This study attempted to make a comparative investigation into architecture and fashion. It was intended to grasp the contemporary meaning of fashion expressed in fashion by investigating the image of lightness expressed in contemporary fashion. With the increasing trend of the characteristics of lightness over the whole field of contemporary design, this study took an opportunity to probe its understanding and a desirable direction of expression. The study results were summarized as follows: First, flexibility conveys comfortableness and lightness that makes people feel wear no costume in a soft and flowing style. This phenomenon is thought to express the desire to depart from the dismal and heavy ideology of the past times. Second, lightness is expressed as the virtual transparency felt from what is spatial. It shows a sense of openness while removing the internal and external boundary. Third, liberalness expresses the unfettered consciousness of freedom by expressing an open, free image through free, thin and transparent fashion.

Despite rapid social changes, there have been little distinctive or fast shifts in living space, and the kind of housing design that could address the diverse need of residents is required. In the future, complex trend that is built on a mix and match of different sorts of styles is expected to be in vogue. The introduction of natural elements and ornamental factors such as books, antiques and art works into living spaces that are artificial things is expected to contribute to helping people lead a richer and Individual life. This study attempted to present a housing design by instilling culture in an existing living space and making it fit into a new lifestyle. After the position of natural and ornamental components was fixed, a contemporary modern living space was designed, for which art works would become necessary and sufficient conditions. A plane figure of the new living space was offered, and then detailed design for each part was provided. Finally, a finalized design pattern that was suitable for the selected concept was presented.

Phenomena experienced by all individuals and cultural interpretation of such phenomena seem to be irrelevant to the change of time. The subject dream to be discussed in this study is one of them. Nevertheless, people's attitude of understanding dreams in the past is obviously different from the contemporary one, and the interpretation of dreams reveals the science of the corresponding age. Bishop Daveluy, a missionary to Chosun in the mid 19th century, observed Korean people's hardly understandable response to dreams. According to his explanation, Chosun people regarded what they saw in a dream as a fact. It might have been quite long that a dream is regarded as a sign of the future. However, how a dream can be a sign of the future is explained different according to the science of the corresponding age. Many records on dreams since the late Koryo Dynasty and the early Chosun Dynasty did not give satisfactory answers to this question. However, new interpretations of dreams were attempted occasionally in the process that the Sung Confucian view of nature in the Chosun Dynasty was being matured. One of such interpretations is that a dream is obviously a phenomenon of human cognition and there is a rule behind dreams. I t was believed that the rule is a flow of energy defined by reason penetrating through the past, the present and the future and, as a consequence, dreams are future oriented. The view that a dream is a phenomenon with a causal relation is observed more specifically in medicine. I t was understood basically as a pathological phenomenon but, at the same time, a substance in an organic relation with the human body. In addition, it was understood as the results of facts (physiological and pathological processes) experienced by the body in the past and the sign of diseases in the future. However, from the viewpoint of contemporary science based on empirical rationalism, such foreseeability is fundamentally unacceptable. In contemporary science, in which scientific analysis of phenomena has to be of the past tense, dreams exist as the representations of the past. What Bishop Daveluy saw in Korean people was a phenomenon observed when the pre modern met the modern as pre modern people's life and idea were viewed from a modern people's eye.

This study examined the expression mode and feature about photomontage indicated in the 21st century's Contemporary fashion. This intends to have better understanding on photomontage and to provide theoretical explanation to help a creative design development using photomontage in the future. For the research method, review over photomontage concept and its historical background was carried out with relevant literature and precedent studies. Then, analysis was followed about 258 pieces of photomontage application works featured in the four major global collections from 2001S/S to 2011F/W. Among types of photomontage expression in the Contemporary fashion, objects in the nature like animal, plant, scenery picture took up the highest frequency as motive. Other types appeared in the following order: the people-oriented type such as eminent person's figure or partial body, the ready-made image including diverse daily goods in the modern consumption society, a variety of printed stuff like cartoon, newspaper and magazine, the type of photomontage expression through borrowing the earlier famous art pieces or doing the cooperative work with artists in different fields, applications like architecture, land marks in many cities in the world, and interior, things assembled with various images, modified religious images in photomontage from Buddha or holy picture. Therefore, the modern fashion that uses photomontage could possibly feature popularity, naturalism, playfulness and creativity.

In this study homosexuality as a discourse represented in contemporary fashion magazines is explored in context. The main concerns are the contemporary construction of homosexuality, fashion symbols to identify homosexuals, and relationships between homosexuality and heterosexual masculinity in fashion images today. After elaborating homosexuality conceptualized historically, an analytical framework from Foucault's discursive approach was made up to interpret the fashion spreads since 2000. As a result, as it is assumed that the concept of homosexuality is constructed by historical specificity, homosexual fashion styles are dynamic. So, it should be recognized that they are formed by power relationships with heterosexuality, and other social factors such as class, race, age, and consumer culture and market trends. On the basis of photographic themes and fashion looks homosexual images are classified into 3 kinds of versions, the effeminate trend setter, the masculine athlete or biker, and the neo camp. However, most of contemporary homosexual photographs are not also so conspicuously different from heterosexual ones. Therefore, in the contemporary structure at least from fashion images, homosexuals can be recognized equally with heterosexual people only except for sexual preference. Thus, homosexual fashion also shares a lot of fashionable products with heterosexual one, with often homosexuals' role as trend -setter.

