  • In this paper, we propose an improved method of differentiated curriculum in social studies class that can be immediately used in the class. There are two major reasons that differentiated curriculum has not been applied to actual educational programs. One reason is the inefficient progress of differentiated curriculum derived from students' self-study based on individual projects and teacher's excessive investment of time in the development and management of individual researches. The other attribute is the difficulty in distinguishing students' academic level due to the lake of distinct criteria, because students are classified into merely two groups, in-depth group and supplementary class. To cope with these problems, we adopted a cooperative learning to enhance the educational effect of students of the similar level. Experimental results validate that the proposed method is effective in the course of social studies.

  • Asynchronous Learning Networks (ALN) has become a kind of prevalent information systems to supplement or even substitute a traditional classroom face-to-face teaching method. In this paper, we investigate the impacts of types of courses, lecturers' instruction models and computer self-efficacy on the ALN effectiveness in teaching from lecturers' perspective. We conducted survey to professors in various faculties such as School of Computing, Faculty of Arts, Science, Business, Law and Engineering in the National University of Singapore. According to the responses from ninety-eight professors, instruction modes positively influence the usage of ALN; types of course and lecturers' computer-efficacy influence lectures' satisfaction of ALN in teaching. Both the usage of ALN and satisfaction of ALN positively influence the effectiveness of ALN. The results of this study fill the gap of ALN researches in education by examining it from lecturers' perspective and enable schools to improve their implementation of ALN systems based on our findings.

  • This study constructed an experiment group and a comparative group, composed of high school students preparing for "Na" type math exam and provided one-to-many tutoring cooperative learning. This study tested the differences between group and between pre- and post-treatment scores by group using non-parametric statistics techniques. Moreover, this study conducted an open-type survey twice and had individual interviews to examine the affective domains of students. The difference in scores between the experimental group and the comparative group was not significant. However, the difference between pre- and post-treatment math scores was only significant in the experiment group among the three groups. Additionally, the student-teacher could reflect on him or her and improve self-efficacy while teaching other ordinary students. The ordinary students were more interested and motivated in the lessons and became more confident. In terms of mathematics competency, we could see that communication, problem-solving, reasoning, and attitude & practice were improved.
