  • Mobile virtualization is an approach to mobile device management in which two virtual platforms are installed on a single wireless device. A smartphone, a single wireless device, might have one virtual environment for business use and one for personal use. Mobile virtualization might also allow one device to run two different operating systems, allowing the same phone to run both RTOS and Android apps. In this paper, we propose the techniques to virtualize the cores of a multicore, allowing the reassign any number of vCPUs that are exposed to a OS to any subset of the pCPUs. And then we also propose the real-time scheduling method to assigning the vCPUs to the pCPU. Suggested technology in this paper solves problem that increases time of real-time process when interrupt are handled, and is able more to fast processing than previous algorithm.

Numerical study of steel sandwich plates with RPF and VR cores materials under free air blast loads

  • One of the most important design criteria in military tunnels and armoured doors is to resist the blast loads with minimum structural weight. This can be achieved by using steel sandwich panels. In this paper, the nonlinear behaviour of steel sandwich panels, with different core materials: (1) Hollow (no core material); (2) Rigid Polyurethane Foam (RPF); and (3) Vulcanized Rubber (VR) under free air blast loads, was investigated using detailed 3D nonlinear finite element models in Ansys Autodyn. The accuracy of the finite element model proposed was verified using available experimental test data of a similar steel sandwich panel tested. The results show the developed finite element model can be reliably used to simulate the nonlinear behaviour of the steel sandwich panels under free air blast loads. The verified finite element model was used to examine the different parameters of the steel sandwich panel with different core materials. The result shows that the sandwich panel with RPF core material is more efficient than the VR sandwich panel followed by the Hollow sandwich panels. The average maximum displacement of RPF sandwich panel under different ranges of TNT charge (1 kg to 10 kg at a standoff distance of 1 m) is 49% and 53% less than the VR and Hollow sandwich panels, respectively. Detailed empirical design equations were provided to quantify the maximum deformation of the steel sandwich panels with different core materials and core thickness under a different range of blast loads. The developed equations can be used as a guide for engineer to design steel sandwich panels with RPF and VR core material under a different range of free air blast loads.

Runtime Prediction Based on Workload-Aware Clustering (병렬 프로그램 로그 군집화 기반 작업 실행 시간 예측모형 연구)

  • Several fields of science have demanded large-scale workflow support, which requires thousands of CPU cores or more. In order to support such large-scale scientific workflows, high capacity parallel systems such as supercomputers are widely used. In order to increase the utilization of these systems, most schedulers use backfilling policy: Small jobs are moved ahead to fill in holes in the schedule when large jobs do not delay. Since an estimate of the runtime is necessary for backfilling, most parallel systems use user's estimated runtime. However, it is found to be extremely inaccurate because users overestimate their jobs. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel system for the runtime prediction based on workload-aware clustering with the goal of improving prediction performance. The proposed method for runtime prediction of parallel applications consists of three main phases. First, a feature selection based on factor analysis is performed to identify important input features. Then, it performs a clustering analysis of history data based on self-organizing map which is followed by hierarchical clustering for finding the clustering boundaries from the weight vectors. Finally, prediction models are constructed using support vector regression with the clustered workload data. Multiple prediction models for each clustered data pattern can reduce the error rate compared with a single model for the whole data pattern. In the experiments, we use workload logs on parallel systems (i.e., iPSC, LANL-CM5, SDSC-Par95, SDSC-Par96, and CTC-SP2) to evaluate the effectiveness of our approach. Comparing with other techniques, experimental results show that the proposed method improves the accuracy up to 69.08%.

Annealing Effects of Amorphous Cores for the Application of Flux-gate Sensors (Flux-gate 센서용 비정질 코아의 열처리효과)

  • Flux-gate magnetometer was developed in 1930's, and it has been widely used for the low magnetic field measurements. In this work, we have employed amorphous ribbon 2714A produced by Allied Chem. Co. as sensor core material. To develop low noise, low power consumption, and high reliability flux-gate magnetometer, we have measured ac magnetic properties depending on the annealing conditions. As quenched state amorphous core shows high noise level and ac magnetic properties were changed under the condition of accelerated aging test, but amorphous ribbon, which was annealed under 350 $\^{C}$ during 1 hour, shows low noise level of 0.1 nT in the frequency range of dc∼10 Hz which was 10 times better than the as quenched amorphous ribbon. Under accelerated aging test, ac magnetic properties such as squareness and coercivity of the annealed samples show higher reliability and approached to a certain limiting value as exponential function. We can see that high reliability and low noise flux-gate magnetometer could be developed, if we consider this ac magnetic properties change in the sensor design.

An Efficient Architecture of Transform & Quantization Module in MPEG-4 Video Code (MPEG-4 영상코덱에서 DCTQ module의 효율적인 구조)

  • In this paper, an efficient VLSI architecture for DCTQ module, which consists of 2D-DCT, quantization, AC/DC prediction block, scan conversion, inverse quantization and 2D-IDCT, is presented. The architecture of the module is designed to handle a macroblock data within 1064 cycles and suitable for MPEG-4 video codec handling 30 frame CIF image for both encoder and decoder simultaneously. Only single 1-D DCT/IDCT cores are used for the design instead of 2-D DCT/IDCT, respectively. 1-bit serial distributed arithmetic architecture is adopted for 1-D DCT/IDCT to reduce the hardware area in this architecture. To reduce the power consumption of DCTQ modu1e, we propose the method not to operate the DCTQ modu1e exploiting the SAE(sum of absolute error) value from motion estimation and cbp(coded block pattern). To reduce the AC/DC prediction memory size, the memory architecture and memory access method for AC/DC prediction block is proposed. As the result, the maximum utilization of hardware can be achieved, and power consumption can be minimized. The proposed design is operated on 27MHz clock. The experimental results show that the accuracy of DCT and IDCT meet the IEEE specification.

