In this study, bronze or SUS304 powders blended with 10 wt.% diamond particles were used to prepare metal/diamond composite materials deposited by cold spraying. The effects of matrix metal, diamond partical size, and the thickness of the Ni coating on the diamond were studied on Al 6061 substrate. The results showed that the hardness of the metal/diamond composite coating layers was higher than that of the same composite materials when using the sintering method. The fraction of diamond content in the coated layer increased when the metal matrix was soft. When the size of the diamond particles was reduced, the fraction of the diamond particles increased. In addition, in the case of diamond with a thicker Ni-coated layer, the fracturing of diamonds was mitigated in the composite coating layers.

The degree to which microenvironmental factors are linked to spatial patterns of vegetational factors within ecosystems has important consequences for our understanding of how ecosytems are structured and for conservation of rare species in ecosystems. We studied this relationships between the spatial patterns of microenvironmental factors and vegetational factors in temperate hardwood forest in Mt. Jumbong Biological Reserve Area, Korea. To do this, environmental and vegetational factors from 196 micropoints in a 0.49 ha plot were investigated. Most of all environmental factors and vegetational factors showed the variations among micropoints. Microtopographic factors, litter depth, soil moisture content and relative light intensity at this site were spatially dependent at a scale of 14∼62 m. Coverage of tree and shrub layer and species diversity of herb layer in autumn were spatially dependent at a scale of < 15 m. Species richness and species diversity of herb layer in spring and species richness of herb layer in autumn were spatially dependent at a scale of 28∼48 m. Multiple regression analysis showed that spatial patterns of species richness and species diversity of herb layer in spring and autumn were affected by litter depth, slope, subtree layer, shrub, Sasa borealis etc. The best predictor for the spatial patterns of species richness and species diversity of herb layer at this site was the spatial pattern of litter depth. Species richness and species diversity of herb layer showed strongly negative correlation with litter depth. We estimate that the spatial pattern of litter depth at this site were affected by direction of wind, microtopography and spatial pattern of shrub layer.
An image coding based on MRC model, a kind of multi-layer image model, first segments a screen image into foreground, mask, and background layers, and then compresses each layer using a codec that is suitable to the layer. The mask layer defines the position of foreground regions such as textual and graphical contents. The colour signal of the foreground (background) region is saved in the foreground (background) layer. The mask layer which contains the segmentation result of foreground and background regions is of importance since its accuracy directly affects the overall coding performance of the codec. This paper proposes a new layer segmentation algorithm for the MRC based image coding. The proposed method extracts text pixels from the background using morphological top hat filtering. The application of white or black top hat transformation to local blocks is controlled by the information of relative brightness of text compared to the background. In the proposed method, the boundary information of text that is extracted from the edge map of the block is used for the robust decision on the relative brightness of text. Simulation results show that the proposed method is superior to the conventional methods.

In this study, the antioxidant and pancreatic lipase inhibitory activities of aqueous methanolic (70% methanol) extract from the roots of Anemarrhena asphodeloides were investigated. The extracts of four solvent fractions (the n-hexane layer, EtOAc layer, n-BuOH layer, and $H_2O$ layer) of the 70% methanol extract were also investigated. Furthermore, the total phenolic content was quantified using a spectrophotometric method. All the tested samples showed dose-dependent radical scavenging and pancreatic lipase inhibitory activities. In particular, the pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity of the ethyl acetate soluble portion (the EtOAc layer) from the rhizomes of the A. asphodeloides was higher than that of the other solvent-soluble portions. The antioxidant property of the extracts was evaluated using radical scavenging assays with DPPH and $ABTS^+$ radicals. 1000 mg/ml of the n-BuOH layer extract showed 91.2% DPPH radical scavenging activity. The EtOAc layer extract and the n-BuOH layer extract showed $IC_{50}=20.5{\pm}1.7mg/ml$ and $IC_{50}=50.5{\pm}0.7mg/ml$$ABTS^+$ radical scavenging activities, respectively. The anti-obesity efficacy of the A. asphodeloides extract was tested via porcine pancreatic lipase assay. A pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity ($IC_{50}$) of $31.3{\pm}0.1mg/ml$ was obtained from the EtOAc layer extract. These results suggest that A. asphodeloides can be considered a new potential source of natural antioxidant and anti-obesity agents.
The limiting factors to determine available soil depth were studied with 390 soil series in soil profile description and physicochemical data in Korean soils. The limiting factors were coarse sandy layer, gravel and skeletal layer, hardpan layer, cat clay layer, poorly drained layer, salt accumulated layer and bed rock layer so on. The soils of having limiting factors were 332 soil series, but soils without limiting factors were 58 soil series. Soils with limiting factors were, hardpan 5, slopeness 93, immature soil 29, cinder 5, sandy 42, gravel or skeletal 47, bedrock 19, high salt content 8, poorly drained soil 22, heavy clay 32, sulfate soil 3 and ash soil 27 etc. And the orders of available soil depth were immature > slopeness > ash > heavy clay > sandy > gravel or skeletal > hardpan > cindery > poorly drained > bedrock > acid sulfate soil > salt accumulated soil etc.
The objective of this paper was to evaluate the shear bond strength of luting glass ionomer cement with defferent calcium based solution treatment on dentin surface. 120 extracted human teeth were classified into 12 group based on presence of smear layer on dentin surface and type of treatment solution. Smear layer remove on dentin surface was done using 6% citric acid for 60 seconds. Five different dentin surface treatment solutions(calcium acetate, calcium carbonate, clacium chlorided, calcium hydroxide, and calcium phosphate) were evaluated in this study. After surface modification, metal ring(inner diameter : 3mm, depth : 1mm) was placed to expose the same dentin surface area and inner space was filled with luting glass ionomer cement according to the recommended procedure for stadard clinical procedure. The shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement was determined after 24 hours. SEM was used for the evaluation of the surface morphologic changes and EDAX analysis was done for determination of the change of the calcium contents of treated dentin. Follwing conclusion can be drawn : 1. In the group of the dentin surface with smear layer, the calcium carbonate solution was the most effective for the increase of the clacium content and the shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement to dentin surfaces. 2. In the group of the calcium carbonate treated dentin with msear layer, the shear bond strength was increased twice compared to the control group and cohesive failure mode was observed. 3. The shear bond strength of cement was increased significantly be the removal of smear layer using 6% citric aicd. However, additional calcium solution treatments were not effective for further bond strength increase. 4. The shear bond strength of cement was significantly improved by both of the removal of smear layer and the calcium solution treatment, and the former was more effective for bond strength improvement. 5. The smear layer removed/calcium solution treated groups showed dentinal tubule obstruction and crystal attachment in SEM evaluation. However, the shear bond strengths of these groups were not increased compared to the smear layer removed/no dentin treatment group.

