  • The objective of this paper is to survey and put in perspective the existing methods of dynamic filter development. This includes theories and practices for linear and nonlinear filters, multiple model filters, and data association methods for tracking in multitarget environment. The presentation of this paper is motivated by recent surge of interest in the area of designing feedback control systems with reduced number of sensors, detection and identification of abrupt changes, and multitarget tracking in clutter. It is hoped to be useful in view of the need to take a grasp of existing techniques before using them in practice and developing new techniques.

  • Two methods are applied to the problem of trajectory optimization for launch vehicles which burn solid propellant. One is 'Optimal Control' theory, the other is 'NonLinear Programming' method. Trajectory optimization for solid rocket motors has a special problem. The special problem is that the payload of launch vehicle is not the function of control variable. This paper deals with this special problem.

  • Since the inception of fuzzy control, lots of methods to design fuzzy controller have been reported, However, it is admitted that these methods are tailored to special problems and cannot be used in general control situation. Therefore this paper proposes auromatic generation algorithm of fuzzy control system and develops an automatic fuzzy controller generator. For that purpose, the genetic algorithm is used and it searches for the optimal parameters to design the fuzzy controller

  • This paper propose a optimal design method for robust notion controllers of under-water vehicles using the combined technique between classical and modern theories. The proposed method is presented which utilizes classical control methods to obtain a good robustness and modern control methods to set optimal gains. LQ, SVD, multivariable frequency analysis and Bode-Root Locus (BRL) plot are used.

  • This paper discusses the problem of designing an observation function as coarsest as possible in supervisory control of discrete event dynamic systems. Some algebraic properties of two sets consisting of observation functions for which the given desirable behavior is realizable are investigated:these sets with a partial ordering turn out not to possess largest elements. Two natural methods of obtaining an observation function, which is frequently coarser than the identity mapping, are also presented. An example illustrates the use of these methods.

  • In this paper, Recursive Least Squares (RLS) and Fourier Transform Regression (FTR) methods for estimating stability and control derivatives of small unmanned helicopter are evaluated together with MMLE technique. Flight data simulated by using a commercial small-scale helicopter model are exploited to estimate the parameters with accuracies for hover and cruise modes. The performances of the system identification methods are also compared by analyzing the responses of the reconstructed systems using estimated derivatives.

  • In this paper, we present the error control techniques for the error correction methods (ECM) which is recently developed by P. Kim et al. [8, 9]. We formulate the local truncation error at each time and calculate the approximated solution using the solution and the formulated truncation error at previous time for achieving uniform error bound which enables a long time simulation. Numerical results show that the error controlled ECM provides a clue to have uniform error bound for well conditioned problems [1].

  • The applicability of the two types of magnetic separation system, high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) and Magneto Archimedes method were studied considering the magnetic susceptibility of targeted substances. It was noted that the combination of the two methods can control the almost all the substances, paramagnetic and diamagnetic in addition to ferromagnetic substances. The principle of the methods was given and the conceput of the magnet force control technology is discussed. The practical applications of the technique were introduced together with the new application of HGMS.

  • This paper presents a study on the modeling on the dimming control of electronic fluorescent lamp. The resulted models of the lamps were applied the two dimming control methods, one is the variable switching frequence and the other is the variable dc link voltage method. And the comparison of the dimming characteristics between the two methods was presented. Theoretical predictions were verified the experimental results on a 100w electrodeless fluorescent lamp.
