  • This paper describes ozone concentration and discharge characteristics in flowing $O_2$ with variation of Re at high voltage nozzle(HVN). HVN type ozonizer is equipped with ten nozzle. The important conclusions obtained from this paper are as follows. For constant pulse width(Pw) and pulse frequency(Pf) the more Re increases, the higher corona onset voltage(Vc) rise. Vc is inversely proportional to Pw and Pf. Ozone concentration($O_{3con}$) increases with less Re for constant Pw and Pf. $O_{3con}$ increases with less Pw. $O_{3con}$ is proportional to Pf.

  • $SO_2$and CO gas removal characteristics of a wire-to-cylinder type nonthermal discharge plasma reactor in various applied voltage (-dc, ac, fast rising pulse and high frequency pulse) and a crossed dc magnetic field have been investigated. The experiment has been emphasized on the oxidizing characteristics of $SO_2$ and CO gas by $O_3$ and the applying of a crossed magnetic field, which would induce the cyclotronic and drift motions of electrons making the residual time longer in the removal airgap space. And it also would enhance the energy of electrons and the electrophysicochemical actions to remove the pollutant gases effectively. It is found thatthe corona onset voltage and the breakdown voltage were decreased with increasing the crossed magnetic field and decrease initial fed $SO_2$and CO concentration. As a result, a higher ozone generation and $SO_2$ and CO gas removal rate of 20[%] can be obtained with -dc, ac and fast rising pulse corona discharges in the crossed dc current-induced magnetic field. But high frequency pulse didn't show effect in applying of a crossed magnetic field.

  • In this paper we describe discharge characteristics between needle-to-plane electrodes in water in various conditions such as different impulse voltages, polarities and water resistivities. Streamer corona is initiated at the tip of needle electrode and propagates toward plane electrode, and it experiences the final jump across the test gap. The branched channels of streamer coronas for lower water resistivities are much thicker and brighter than those for higher water resistivities at the same level of applied voltage. The negative streamer coronas not only have more branches but also widely spread out compared to the positive streamer coronas. A number of pulse-like currents ranging from some hundreds mA to a few A after streamer corona onset were produced with discharge developments. The time-lags-to breakdown for the positive polarity were remarkably shorter than those for the negative polarity. The pre-breakdown energy supplied into the test gap was inversely proportional to water resistivity.

  • An air/quartz dielectric double barrier pulse discharge has been investigated to develop a novel si lent type ozone generator. It is found that there are very active pulsed coronas occurred in the airgap which are very useful for ozone generation. And, the corona onset voltage of the airgap of the air/quartz double barrier was enfluenced greatly by the airgap of the air/quartz dielectric double barrier, and depended greatly upon the airgap ranged of $0.0{\sim}3.0mm$ and by the quartz tube thickness ranged of $1.75{\sim}2.25mm$.

  • This study compared the collection efficiency of a two-stage electrostatic precipitator (ESP) with a lightweight PET film-coated carbon electrode collector plate, depending on the relative humidity of the exhaust gas and the applied voltage to the pre-charger. It was confirmed that the onset voltage at which corona discharge occurs decreases and the discharge current decreases at the same voltage as the relative humidity increases. On the other hand, even though there was almost no change in the diameter of the particles generated depending on the relative humidity, the efficiency was higher at the same voltage as the relative humidity increased. In addition, by applying a two-stage ESP structure, the collection efficiency was higher than that of a single-stage electrostatic precipitator under the same conditions. The ESP using the carbon electrode coated with PET film used in this study is expected to be effective in various aspects such as weight and in the current situation where environmental regulations are rapidly tightening.
