Three-dimensional endwall flow within a linear cascade passage of high performance turbine blade is simulated with a 3-D Wavier-Stokes CFD code (MOSA3D), which is based on body-fitted coordinate system, pressure-correction and finite volume method. The endwall flow characteristics, including the development and generation of horseshoe vortex, passage vortex, etc. are clearly simulated, consistent with the generally known tendency. The effects of both turbulence model and convective differencing scheme on the prediction performance of endwall flow are systematically analyzed in the present paper. The convective scheme is found to have stronger effect than the turbulence model on the prediction performance of endwall flow. The present simulation result also indicates that the suction leg of the horseshoe vortex continues on the suction side until it reaches the trailing edge.

Incompressible flow over a backward-facing step is computed by low Reynolds number turbulence models in order to compare with direct simulation results. In this study, selected low Reynolds number 1st and 2nd (Algebraic Stress Model : ASM) moment closure turbulence models are adopted and compared with each other. Each turbulence model predicts different flow characteristics, different re-attachment point, velocity profiles and Reynolds stress distribution etc. Results by .kappa.-.epsilon. turbulence models indicate that predicted re-attachment lengths are shorter than those by standard model. Turbulent intensity and eddy viscosity by low Reynolds number .kappa.-.epsilon. models are still greater than DNS results. The results by algebraic stress model (ASM) are more reasonable than those by .kappa.-.epsilon. models. The convective scheme is QUICK (Quadratic Upstream Interpolation for Convective Kinematics) and SIMPLE algorithm is adopted. Reynolds number based on step height and inlet free stream velocity is 5100.

Acoustic streaming Induced by longitudinal vibration at 30 kHz is visualized for a test fluid flow between the stationary glass plate and ultrasonic vibrating surface with particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) To measure an increase in the velocity of air flow due to acoustic streaming, the velocity of air flow in a gap between the heat source and ultrasonic vibrator is obtained quantitatively using PIV. The ultrasonic wave propagating into air in the gap generates steady-state secondary vortex called acoustic streaming which enhances convective cooling of the stationary heat source. Heat transfer through air in the gap is represented by experimental convective heat transfer coefficient with respect to the gap. Theoretical analysis shows that gaps for maximum heat transfer enhancement are the multiple of half wavelength. Optimal gaps for the actual design are experimentally found to be half wavelength and one wavelength. A drastic temperature variation exists for the local axial direction of the vibrator according to the measurement of the temperature distribution in the gap. The acoustic streaming velocity of the test fluid in the gap is at maximum when the gap agrees with the multiples of half wavelength of the ultrasonic wave, which are specifically 6 mm and 12 mm.
This paper dealed with thickness variation of bottom heat sotrage zone due to salinity and flow rate of extration hot brine in small test solar pond (0.5m wide, 0.5m high, 1.0m long). Testing apparatus and situation were follows: 7.1 cm of height of suction diffuser and 1.8cm of height of discharge diffuser above the test pond respectively, 0.3cm of slot size of suction diffuser, 1.0cm of slot size of discharge diffuser, 47cm of length of the slot; heating of hot water ($75^{\circ}C$) through separated hot water tank, discharge of the brine into storage zone through discharge diffuser, the extration of the brine through suction diffuser, circulation of the extracted brine through a heat exchanger (cooler). Following results were obtained through the experiments. 1. In small test solar pond, the typical three zone which showed up in real solar pond were established. 2. Richardson Number was used more effectively to confirm hydrodynamic stability of the stratified flow. 3. The thickness of non convective layer had a great effect on the heat storage of the bottom convective layer, then the temperature of bottom convective layer had a relation to that of upper convective layer. 4. Optimum operating condition in the test pond was on 10%-15% of salt concentration and $0.05m^3/hr$ of flow rate of extraction hot brine. 5. Following thickness of 3 zones were available to obtain under optimum operation condition: o bottom storage zone: $30%{\pm}10%$ of total pond depth o non-convective zone: $40%{\pm}10%$ of total pond depth o Upper surface zone: $20%{\pm}10%$ of total pond depth.
In this paper, hydraulic & thermal developing and fully developed laminar forced convection flow of a water-$Al_2O_3$ nanofluid in a circular horizontal tube with uniform heat flux at the wall, are investigated numerically. A single phase model employed with temperature independent properties. The thermal entrance length is presented in this paper. The variations of the convective heat transfer coefficient and shear stress are shown in the entrance region and fully developed region along different nanoparticles concentration and Reynolds numbers. Convective heat transfer coefficient for nanofluids is larger than that of the base fluid. It is shown that heat transfer is enhanced and shear stress is increased as the particle volume concentration increases. The heat transfer improves, as Reynolds number increases.

