In electrical power substations, bulky iron-core potential transformers (PTs) are installed in a tank of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) to measure system voltages. This paper proposed a low-power voltage transformer (LPVT) that can replace the conventional iron-core PTs in response to the demand for the digitalization of substations. The prototype LPVT consists of a capacitive voltage divider (CVD) which is embedded in a spacer and an impedance matching circuit using passive components. The CVD was fabricated with a flexible PCB to acquire enough insulation performance and withstand vibration and shock during operation. The performance of the LPVT was evaluated at 80%, 100%, and 120% of the rated voltage (38.1 kV) according to IEC 61869-11. An accuracy correction algorithm based on LabVIEW was applied to correct the voltage ratio and phase error. The corrected voltage ratio and phase error were +0.134% and +0.079 min., respectively, which satisfies the accuracy CL 0.2. In addition, the voltage ratio of LPVT was analyzed in ranges of -40~+40℃, and a temperature correction coefficient was applied to maintain the accuracy CL 0.2. By applying the LPVT proposed in this paper to the same rating GIS, it can be reduced the length per GIS bay by 11%, and the amount of SF6 by 5~7%.
The traditional silicon heterojunction solar cells consist of intrinsic amorphous silicon to prevent recombination of the silicon surface and doped amorphous silicon to transport the photo-generated electrons and holes to the electrode. Back contact solar cells with silicon heterojunction exhibit very high open-circuit voltages, but the complexity of the process due to form the emitter and base at the backside must be addressed. In order to solve this problem, the structure, manufacturing method, and new materials enabling the carrier selective contact (CSC) solar cell capable of achieving high efficiency without using a complicated structure have recently been actively developed. CSC solar cells minimize carrier recombination on metal contacts and effectively transfer charge. The CSC structure allows very low levels of recombination current (eg, Jo < 9fA/cm2), thereby achieves high open-circuit voltage and high efficiency. This paper summarizes the core technology of CSC solar cell, which has been spotlighted as the next generation technology, and is aiming to speed up the research and development in this field.

A newly designed inductive micro displacement detecting system is presented. The proposed inductive system consists of driving coils, position-detecting coils, cores, and closed-loop formed magnetic blocks. The cores and magnetic blocks are made of Mn-Zn ferrite. When AC sine wave is applied to the driving coils, the time derivative flux is generated within the system, and then induced voltages arise in the position-detecting coils according to the core\`s position. Putting the cores to be moved proportionally to the input displacement, the induced voltage is proportional to input displacement. The parameters that affect the system characteristics are turn ratio, air-gap size, excitation frequency, overlap area, load resistance, capacitance effect, and so forth. Based on the experimental results, the system parameters are selected in such a way as to have high sensitivity ad stable responses. The sensitivity of the proposed inductive displacement-detecting system is greater than 2800mV.V-1mm-1 and the linearity error is below $\pm$0.10% in the range of $\pm$200㎛.

To assess the condition of stator insulation, nondestructive tests were performed on twenty five coil groups and twenty six motors. The stator windings has nominal ratings of 6.6kV and are classified into five coil groups ;one group with healthy insulation and four groups with four different types of artificial defects. After completing nondestructive tests, the AC voltage applied to the stator windings was gradually increasing until insulation failure in order to obtain the breakdown voltage. No.1, No.2 and No.6 of 6.6kV motors failed near rated voltage of 14kV, 8.7kV and 14kV, respectively. The breakdown voltage of three motors was lower that expected for good quality coils(14.2kV) in 6.6kV motors. No.3 and No.6 of 4.16kV motors failed near rated voltage of 5.6kV and 4.2kV, respectively. Almost all of failures were located in a line-end coil at the exit from the core slot. The breakdown voltages and the types of defects showed strong relation to the stator insulation tests such as in the case of AC current, dissipation factor(tan${\delta}$) and partial discharge magnitude.

In order to increase the capacity of the superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL), the current and voltage grades of the SFCL must be increased. As a method for the increase of the current and voltage grades of the SFCL, we compared the various characteristics between the flux-lock type SFCL "With three superconducting units connected in series and the transformer type SFCL using the transformer with three secondary circuits. One of three superconducting units had not quenched in the flux-lock type SFCL. Therefore, the unbalanced power burden happened because of the voltage difference generated by unbalanced quenching between the superconducting units. In the meantime, the three superconducting units were all quenched in the transformer type SFCL using the transformer, and the voltage difference generated between the superconducting units was decreased. Therefore, the difference of critical characteristics was complemented by distribution of fault current in accordance with the turn's ratio between primary and secondary windings. The unbalanced power burden of the superconducting units was reduced due to flux-share between the superconducting units in the transformer. In conclusion, the capacity increment of the SFCL using a transformer was easier due to equal distribution of voltages generated by simultaneous quench of the superconducting units. We think that the characteristics is improved more because of the decrease of saturation in the iron core if the secondary winding is increased in the SFCL using the transformer.