With the scaling down of ultra large integrated circuits (ULSI) to the sub-50 nm technology node, the need for an ultra-thin, continuous and conformal diffusion barrier and Cu seed layer is increasing. However, diffusion barrier and Cu seed layer formation with a physical vapor deposition (PVD) method has become difficult as the technology node is reduced to 30 nm and beyond. Recent work on self-forming barrier processes using PVD Cu alloys have attracted great attention due to the capability of conformal ultra-thin barrier formation using a simple technique. However, as in the case of the conventional barrier and Cu seed layer, PVD of the Cu alloy seed layer will eventually encounter the difficulty in conformal deposition in narrow line trenches and via holes. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) has been known for its good step coverage and precise thickness control, and is a candidate technique for the formation of a thin conformal barrier layer and Cu seed layer. Conformal Cu-Mn seed layers were deposited by plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) at low temperature ($120^{\circ}C$), and the Mn content in the Cu-Mn alloys were controlled form 0 to approximately 10 atomic percent with various Mn precursor feeding times. Resistivity of the Cu-Mn alloy films decreased by annealing due to out-diffusion of Mn atoms. Out-diffused Mn atoms were segregated to the surface of the film and interface between a Cu-Mn alloy and $SiO_2$, resulting in self-formed $MnO_x$ and $MnSi_xO_y$, respectively. No inter-diffusion was observed between Cu and $SiO_2$ after annealing at $500^{\circ}C$ for 12 h, indicating an excellent diffusion barrier property of the $MnSi_xO_y$. The adhesion between Cu and $SiO_2$ was enhanced by the formation of $MnSi_xO_y$. Continuous and conductive Cu-Mn seed layers were deposited with PEALD into 32 nm $SiO_2$ trench, enabling a low temperature process, and the trench was perfectly filled using electrochemical plating (ECD) under conventional conditions. Thus, it is the resultant self-forming barrier process with PEALD Cu-Mn alloy film as a seed layer for plating Cu that has further potential to meet the requirement of the smaller than 30 nm node.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary low grade soybean, fermented with Aspergillus oryzae (FSB 1) or Bacillus subtilis var. natto (FSB 2), on egg production and quality, fat and cholesterol content, and the fatty acid (FA) profile of eggs by lipid layer. A total of 18 Hi-Line strain layers, 22 wk of age, were randomly assigned to three dietary treatments: no fermented soybean (control), control with 15% FSB 1 (C + FSB 1), and control with 15% FSB 2 (C + FSB 2). The rate of egg production and egg weight were evaluated between two periods: one was from the 1st to 4th wk and the other was from the 5th to 8th wk. At the 8th wk, a total of 30 eggs were randomly selected from each treatment group and analyzed for physical quality, fat content, fatty acid composition and cholesterol content. The results showed that egg production was increased in hens fed with diets containing fermented soybeans from the 5th to 8th wk period (p<0.01). A similar tendency was observed through eight weeks' cumulative egg production (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in egg production between the C + FSB 1 and C + FSB 2 treatment groups (p>0.05). Egg weight and other physical properties did not vary between treatment groups (p>0.05). Egg yolks among different treatment groups were similar in fat content, but egg yolks in the C + FSB 1 and C + FSB 2 groups had lower oleic acid (p<0.05), higher linoleic, ${\alpha}$-linolenic, and arachidonic acids (p<0.01), and lower cholesterol content (p<0.05) than those in the control group. In conclusion, supplementation of fermented low grade soybeans might be useful as a functional feedstuff to improve egg production and quality for a healthy human diet.
