influence of a company's product/service competitiveness on the success of new products/services. The survey was commissioned by a research company, and 382 valid copies were analyzed by conducting a survey to corporate members in the technical job-related industry. The questionnaire analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0 and Smart PLS 3.0.Customer orientation, innovation orientation, and competitor orientation were found to have a positive effect on product/service competitiveness. It can be said that market changes in product/service competitiveness, technology improvement capability, target market analysis, etc. meet the objectives of most research projects, such as the success of new products/services. In addition, product/service competitiveness was found to have a positive effect on the success of new products/services. It can be seen that R&D capability has a positive effect on the success of new products/services and plays an important role in business expansion of SMEs. From this analysis result, it was found that the organizational orientation and R&D capability of a company have a positive effect on the success of new products/services. Based on the results of this study, implications were presented on the factors that a company must have for the success of new products/services.
The purpose of this study is to verify the influence of SME members' motivation and creative working environment on innovative behavior and to see differences according to individual absorptive capacity. As a research method for this, 350 copies were collected by requesting a specialized research company for employees who have worked at SMEs for more than a year, and research models and hypotheses were verified with SPSS 28 and Smart PLS 3. As a result of the study, approach motivation and creative work environment had a positive effect on individual innovation behavior, which showed significant differences according to individual absorptive capacity. The implications of this study are summarized as follows. First, for innovative organizational management in SMEs where human resources are more important than physical resources, SMEs need to provide a creative working environment and motivate members to derive positive innovative behavior. Second, innovation behavior differs depending on personal absorptive capacity, and innovation behavior becomes the subject of corporate growth, indicating that various interests and support are needed to increase personal absorptive capacity along with positive motivation for members.
Startups lack resources and manpower to build internal capabilities to strengthen market competitiveness; external cooperation such as joint research and networking plays is important. In this study, we analyzed the effect of startups' industry-university cooperation on organizational learning capability and innovation performance. Empirical results demonstrate the mechanism by which government R&D investment strengthens organizational learning capability and creates innovative results by promoting cooperation between startups and universities. First, industry-university cooperation strengthened organizational learning capability. An empirical analysis shows that startups increase internal capabilities through external cooperation. Second, startups' organizational learning capability had a significant effect on innovation performance. We analyze how organizations with high learning capabilities positively develop corporate innovation performance by having a culture of discovery and sharing new ideas. Finally, industry-university cooperation had different effects on organizational learning capability and innovation performance according to the previous experiences of startup founders. In particular, small- and medium-sized (startup) businesses and individual-based experience groups positively affected the creation of organizational learning capabilities and innovation performance through industry-university cooperation. Small- and medium-sized businesses and individual founders have a relatively small cooperative network with the outside world compared to founders of large companies, universities, and research institutes; therefore, they strengthen organizational learning capabilities through cooperation with universities. This study demonstrates that government should create policy inducements for cooperation with universities to maximize the R&D performance of startups. Criticism exists that lending support to startups and universities will hinder innovation performance; nevertheless, government investment plays a role in expanding intangible resources such as accumulating technologies, fostering high-quality human resources, and strengthening innovation networks. Therefore, the government should appropriately utilize the its authority to strengthen investment strategies for startup growth.
Lately, recognition of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been changing. CSR turned out to be a powerful tool which a company incorporates to improve its image. Nowadays, it is no longer an option, but a shared sense which is a source of corporate growth and competitiveness. CSR has changed with times and the economic environment, especially as the global value chain (GVC) came to be more vital, it became accepted as an effective means of growth strategy for small and medium exporters. For SMEs exporters, participating in GVC requires that they meet international standards for CSR demanded by global enterprises. Reflecting this trend, exporters should strive to achieve both goals of social responsibility fulfillment and efficient growth through CSR activities. As one of the key measures for a sustainable growth of an organization, the following are the policy implications. First, it is necessary to establish a national organization dedicated to CSR for small businesses. The central government should establish an organization which is exclusively responsible for CSR of SMEs and oversee the task of CSR of small businesses. Second, the development and verification of the CSV evaluation model should be promoted. The international trend of CSR should be promptly spread out to individual firms and supported to maximize economic effects through consultancy. Third, it should be linked to global advancement. CSR reports by small and mid-size businesses will have to be written to ensure that they have a real effect on the global value chain.
Intellectual Property(IP) investment and its management are an key driver to create corporate value and intangible asset value through corporate's competitiveness. The purposes of this study are to survey capability of IP management and assess the effects of IP investment and its management on the separation into groups of intangible asset value. In order to attain those purposes of this study, sample companies were taken and categorized into three groups by the level of intangible asset value ratio, and data for IP investment such as R&D expenditure and advertising expenditure were collected from 90 manufacturing companies, and data for IP management capability about patent, design and brand were taken through survey. The final results showed as followed: First, IP management capability were generally not sufficient in the results of survey. Second, mean vector for the four variables were significantly different among three groups in multivariate analysis variance. Third, the order of their contribution to separating the groups were R&D expenditure, advertising expenditure, patent management, management of design and brand in canonical variate analysis. Fourth, R&D and patent management capability were significantly related to the separation of three groups, while advertising expenditure were not significant and management of design and brand were not sure of Significance in multinomial logit discriminant analysis. Fifth, exploratory power of the discriminant model were estimated by 53% in classification analysis. Finally, strategic policy for IP investment and its management should be taken urgently to create intangible asset value and to improve the capability of its management.
This paper examines the relationship between ownership structure and the intensity of R&D expenditures of a firm by analyzing the panel data composed of 553 manufacturing firms in KSE(Korea Stock Exchange) and KOSDAQ listed firms for the period of 2007-2014. The major findings are as follows; (1) Regarding the relationship between CEO stockholding and R&D intensity, we find the inverted-U shape relationship in KOSDAQ firms, consistent with the theoretical discussion and empirical studies on U.S. firms. The result suggests that management stockholding reduces agency problem at the R&D margin. On the contrary, the insignificant result in KSE firms seems to be due to the scant stockholding of most 'non-owner' CEOs. (2) Regarding the relationship between the largest shareholder's portion and R&D intensity, KSE firms exhibit negatively significant relationship, suggesting the existence of serious agency problem between the largest shareholder and the minor shareholders. This agency problem seems to be alleviated in KOSDAQ firms mainly because the founders with technology expertise are still in charge of the business. (3) Foreign investors seem to fail in effectively encouraging R&D expenditures in either KSE or KOSDAQ listed firms. This study contributes to the existing literature by showing for the first time that ownership structure affects R&D activities in different ways between KSE and KOSDAQ firms.