The high temperature superconductor transformers gain interests from the industries. This paper described construction and test results of 10㎸A HTS transformer Three phase transformer with double pancake windings were constructed. To reduce the leakage magnetic field, secondary coil were placed between the two primary coils. BSCCO-2223 wire. silicon sheet steel core and FRP cryostats were used to construct the transformer. Three coils were stacked in one cryostat. Two double pancake coils were connected in series for the primary coil and one double pancake coil was used for the secondary coil. Total number of turns of the primary winding and the secondary winding were 112turns and 98urns, respectively, The rated voltages of each winding were 440/220V. The rated currents of each winding were 13.1/26.2A. After the tests of basic properties of the three phase HTS transformer using no-load test, short-circuit test and full-load test, continuous operation of 100 hours with pure resistive load has been carried out. Test results proved over-load capability and reliability of the HTS transformer.

DC/DC converters are commonly used to generate regulated DC output voltages with high-power efficiencies from different DC input sources. The converters can be applied in the regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back to the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems at periodic intervals. The fundamental converter studied here consists of an IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar mode Transistor), an inductor, a capacitor, a diode, a PWM-IC (Pulse Width Modulation Integrated Circuit) controller with oscillator, amplifier, and comparator. The PWM-IC is a core element and delivers the switching waveform to the gate of the IGBT in a stable manner. Display of the DC/DC converter output depends on the IGBT's changes in the threshold voltage and PWM-IC's pulse width. The simulation was conducted by PSIM software, and the hardware of the DC/DC converter was also implemented. It is necessary to study the fact that the output voltage depends on the duty rate of D, and to compare the output of experimental result with the theory and the simulation.

To assess the condition of stator insulation, nondestructive and overpotential tests were performed on four high voltage motors. The stator windings under these tests have nominal ratings of 6.6 kV. After completing nondestructive tests, the AC overvoltage applied to the stator windings was gradually increasing until insulation failure in order to obtain the breakdown voltage. No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 of 6.6 kV motors failed near rated voltage of 18.4 kV, 19.8 kV, 19.7 kV and 21.7 kV, respectively. The breakdown voltage of four motors was higher that expected for good quality coils(14.2 kV) in 6.6 kV motors. Almost all of failures were located in a line-end coil at the exit from the core slot. The breakdown voltages and the types of defects showed strong relation to the stator insulation tests such as in the case of AC current, dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$) and partial discharge magnitude.
The piezoelectric transverse $d_{15}$ shear sensing mechanism is firstly assessed experimentally for a cantilever smart sandwich plate made of a piezoceramic axially poled patched core and glass fiber reinforced polymer composite faces. Different electrical connections are tested for the assessment of the sensor performance under a varying amplitude harmonic (at 24 Hz) force. Also, the dynamic response of the smart sandwich composite structure is monitored using different acquisition devices. The obtained experimentally sensed voltages are compared to those resulting from the benchmark three-dimensional piezoelectric coupled finite element simulations using a commercial code where realistic features, like equipotential conditions on the patches' electrodes and mechanical updating of the clamp, are considered. Numerically, it is found that the stiffness of the clamp, which is much softer than the ideal one, has an enormous influence on the sensed voltage of its adjacent patch; therefore, sensing with the patch on the free side would be more advantageous for a cantilever configuration. Apart from confirming the latter result, the plate benchmark experimental assessment showed that the parallel connection of its two oppositely poled patches has a moderate performance but better than the clamp side patch acting as an individual sensor.

Buckling and free vibration analysis of sandwich micro plate (SMP) integrated with piezoelectric layers embedded in orthotropic Pasternak are investigated in this paper. The refined Zigzag theory (RZT) is taken into consideration to model the SMP. Four different types of functionally graded (FG) distribution through the thickness of the SMP core layer which is reinforced with single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are considered. The modified couple stress theory (MCST) is employed to capture the effects of small scale effects. The sandwich structure is exposed to a two dimensional magnetic field and also, piezoelectric layers are subjected to external applied voltages. In order to obtain governing equation, energy method as well as Hamilton's principle is applied. Based on an analytical solution the critical buckling loads and natural frequency are obtained. The effects of volume fraction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), different distributions of CNTs, foundation stiffness parameters, magnetic and electric fields, small scale parameter and the thickness of piezoelectric layers on the both critical buckling loads and natural frequency of the SMP are examined. The obtained results demonstrate that the effects of volume fraction of CNTs play an important role in analyzing buckling and free vibration behavior of the SMP. Furthermore, the effects of magnetic and electric fields are remarkable on the mechanical responses of the system and cannot be neglected.
