  • The binary mixture consists of two types of granular media with different physical attributes and sizes, which can be characterized by the percentage of large granules by weight (P) and the particle size ratio (${\alpha}$). Researchers determine that two thresholds ($P_S$ and $P_L$) exist for the peak shear strength of binary mixtures, i.e., at $P{\leq}P_S$, the peak shear strength is controlled by the small granules; at $P{\leq}P_L$, the peak shear strength is controlled by the large granules; at $P_S{\leq}P{\leq}P_L$, the peak shear strength is governed by both the large and small granules. However, the thresholds of binary mixtures with different ${\alpha}$ values, and the explanation related to the inner details of binary mixtures to account for why these thresholds exist, require further confirmation. This paper considers the mechanical behavior of binary mixtures with DEM analysis. The thresholds of binary mixtures are found to be strongly related to their coordination numbers $Z_L$ for all values of ${\alpha}$, where $Z_L$ denotes the partial coordination number only between the large particles. The arrangement structure of the large particles is examined when P approaches the thresholds, and a similar arrangement structure of large particles is formed in both 2D and 3D particle systems.

  • A problem of task rescheduling using a coordinator in a structural decentralized control of supervisory control theory is formulated. we consider that the overall system is divided into a number of local systems. Using an example of a chemical batch reaction process, it has shown that after local supervisors have been established for a given task, a coordinator can be used to solve some rescheduling problems among local plants for new or modified tasks. The coordination system models the interactions of local plants, and is consisting of only the shared events of local plants, so simpler to synthesize. A coordinator is designed based on the specifications given for the coordination system. Under the 'structural' conditions developed in this paper, the combined concurrent actions of the coordinator with the existing local supervisors will achieve the rescheduling requirements. Again since the conditions are structural (not specification-dependent), once the coordination architecture has been established, it can be used for a number of different tasks without further verifications.

  • The paper presents a new multidisciplinary design optimization architecture using optimal sensitivity and coordination of interdisciplinary design variables. Original design problem is decomposed into a number of sub-problems that represent individual engineering analysis. The coupled effects between sub-problems are computed by interdisciplinary design variables. System level coordination is determined by optimal parameter sensitivity calculated by finite difference method. The proposed. MDO strategy is applied to a simplified model of rotorcraft blade design associated with structures and aerodynamic disciplines.

  • Recently, There has been growing interest in new renewable energy systems with high-energy efficiency due to the increasing energy consumption and environmental pollution problems, but an insertion of new renewable energy systems to existing power distribution systems can cause several problems such as voltage variations, harmonics, protective coordination, increasing fault current etc, because of reverse power. This paper was applied to Sukumar M, Brahma, A. Girgis[1] proposal schemes and identilys the faulted section performing short-circuit analysis by MATLAB programs to 22.9[kV] distribution system interconnected a large number of new renewable energy system and was analyzed on protective coordination between reclose and Sectionalizer.

  • This paper presents a decentralized coordination for a small-scale mobile robot teams performing a task through cooperation. Robot teams are required to generate and maintain various geometric patterns adapting to an environment and/or a task in many cooperative applications. In particular, all robots must continue to strive toward achieving the team's mission even if some members fail to perform their role. Toward this end, given the number of robots in a team, an effective coordination is investigated for decentralized formation control strategies. Specifically, all members are required first to reach agreement on their coordinate system and have an identifier (ID) for role assignment in a self-organizing way. Then, employing IDs on individual robots within a common coordinate system, a decentralized neighbor-referenced formation control is realized to generate, keep, and switch between different geometric shapes. This approach is verified using an in-house simulator and physical mobile robots. We detail and evaluate the formation control approach, whose common features include self-organization, robustness, and flexibility.

  • The use of chemicals is increasing due to industrial advancement and diversification. In addition, the number of chemical accidents are increasing at the same time. A multifaceted effort in chemical accidents is needed for efficient prevention and countermeasures. This paper presents, under the current Act, a chemical accident case, including the material safety data sheet (MSDS) through the chemical accident prevention and measures for improvement with regard to research.

  • On May 12th, 2007 a merchant vessel of Golden Rose (South Korea) sank into near 38 mile from Yentai in China after the vessel collided with a container vessel of Jinsung (China), leaving all 16 sailors, including seven South Koreans, missing. According to the official report. The Chinese vessel, authorities, and South Korean government did not coordination q rescue and salvage for the sailors and vessel properly as follows: 1) The Chinese vessel left the scene without rescue and salvage of the sailors, 2) Chinese authorities failed to comply with law of the sea that required them to report the collision to South Korea immediately after confirming the accident, and 3) The South Korean government is also being criticized for its slow response to the incident since the government did not set up a response team until 21 hours after the incident. In order to reduce this number of sailor missing in future incidents, this research is studied regarding assembling conferences, assigning SRR in ASEAN+3, simplicity to enter other territory waters and cooperative training and education for the SAR.

  • The number of people with chronic diseases has been increasing steadily but the indicators for the management of chronic diseases have not improved significantly. To improve the existing chronic disease management system, a new policy will be introduced, which includes the establishment of care plans for hypertension and diabetes patients by primary care physicians and the provision of care coordination services based on these plans. Care coordination refers to a series of activities to assist patients and their families and it has been known to be effective in reducing medical costs and avoiding the unnecessary use of the hospital system by individuals. To offer well-coordinated and high-quality care services, it is necessary to develop a service quality assurance plan, track and manage patients, provide patient support, agree on patient referral and transition, and develop an effective information system. Local governance should be established for chronic disease management, and long-term plans and continuous quality improvement are necessary.