  • It is a widespread concern that electrical interconnection based network-on-chip (NoC) will ultimately face the limitation in communication bandwidth, transmission latency and power consumption in the near future. With the development of silicon photonics technology, a hybrid optical network-on-chip (HONoC) which embraces both electrical- and optical interconnect, is emerging as a promising solution to overcome these problems. Today's leading edge systems-on-chips (SoCs) comprise heterogeneous many-cores for higher energy efficiency, therefore, extended study beyond regular topology based NoC is required. This paper proposes an energy and latency optimization topology design technique for HONoC taking into account the traffic characteristics of target applications. The proposed technique is implemented with genetic algorithm and simulation results show the reduction by 13.84% in power loss and 28.14% in average latency, respectively.

Measuring ultrasonic TOF using Zynq baremetal Multiprocessing (Zynq 기반 baremetal 멀티프로세싱에 의한 초음파 TOF 측정)

  • In this research the TOF (time of flight) of ultrasonic signal is measured using Xilinx's Zynq SoC (system on chip). The TOF is calculated from the difference between periods during which RF (radio frequency) and ultrasonic signals come across a distance, and then travelling distance is obtained by multiplying the TOF by the ultrasonic speed in the air. For this purpose, a ultrasonic pulse is generated from a Zynq's internal ADC, a FIR (finite impulse response) filter, and a Kalman filter. And a RF reference pulse is generated from a RF interface. Based on baremetal multiprocessing, the Kalman filter and the RF interface are c-programmed on Zynq's dual processor cores, with other components fabricated on Zynq's FPGA. With this HW/SW co-design, both lower resource utilization and much smaller designing period were obtained than the HW design. As a design tool, Vivado IDE(integrated design environment) is used to design the whole signal processing system in hierarchical block diagrams.

Construction of a Fluxgate Magnetometer for the Measurment of Magnetic Field Difference (자기장 차이 측정용 플럭스게이트 마그네토미터 제작)

  • In order to measure magnetic field difference, we have constructed a fluxgate magnetometer which is based on the measurement of apparent coreci ve field strength from the magnetizing current of two sensors. 'Co-based amorphous ribbon, which has square shape of ac hysteresis loop, was used as core material. Two sensors have 315 turns of the primary and the secondary windings respectively, and core size of 2 mm wide and 30 mm long. The primary windings are connected parallel to measure external magnetic field difference and the secondary windings serieally for the averaged magnetic induction of the cores. The constructed magnetometer could measure magnetic field difference with sensitivity of $1.6{\times}10^{6}V/T$ and resolution of 1 nT at 1 Hz bandwidth.

Calculation of Power Distributions on Uranium- and Plutonium-Loaded Cores Moderated by Light Water (우라늄 및 플루토늄 장전 노심에서의 출력 분포 계산)

  • An analytical system has been established for scrutinizing both uranium- and plutonium-fueled lattices moderated by light water. This system consists of two primary codes. One is a unit cell program called KICC, which has theoretical foundation on the models of GAM and THERMOS incorporated with appropriate approximate treatments for various phenomena, whereas the other is a multi-dimensional diffusion-depletion program entitled KIDD. The adequacy of this system is verified by performing extensive benchmark calculations on a variety of critical experiments. The average value of effective multiplication factors for the selected nineteen UO$_2$ critical experiments of heterogeneous lattice structure is calculated to be 1.0006 with a standard deviation of 0.0039. Power distributions have also been calculated for some critical experiments fueled with both uranium and plutonium of varying concentrations. The maximum percentage difference between the measured and calculated power distributions appears to be less than 5%. This result, together with the previously reported result, illustrates that the KICC/KIDD system is a very effective tool for the analysis of a light water reactor core.

Physical and Chemical Characteristics of Sediments at Bam Islands in Seoul, Korea

  • To examine sediment characteristics and find anthropogenic effects on riverine wetland ecosystems, paleoecological study was carried out at Bam islands in Seoul. Three hundred cm deep sediment cores were retrieved and dated with the lamination analysis method until 36 cm depth (1986). Sediments were divided into three zones based on the depth profiles of physico-chemical variables: below 160 cm depth (before 1968), between 160 and 40cm depths and above 40cm depth (after 1986). Physico-chemical characteristics were very variable between 160 and 40cm depths and this indicates unstable sedimentation environment. Even though heavy metal concentrations were relatively low, Cd and As contents have increased continuously. Dry mass accumulation rates during $1968{\sim}1986\;and\;1987{\sim}2003$ were 140 and $21\;kg\;m^{-2}\;yr^{-1}$, respectively. This was related to flooding intensity and duration. Bulk density, water content, loss on ignition, N, C, C/N ratio were very similar to other river delta but Ca, Na and K contents were 2 to 4 times higher than others. Heavy metal contents except Pb were lower or similar to those in other studied marshes in Korea. Heavy metal and Mg contents were correlated with each other and this suggests that the source of heavy metals be parent rock. From $^{13}C$ dating dates of organic materials in sediment, it is suggested that organic matter originated from the watershed and flooding intensity in the watershed might be responsible for the source of sediments. This study provides reference data for the comparison of sediment characteristics at islands in river and for the management of Bam islands.
