  • For necessary information sharing or operation control via wire-wireless/mobile network connecting of devices at disaster area in greatest need of attention, an emergency network efficient construction method quickly connecting nodes within specific range using Delaunay triangulation is proposed. The emergency network constructed by proposed method shows the same aggregate network length, but does more excellent performance in term of network construction time the more long max length connectable to adjacent node as compared with the network by naive method. In experiment of 1000 input terminal nodes, 5 max length connectable to adjacent node, our proposed method enhances 89.1% in execution time without network length increase compared to naive method. So our method can go well to many useful applications as shift construction of communication network of adjacent devices, internet of things and efficient routing in the sensor network in continuous improvement of communication capability.

  • Aqua regia extraction for the quantification of heavy metals and As in contaminated soils was investigated as one of preliminary steps for on-site monitoring using sensor technology. Soil samples were taken from closed railway depot, closed mines, and closed refinery and various extraction conditions including $30^{\circ}C/15min$, $30^{\circ}C/30min$, $30^{\circ}C/60min$, $30^{\circ}C/120min$, $80^{\circ}C/15min$, $80^{\circ}C/30min$, $80^{\circ}C/60min$, $80^{\circ}C/120min$ were tested. The optimal extraction condition was determined as $80^{\circ}C/60min$ because the extraction efficiencies of Zn were relatively low and did not reach the targeted level (80-100% of original concentrations) for $30^{\circ}C$ conditions. It was found that the fractionation of heavy metals and As using the sequential extraction method was useful to understand the degree of metal extraction. In order to enhance the extraction efficiency within short extraction time, ultrasound technology using a 20 kHz horn-type sonicator was additionally used for $30^{\circ}C/15min$. It was revealed that ultrasound could significantly enhance the extraction efficiency and pulsed irradiation showed higher efficiency than continuous irradiation due to the less formation of bubble clouds. However high temperature condition ($80^{\circ}C$) was required to achieve high extraction efficiency for Zn in spite of the use of ultrasound.

  • As the frequency of seismic disasters in Korea has increased rapidly since 2016, interest in systematic maintenance and crisis response technologies for structures has been increasing. A data-based leading management system of Lifeline facilities is important for rapid disaster response. In particular, the water supply network, one of the major Lifeline facilities, must be operated by a systematic maintenance and emergency response system for stable water supply. As one of the methods for this, the importance of the structural health monitoring(SHM) technology has emerged as the recent continuous development of sensor and signal processing technology. Among the various types of SHM, because all machines generate vibration, research and application on the efficiency of a vibration-based SHM are expanding. This paper reviews a vibration-based pipeline SHM system for seismic disaster response of water supply pipelines including types of vibration sensors, the current status of vibration signal processing technology and domestic major research on structural pipeline health monitoring, additionally with application plan for existing pipeline operation system.

  • The blood pressure measurement is calculated as a value corresponding to the pressure of the blood vessel using the pressure from the outside for a long time. Due to the recent miniaturization of measurement equipment and the ICT combination of personal healthcare systems, a system that enables continuous and real-time measurement of blood pressure with a sensor is required. In this study, blood pressure was measured using pulse transit time using Photoplethysmography. In this study, blood pressure was estimated by using systolic blood pressure. And it is possible to make measurement only with PPG itself, which can contribute to making a micro blood pressure measuring device. As a result, systolic blood pressure and PPG's S1-P and P-S2 were used to analyze the possibility of blood pressure estimation.

  • Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) sensors have been widely used in Structural Health Monitoring due to their convenience and lower costs in comparison to conventional sensors. Triggered measurements are relevant in events such as earthquakes because unlike continuous measurements, they only record the structural response once an event happens. This is more cost effective and it makes the data more manageable because only the required measurements from the event are recorded. The most common method of triggering is amplitude triggering. However, lower input amplitudes (less than 0.1g) cannot be triggered by using this method. In this paper, sound triggering was introduced to allow triggered measurements for lower input amplitude values. The performance of the sound triggering and amplitude triggering were compared by a series of shaking-table tests. It was seen that sound-triggering method has a wider frequency (0.5~10Hz) and amplitude (0.01~1.0g) range of measurements. In addition, the sound triggering method performs better than the amplitude triggering method at lower amplitudes. The performance of the amplitude triggering, in terms of the triggering being simultaneous improves at higher input amplitudes.