This paper presents the theory of similarity transformations applied to the momentum and energy equations for laminar, forced, external boundary layer flow over a horizontal flat plate which leads to a set of non-linear, ordinary differential equations of phase change material slurry(PCM Slurry). The momentum and energy equation set numerically to obtain the non-dimensional velocity and temperature profiles in a laminar boundary layer are solved. The heat transfer characteristics of PCM slurry was numerically investigated with similar method. It is clarified that the similar solution method of Newtonian fluid can be used reasonably this type of PCM slurry which has low concentration. The data of local wall heat flux and convective heat transfer coefficient of PCM slurry are higher than those of water more than 150$\~$200$\%$, approximately.

The one-third calibrating relation by steady solution can cause large error when applied to an unsteady flow with large amplitude waves. Extended calibrating method, which can treat the normal convective contribution, is developed. The normal mass convective term is included into the 2-D mass transport equation by means of rms value and random function. The unknown shear rate is numerically determined by solving the 2-D mass transport equation inversely. This recovery method which predicts the unknown shear rate is constructed. It is found that it works very well without distortion. The inclusion of the normal convective term has a negligible effect on the mass transfer coefficient.
Numerical modeling is carried out to investigate forced convective heat transfer to near-critical water in developing laminar flow through a circular tube. Due to large variations of thermo-physical properties such as density, specific heat, viscosity, and thermal conductivity near thermodynamic critical point, heat transfer characteristics show quite different behavior compared with pure forced convection. With flow acceleration along the tube unusual behavior of heat transfer coefficient and friction factor occurs when the fluid enthalpy passes through pseudocritical point of pressure in the tube. There is also a transition behavior from liquid-like phase to gas-like phase in the developing region. Numerical results with constant heat flux boundary conditions are obtained for reduced pressures from 1.09 to 1.99. Graphical results for velocity, temperature, and heat transfer coefficient with Stanton number are presented and analyzed.
Numerical analysis has been carried out to investigate air-side convective heat transfer characteristics in compact heat exchangers with continuous plate fins. Simulation results such as air flow and temperature distributions are presented, and heat transfer characteristics are compared for various inlet conditions. Results from various turbulence models are also compared for applicability. There is large difference between the local heat transfer coefficient distributions along the cylinder wall for circular tubes. Colburn j factors from the calculated results of circular and flat tubes in the heat exchangers are compared for various Reynolds number. The predicted results in this study can be applied to the optimal design of air conditioning system. with compact heat exchanger.

Numerical analysis has been carried out to investigate laminar convective heat transfer in a tube for supercritical water near the thermodynamic critical point. Fluid flow and heat transfer are strongly coupled due to large variations of thermodynamic and transport properties such as density, specific heat, viscosity, and thermal conductivity near the critical point. Heat transfer characteristics in the developing region of the tube show transition behavior between liquid-like and gas-like phases with a peak in heat transfer coefficient distribution near the pseudocritical point. The peak of the heat transfer coefficient depends on pressure and wall heat flux rather than inlet temperature and Reynolds number, Results of the modeling provide convective heat transfer characteristics including velocity vectors, temperature, and the properties as well as the heat transfer coefficient. The effect of proximity to the critical point is considered and a heat transfer correlation is suggested for the peak of Nusselt number in the tube.
