We examined progress in oral health of Korean 5 year olds children and dental public health infrastructure since the National Health Promotion Plan 2010 Oral Health Objectives were issued. We summarize trends in the prevalence of dental caries and trends in national public oral health program activities and budget. The Oral Health Objectives were achieved in 2006. Oral health in Korean preschool children improved considerably by improving of lifestyle and consumption of fluoride containing toothpaste. Although the number of public oral health center and the budget of oral health education were increased, the impact of public oral health program for preschool children was not influential. New oral health program for infants such as fluoride varnish application and strengthening of existing public oral health program should be performed for continuing improvement of oral health in Korea.
Objectives: The objective of the study was to investigate the oral health index in orthodontic patients by dividing the patients into two groups; the OHCP (Oral Health Care Program)group and the control group. Methods: The subjects in Busan were divided into two groups, including the OHCP group (205 patients) and the control group (119 patients), during orthodontic treatment that took place from October 2015 to October 2016. The oral health index was subdivided into three groups according to the oral interest level of the OHCP and control groups. The oral health index used was Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (S-OHI) and Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN). Results: When the degree of oral interest was compared, he OHCP group before application and after application saw a significant difference (p<0.001) in all the variables except the S-DI. Meanwhile, the control group saw no significant difference in most variables. after OHCP application, The OHCP group was significant differences in all variables (p<0.001), and the control group was no significant difference in most variables. Conclusions: Oral hygiene management for orthodontic patients should be systematically and professionally programmed differently from that for general dental treatment patients. As such, dental hygienists should take this into consideration and proactively develop and research programs similar to OHCP for orthodontic patients.
The purpose of this study was to delve into the factors associated with the oral health promotion behaviors of college students. The subjects in this study were 453 students who attended three different colleges in Gyeonggi province. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with SPSSWIN 12.0 program. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Concerning the basic oral health care of college students, 54.1 percent had ever visited dental clinics over the last year, and 53.4 percent hadn't received any preventive treatment during the same period of time. 2. As to their self-perception of oral health status, 80.1 percent didn't find themselves to be in good oral health. 3. Regarding the influence of their general characteristics, their self-efficacy was statistically significantly different according to their gender (p = .022). Their control of oral health varied statistically significantly with their major(p = .000), and whether or not they smoked (p = .004) made a statistically significant difference to that as well. Their oral health knowledge differed statistically significantly with their gender (p = .000), major(p = .000) and age group(p = .000), and whether or not they smoked(p = .006) made a statistically significant difference to that as well. 4. As for correlation among the variables, better oral health promotion behaviors were found among those whose self-efficacy was higher, whose control of oral health was better and who had more knowledge on oral health. 5. Preventive treatment, control of oral health and self-efficacy were identified as the variable that affected their oral health promotion behaviors.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of oral health education for the elderly using $Qscan^{TM}$. Methods: This study was a quasi-experiment design of nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design carried out by oral health education from January 17 to March 7, 2015. The subjects were 64 elderly people over 65 years old who had more than one remaining teeth in the anterior teeth and canines living in Hongseong-gun and assigned to 33 control group and 31 intervention group. The intervention group was measured only by $Qscan^{TM}$. The educational effect between two groups were evaluated using oral health behavior, gingivitis index, and plaque index. After Institutional Review Board from Namseoul N University, the elderly people participated in the study. Results: The intervention group showed lower plaque index of percent reduction than the control group. The two groups showed a significant difference in gingival index after the oral health education(p<0.05), but did not show a significant difference in oral health behavior after the oral health education(p<0.05). Conclusions: The effect of oral health education through the motivation of $Qscan^{TM}$ was very effective in the comparison of oral health behavior, gingival index and plaque index.

Background & Objective: Oral health care in adolescent is important for oral health of adult life. The aim of this study was to investigate knowledge and attitude on oral health among high school students. Method: A questionnaire survey was conducted in April, 2010 for students of two high schools located in Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-Do, Korea and final data from 458 students was analyzed. Results: The study subjects were well known about toothbrushing but not on scaling, oral care products, and fluorine. They had positive attitude toward toothbrushing, regular oral health examination, and smoking and drinking control but assumed negative attitude to scaling and utilization of fluorine. A total of 51.1% of the study subjects has participated in oral health education and they had higher level of knowledge and attitude on oral health. There was a significant difference in knowledge and attitude on oral health according to the interest level in oral health and also in knowledge on oral health according to self-rate oral health status. According to utilization of oral health product and scaling knowledge and attitude level on oral health were different significantly. Conclusions: Knowledge and attitude of adolescent are necessary to be improved and changed in some topics of oral health through oral health education.
The aim of this study was to confirm the effectiveness of learner-centered teaching models to reduce the dental anxiety. 18 children with age of 10 at the case group and 22 children with age of 10 at the control group was completed. Children from case group were participated in learner-centered oral health education, while those from control group were participated in instructor-led oral health education. Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) at each groups were measured before oral health education, after then, oral health education of two types at each groups were separately conducted during 1-hour, 2 times. Learner-centered oral health education adapted the systematic desensitization (Tell-Show-Do) was conducted for case groups. Instructor-led oral health education was performed by using the presentation file (PPT). The change of Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) were compare between case and control groups to evaluate the effect of learner-centered teaching type. After oral health education, DAS of the case and control groups at the baseline were 9.61 and 11.14, respectively, and the average DAS decline of case and control groups after oral health education were 2.48 and 0.55, respectively. These findings show that a learner-centered teaching type is an effective oral health program to reduce of dental anxiety in childhood.

Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the subjects' oral health status and changes in the oral environment after mouthwash with effervescent Vitamin C and its intake and to understand the impact on changes in the number of bacteria causing periodontal diseases in the oral cavity based on the oral health status and oral environmental condition. Methods: After obtaining approval from the Institutional Review Board of D-University, 45 people (24 in an experimental group and 21 in a control group) who participated in the oral health program were selected, among visitors of the Clinical Dental Hygienics Laboratory of D. University in B. Results: Based on the subjects' periodontal health status, the number of bacteria causing periodontal diseases in the oral cavity decreased in both experimental and control groups before and after the experiment. However, in the experimental group, it was significant when the Bleeding on Probing(BOP) level was below average, and Calculus index(CAL) was above average, in Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and the red complex. It was also significant when CAL was above average in the orange complex in the control group. Regarding bacterial changes in periodontal diseases based on the subjects' oral environmental condition, there was a significant change in the Adenosine Tri Phosphate (ATP : intraoral contaminants test) test in the oral cavity in A. actinomycetemcomitans and the red complex in the experimental group and in the O'Leary index in the control group. Further, there was a significant change in the orange complex in the ATP test in the experimental group. Conclusions: A comprehensive analysis of the results revealed that the oral health care program for dental hygiene decreased the number of bacteria causing periodontal diseases in the oral cavity in both experimental and control groups.

Objectives: This study was intended to provide resources for the development and operation of the elderly's oral health education programs by comparing the difference of oral health behavior, oral health care self-efficacy and oral health levels according to their oral health education experiences and by researching the correlation of oral Health Behavior, self-efficacy, subjective oral health level and oral health education experience. Methods: An interview survey using structured questionaries was done on 180 senior citizens older than 65 years old residing in some areas of Gyeonggi-do from April 19 to May 25, 2018. The data was analyzed with Chi-square, t-test, spearman correlation coefficient with the use of SPSS 20.0. Results: 1. Those who are older than 75 years old and have higher levels of education and finance have more experiences of oral health education. 2. Those who have experiences of oral health education brush their teeth more than three times a day, use more oral health care items and get more regular preventive treatments such as oral examination and scaling. 3. As they has experiences of oral health education, their oral health behaviors, oral health care self-efficacy(tooth care, dietary control, regular checkup) and subjective oral health levels are high. Conclusion: It is necessary to try to improve the elderly's oral health levels by motivating the importance of oral health care and changing their oral health behaviors positively with the implement of oral health education on the elderly. Especially, oral health education programs that are operated on the elderly should be planned with practical programs that can cause the change of their oral health behaviors and should be processed to reinforce oral health care self-efficacy. Furthermore, preventive treatments for the elderly such as oral health education, oral examination and scaling should be implemented systematically and continuously by policy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of eating habits, activities of daily living and health behaviors on oral health related-quality of life in elders. Methods: The sample consisted of 246 people 65 years or older. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, average standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$, Pearson Correlation Analysis and Hierarchical Multiple Regression. Results: The control variables such as gender, presence of a spouse, subjective health status, presence of chronic disease and existing number of teeth explained 14% (F=7.76, p<.001) of variance in oral health related-quality of life. The control variables, eating habits, activities of daily living and health behaviors collectively explained 20% of variance in oral health related quality of life. Conclusions: The factors that influence oral health related quality of life were presence of spouse presence factor, existing number of teeth and health behavior. Therefore, oral health related quality of life of elders requires the development of programs to boost the quality of life, and help the elderly people to maintain existing number of teeth by focusing on the variety of characteristics.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of oral exercise on oral health and oral health related quality of life in the elderly people. Methods: The subjects were83 elderly people including 42 elderly people of intervention group and 41 elderly people of control group. A dentist and a dental hygienist carried out the direct oral examination. The self-reported questionnaire was completed and the oral examination consisted of decayed tooth, missing tooth, filling tooth, functioning tooth, plaque index, salivary flow rate, and range of motion in mouth opening. OHIP-14 was used to assess the oral health related quality of life. For three months, oral exercise was done twice per week in the experimental group. Results: Before oral exercise, there was no significant difference between the intervention group and control group. After 3 months, there was a significant improvement in plaque reduction and range of motion in mouth opening between two groups (p<0.001, p<0.001). Oral health related quality of life was observed in the intervention group (p<0.001). Conclusions: The oral exercise using toothbrushing remarkably improved the oral health related quality of life in the elderly people.