  • Control moment gyro (CMG) employed as satellite actuators, generates a large torque through the steering of its gimbals. Although each gimbal holds a high-speed rotating wheel, the wheel imbalances induces disturbance and degrades the satellite control quality. Therefore, the disturbances ought to be detected and identified as a precaution against actuator faults. Among the method used in detecting disturbances is the state observers. In this paper, we apply a continuous second order sliding mode observer to detect single disturbances/faults in CMGs. Verification of the algorithm is also done on the hardware satellite simulator where four CMGs are installed.

  • The space-borne SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) system radiates the microwave signal and receives the backscattered signal. The received signal is converted to digital at the Digital Receiver, which is implemented at the end of the SAR sensor receiving chain. The converted signal is formated after signal processing such as filtering and data compression. Two quantization are conducted in the Digital Receiver. One quantization is an analog to digital conversion at ADC(Analog-Digital Converter). Another quantization is the BAQ(Block Adaptive Quantization) for data compression. The quantization process is a conversion from a continuous or higher bit precision to a discrete or lower bit precision. As a result, a quantization noise is inevitably occurred. In this paper, the impact of two quantization processes are analyzed in a view of SNR degradation.

  • In the IoT environment, event data from sensors is continuously reported over time. Event data obtained in this trend is accumulated indefinitely, so a method for efficient analysis and management of data is required. In this study, a data stream segmentation method was proposed to support the effective selection and utilization of event data from sensors that are continuously reported and received. An identifier for identifying the point at which to start the analysis process was selected. By introducing the role of these identifiers, it is possible to clarify what is being analyzed and to reduce data throughput. The identifier for stream segmentation proposed in this study is a semantic-oriented data stream segmentation method based on the event occurrence of each stream. The existence of identifiers in stream processing can be said to be useful in terms of providing efficiency and reducing its costs in a large-volume continuous data inflow environment.

  • The active living of the elderly leads to improve their lives and enhance social networks. In the view of the active living, the walkability is an essential factor for the elderly's daily life. To support the active living, making age-friendly environment is important. Considering that the elderly mainly carry out activities through walking, making the age-friendly walking environment is a preliminary action. The existing studies applied various methods such as surveys by experts. In spite of the benefits in theirs, there is still a limitation that current walkability measurement methods did not incorporate the actual elderly's walking activity. Thus, the purposes of this study is to measure the elderly's walking quantitatively using a wearable sensor, and to investigate the feasibility of comparing several walking environments based on the data collected from the actual elderly's walking. To do this, experiment was conducted in four types environments with 22 senior subjects. The walkability was measured by walking stability represented quantitatively as Maximum Lyapunov Exponent (MaxLE). Through the experiment results, it was confirmed that the stability of the elderly walking was different according to the walking environment, which also meant that bodily responses (walking stability) is highly related to walkability. The results will provide an opportunity for the continuous diagnosis of walking environments, thereby enhancing the active living of the elderly.

  • In this study, an automated culture media replacement system was developed to analyze changes in the contraction characteristics of cardiomyocytes according to the state of the culture media. For the long-term storage of culture media, a Peltier refrigerator with a temperature of 5 to 8℃ was provided and a pH of 7.4 was maintained. The cell culture media of the cardiomyocytes was continuously replaced using interlocking pumps at a flow rate of 0.83 μl/h. The cardiomyocytes in which the culture media was replaced automatically demonstrated lower heartbeats per minute compared to samples in which there was no replacement. However, these cardiomyocytes moved more uniformly and produced greater displacement in one heartbeat cycle. It was observed that the sarcomere length of the cardiomyocytes increased due to the automated culture media replacement system. These cardiomyocytes were found to demonstrate better maturation compared to the control group. The maturation of cardiomyocytes was verified through staining images. The proposed automated culture media replacement system generates a uniform heart rate and improvements in contraction force. Based on the study, patient-specific drug toxicity assessments can be conducted using differentiated cardiomyocytes in induced pluripotent stem cells.
