  • Accurate and fast haptic simulations of deformable objects are desired in many applications such as medical virtual reality. In haptic interactions with a coarse model, the number of nodes near the haptic interaction region is too few to generate detailed deformation. Thus, local refinement techniques need to be developed. Many approaches have employed purely geometric subdivision schemes, but they are not proper in describing the deformation behavior of deformable objects. This paper presents a continuum mechanics-based finite element adaptive method to perform haptic interaction with a deformable object. This method superimposes a local fine mesh upon a global coarse model, which consists of the entire deformable object. The local mesh and the global mesh are coupled by the s-version finite element method (s-FEM), which is generally used to enhance accurate solutions near the target points even more. The s-FEM can demonstrate a reliable deformation to users in real-time.

  • In this paper, a hybrid boundary element technique is implemented to analyze nonlinear transient pile soil interaction in Gibson type nonhomeogenous soil. Inelastic modeling of soil media is presented by introducing a rational approximation to the continuum with nonlinear interface springs along the piles. Modified $\ddot{O}$zdemir's nonlinear model is implemented and systems of equations are coupled at interfaces for piles and pile groups. Linear beam column finite elements are used to model the piles and the resulting governing equations are solved using an implicit integration scheme. By enforcing displacement equilibrium conditions at each time step, a system of equations is generated which yields the solution. A numerical example is performed to investigate the effects of nonlinearity on the pile soil interaction.

  • The paper presents a methodology to model three-dimensional reinforced concrete members by means of embedded discontinuity elements based on the Continuum Strong Discontinuous Approach (CSDA). Mixture theory concepts are used to model reinforced concrete as a 3D composite material constituted of concrete with long fibers (rebars) bundles oriented in different directions embedded in it. The effects of the rebars are modeled by phenomenological constitutive models devised to reproduce the axial non-linear behavior, as well as the bond-slip and dowel action. The paper presents the constitutive models assumed for the components and the compatibility conditions chosen to constitute the composite. Numerical analyses of existing experimental reinforced concrete members are presented, illustrating the applicability of the proposed methodology.

  • The discrete element method is a numerical model capable of describing the mechanical behaviour of assemblies of discs and spheres. The method is based on the use of an explicit numerical scheme in which the interaction of the particles is monitored contact by contact and the motion of the particles modelled particle by particle. In this paper, A two-dimensional model for computing contacts and motions of granular particles of unform, inelasticity is presented. And, code is developed. The primary aim of this paper is to approv computational result of continuum alaysis which is on processing. The end of this paper, that code is tested with several examples.

  • A finite element model for polarization switching in electro-mechanically coupled materials is proposed and applied to predict the switching behavior of a two-dimensional ferroelectric ceramic. A complicated micro-structure existing in the material is modeled as il continuum body and a simple 3 node triangle finite element with nodal displacement and voltage degrees of freedom is used for a finite element analysis. The elements use nonlinear constitutive equations, switching criterion and kinetic relation, fur representation of material response at strong electric and stress fields. The polarization state of the material is represented by internal variables in each element, which are updated at each simulation step based on the proposed constitutive equations. The model reproduces strain and electric displacement hysteresis loops observed in the material.

  • The objective of this work is to analyze post-buckling of functionally graded (FG) beams with porosity effect under compression load. Material properties of the beam change in the thickness direction according to power-law distributions with different porosity models. It is known that post-buckling problems are geometrically nonlinear problems. In the nonlinear kinematic model of the beam, total Lagrangian finite element model of two dimensional (2-D) continuum is used in conjunction with the Newton-Raphson method. In the study, the effects of material distribution, porosity parameters, compression loads on the post-buckling behavior of FG beams are investigated and discussed with porosity effects. Also, the effects of the different porosity models on the FG beams are investigated in post-buckling case.

  • This paper reviews the concept and limits of rural community development, examines the relation between consciousness education and movement, and suggests the model of social consciousness education to rural community movement. Since consciousness education is closely related to social movement methodologically, organizational and systematic community development movements for re-structuring the urban-oreiented policies and education which back up them be followed as natural consequence. Based upon the results of this study, the new paradigm is suggested. As shown in the model, new understanding of urban-rural continuum theory, new roles and concept of social consciousness education should be emphasized to solve the contemporary rural community problems. The organizational community development movement for the rural-oriented policy should be an essential process, and peoples' re-orientation, such as 'breaking stereotype', 'assumming a critical thinking toward social reality' etc., is the indispensible background of successful movement.

  • Recently, piezoelectric materials have attracted considerable attention because of its self-sensing and actuating properties. To model smart structures, numerical modeling of structures with piezoelectric devices is essential. As many factors affect the performance of smart structures, optimization of these parameters is necessary. In this paper, the shape design sensitivity analysis of the 3D piezoelectric and structural elements is developed and shape optimization is performed. For the evaluation of the sensitivity, the finite element method is used. For the shape sensitivity, the domain velocity field is calculated. An acoustic cavity model is presented as a numerical example to study the feasibility of the formulation. The continuum sensitivity is compared with the results of the finite difference method by ANSYS. And the sequential linear programming (SLP) algorithm is used as the optimization algorithm.

  • A wide literature review on Static Soil-Structure-Interaction (SSI) is done to highlight the key impacts of soil complexity on structural members of framed structures. Attention is paid to the developed approaches, i.e., conventional and Finite Element Method (FEM), to emphasize on deficiencies and merits of the proposed methods according to their applicability, accuracy and power to model and idealization of the superstructures as well as the soil continuum. Proposed hypothesis are much deeply discussed herein for better understanding which is normally neglected in literature review papers due to the large number of references and limit of space.
