In particular, webtoons have emerged as being successful source media, and this study analyzes how the webtoon 's narrative is expanded and transformed in the remediation process into TV drama. The results showed that, the webtoon , which was targeted at a relatively more specific audience, objectively described stories of the life and hardships of an office worker through a contractual employee at a trading company navigating work life based on strategies of Baduk; while the TV drama version, which aims to appeal to a broader audience, strengthened popular narratives with topics of social issues such as 'hardships of the non-permanent employee', 'sexual discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace', 'difficulties of a working mom', and 'romance between new colleagues'. In addition, in order to create dramatic enjoyment, the drama's storytelling strategy incorporated conflicts by creating confrontational relationships among good and evil characters, and added humanism and comedic effect.

  • This paper examines the sound of Godard's <$Pr{\acute{e}}nom$ Carmen> from Deleuze's film aesthetics and Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological point of view. The rehearsal scene of a string quartet is a mirror-image that illuminates the music itself, and becomes a crystal-image with the indiscernibility of the present and the past in the break with the main narrative. On the other hand, urban noise and waves are the seeds composed of pure optical (sound) images and grow into pure sound crystals that collide with what is seen through the juxtaposition, substitution, and intentional connection of sound. However, these sound contradictions also lead to the integrated sound category as a 'sole movement' through Merleau-Ponty's dialectical thought, and even the dialectical sound management of pop and classical music is no longer a confrontation of the genre, but is integrated into the materialistic category of sound. This study is differentiated from the existing research by solving the sound aesthetics of the Godard's film through philosophical thought.

  • Recently Korean film industry has continuously experienced a rapid growth and expanded its influence to foreign countries. Accordingly, there have been numerous studies in various research areas to investigate the characteristics of the industry. In this study, we applied social network analysis based on the attributes such as genres, ratings, distributors, nationalities, sizes, and profitability to divide the movies into several clusters with respect to their similarity. Results suggested that the ratings and nationality rather than the genre are the major factors to divide the motion picture market into clusters and the profitability also varies much across the clusters. Furthermore, estimation of the diffusion model showed the positive relationship between the success of a movie and the word-of-mouth effect, while the relatively unsuccessful titles exhibited a monotonic decreasing diffusion pattern with the high initial demand and the early peak time.

  • We examined the annual film distribution portfolio of a Korean film distributor, Lotte Entertainment, investigating how the company puts big-budget films and low-budget movies together. As a result, the distributor was found to invest more than 80% of its whole budget in producing medium-size movies. The more successful box office, however, was witnessed from big-budget films that the company spent more than 6 billion Korean wons. With respect to genre, comedy and drama were the most and second-most frequently produced. However, Those two genres were not the most successful genres in the box office. Korean movie-goers favored actions and thriller the most and second most. Comedy took only the third place of the Korean box office, signifying a discord between the portfolio and the Korean box office.
