An iterative learning control technique based on a linear quadratic optimal criterion is proposed for temperature uniformity control of a silicon wafer in rapid thermal processing.
The present study investigated the construction of the moral concepts of 3-, 4-, and 5- year old Korean children. Instruments were the Maternal Behavior Research Instrument by Schaefer for mother and feather nurturing attitudes, and the Domain Distinctiveness Model for children's moral judgments. Maternal and teacher attitudes were categorized by the affection-rejection factor consisting of affection-affection, affection-rejection, rejection-affection, and rejection-rejection dimensions, and by the permissive, -control factor consisting of permissive-permissive, permissive-control, control-permissive, and control-control dimension. Children's data were collected with an individualized interview in which children were asked to judge moral and social conventional transgression events. 30 children were assigned to each of the maternal/teacher attitude dimensions; thus, there were 120 children for each factor. Results showed that (1) the affection-affection cohort was must strongly related to moral rules using both the seriousness criterion and deserved punishment criterion, and (2) the permissive-permissive cohort was most strongly related to reasoning and action. However, this cohort did not break out of children's structural limitation (limited responses to the intangible).
This paper describes a gate drive circuit for series connected IGBTs in high voltage applications. The proposed control criterion of the gate circuit is to actively limit the voltages during switching transients, while minimizing switching transient and losses. In order to achieve the control criterion, an analog closed loop control scheme is adopted. The performance of gate drive circuit is examined experimentally by the series connection of three IGBTs with conventional snubber circuits. The experimental results show the voltage balancing by an active control under wide variation in loads and imbalance conditions.

This paper proposes a self tuning fuzzy inference method by the genetic algorithm in the fuzzy-sliding mode control for a robot. Using this method, the number of inference rules and the shape of membership functions are optimized without an expert in robotics. The fuzzy outputs of the consequent part are updated by the gradient descent method. And, it is guaranteed that he selected solution become the global optimal solution by optimizing the Akaikes information criterion expressing the quality of the inference rules. The trajectory tracking simulation and experiment of the polishing robot show that the optimal fuzzy inference rules are automatically selected by the genetic algorithm and the proposed fuzzy-sliding mode controller provides reliable tracking performance during the polishing process.

An optimal control technique designed for simultaneous tracking and quality control for batch processes. The proposed technique is designed by transforming quadratic-criterion based iterative learning control(Q-ILC) into linear quadratic control problem. For real-time quality inferential control, the quality is modeled by linear combination of control input around target qualify and then the relationship between quality and control input can be transformed into time-varying linear state space model. With this state space model, the real-time quality inferential control can be incorporated to LQ control Problem. As a consequence, both the quality variable as well as other controlled variables can progressively reduce their control error as the batch number increases while rejecting real-time disturbances, and finally reach the best achievable states dictated by a quadratic criterion even in case that there is significant model error Also the computational burden is much reduced since the most computation is calculated in off-line. The Proposed control technique is applied to a semi-batch reactor model where series-parallelreactions take place.
Lighting industry is rapidly being developed as the ubiquitous society based on sensor network emerges. This kind of paradigm shift brings the society convergence of technologies which leads to smart lighting system as well as the integration of interior and sensibility control. However, standards for sensors have not been firmly established, and problems related to quality and malfunction have been brought up, thereby calling for careful approach to the enhancement and assessment of reliability of the item. In this article reliability assessment criteria for sensor module for lighting fixtures is established in terms of performance assessment criterion and reliability assessment criterion.

A new design method for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S in short) fuzzy controller which guarantees global asymptotic stability and satisfies a desired performance is proposed in this paper. The method uses LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality) approach to find the common symmetric positive definite matrix P and feedback fains K/sub i/, i= 1, 2,..., r, numerically. The LMIs for stability criterion which treats P and K'/sub i/s as matrix variables is derived from Wang et al.'s stability criterion. Wang et al.'s stability criterion is nonlinear MIs since P and K'/sub i/s are coupled together. The desired performance is represented as $ LMIs which place the closed-loop poles of $ local subsystems within the desired region in s-plane. By solving the stability LMIs and pole placement constraint LMIs simultaneously, the feedback gains K'/sub i/s which gurarntee global asymptotic stability and satisfy the desired performance are determined. The design method is verified by designing a T-S fuzzy controller for an inverted pendulum with a cart using the proposed method.
This paper proposes a quantitative criterion for optimization of actuator placement for the Prestress-Accumulation Release (PAR) strategy of mitigation of vibrations. The PAR strategy is a recently developed semi-active control approach that relies on controlled redistribution of vibration energy into high-order modes, which are high-frequency and thus effectively dissipated by means of the natural mechanisms of material damping. The energy transfer is achieved by a controlled temporary removal of selected structural constraints. This paper considers a short-time decoupling of rotational degrees of freedom in a frame node so that the bending moments temporarily cease to be transferred between the involved beams. We propose and test a quantitative criterion for placement of such actuators. The criterion is based on local modal strain energy that can be released into high-order modes. The numerical time complexity is linear with respect to the number of actuators and potential placements, which facilitates quick analysis in case of large structures.
The $\overline{x}$ control chart for the process mean and either the R or s control chart for the process dispersion have been used together to monitor the manufacturing processes. However, it has been pointed out that this procedure is flawed by a fault that makes it difficult to capture the behavior of process condition visually by considering the relationship between the shift in the process mean and the change in the process dispersion because the respective characteristics are monitored by an individual control chart in parallel. Then, the ($\overline{x}$, s) control chart has been proposed to enable the process managers to monitor the changes in the process mean, process dispersion, or both. On the one hand, identifying which process parameters are responsible for out-of-control condition of process is one of the important issues in the process management. It is especially important in the ($\overline{x}$, s) control chart where some parameters are monitored at a single plane. The previous literature has proposed the multiple decision method based on the statistical hypothesis tests to identify the parameters responsible for out-of-control condition. In this paper, we propose how to identify parameters responsible for out-of-control condition using the information criterion. Then, the effectiveness of proposed method is shown through some numerical experiments.

To maintain the traditional notion of global serializability in multidatabase systems has been recognized as one of difficult problems due to the autonomy of participating local database systems. In this paper, we propose a global concurrency control algorithm based on the relaxed concurrency control criterion in distributed MDBs, which can be applied to applications in which the database integration has no effect on the integrity constraints. In the proposed algorithm, the process to determine whether a global transaction can be executed or not consists of intra-validation phase and inter-validation phase.