This study aims to clarify the identity of contemporary Chinese fashion design by examining how the characteristics of Chinese tradition are accepted and presented in fashion under the influences of western cultures. This study performed a literature survey on related works. Also this study performed demonstrative analysis of Chinese daily newspapers (People's Daily and Xinmin Evening News, 2007-2010) and fashion collections by Chinese and Chinese descent designers(2007-2011). The results are as follows: First, China is trying to express Chinese traditional ideas and factors in the design areas, and also trying to achieve an universal generalization. Second, the Chinese designers emphasized traditional ideas and culture in their designs. The Chinese descent designers were affected more by western culture. The common aesthetic consciousness were the beauties of sophisticated and splendorous decoration, vastness and elegance. Also the compromised images, neutral images and antique images were common in both groups. Third, the Chinese designers presented fashion designs on formalized and imitation stage. Also they tried to make a metaphorical stage. The Chinese descent designers showed designs on a metaphorical stage. In conclusion, the contemporary Chinese fashion design should find the way to globalize and identity of the traditional culture code simultaneously.

The Contemporary paradigm to understand the complexity and diversity is moving to 'Becoming' that taken place in reviewing at the relation of various concepts. In Japan, After the collapse of modern architecture has been declared 'Metabolism' was appeared. They tried to apply organism's metabolic system to buildings based on ecological thoughts. But Metaboilsm's projects had revealed limitations of representation that the city on the mechanical system became a huge scale. As a result, It caused a break the cultural context of the region in Japan. After then, Japanese Architects expressed a pluralistic aspects of modern society for the restoration of disconnected cultural context. From this perspective, The thought of 'becoming' is a new role for Contemporary Japanese Architect. This research is focused of projects of SANAA, Ito Toyo, Sou Fujimoto, because they have spatial thought about realizing the space through the ways organizing the various potential possibilities in the simple external form not stimulated. They are realize the 'becoming-space' within the architecture. This 'becoming-space' gives people in building the new characteristics and experience that potential interactions among user, architecture and nature. It is non-representational space not fixed, but changing organically and variably.

The purpose of this study is to present the use of traditional culture and the direction of various fashion designs by developing and producing contemporary fashion designs on the Muslim costumes of the Chinese Hui minority. Based on research methods, the cultural background was investigated and the design characteristics were summarized. Based on the results of this survey, 4 sets of women's fashion were designed. The design intent was to feature Muslim traditional costumes and to adopt a functional contemporary design. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, simple and indecisive clothing shows the innocent and good side of the congregation. In this study, traditional dresses were used to make use of the simple silhouette and color, and to create a contemporary atmosphere, various materials, such as wool, glossy industrial complex, lace, and fur were used to create a modern sense design by adding diversity to the simple silhouette. Second, the biggest feature of the regimented Muslim costume focuses on a head cover and suggests a contemporary sense of hood improvement, and a design that can be used with two sides. These hooded head covers can provide fashion and diversity and can be proposed as functional. Third, contemporary Muslim fashion is gaining global attention and it is possible to develop various fashion designs based on traditional motifs. This study was able to increase the feminine image by changing the solemnity of the communal dress without discarding the foundation of the traditional religious culture based on the daily dress of the people.

Most of the furniture in the past was dedicated to its original use such as storage and accommodation of articles or sitting tools, but the concept of furniture in contemporary indoor spaces is gradually increasing in its meaning while exchanging close impacts with other spatial components. Indeed, in contemporary furniture, a component other than furniture constituting a space would sometimes serve the common roles of furniture or sometimes furniture would include all indoor objects used to make people's living more convenient. This study reviewed the meaning of furniture and changes in its roles in contemporary indoor spaces and summarized the characteristics presenting a few examples. First, in contemporary indoor spaces, furniture as an independent object does not having a meaning any more. The fusion of functions with other components constituting indoor spaces is the most important characteristics in contemporary furniture and it has been already attempted in diverse ways through fusion with buildings surpassing fusion with other pieces of furniture or electric home appliances. Second, the arrangement conforming to the roles required by spaces and diverse forms of attempts are essential. Since furniture is an item the most closely related to human residential life, studies on human behaviors in spaces must precede. The efforts to enhance work efficiencies and used limited spaces more efficiently will be continued and explorations of new forms should be also continued. Third, with regards to manufacturing methods, new technologies should be applied more widely and furniture materials must be diversified through the use of new materials including not only cutting-edge new materials but also all the materials that can be applied to furniture such as conventional natural materials and environment friendly materials that can be recycled.

Since the early stages of philosophy in ancient Greece, reason has prevailed over sensation, based on the idea that it was the recognition of the ideal world existing as the archetype of objects. Abstract concepts followed geometric models, though they be invisible. However, from the beginning of 20th century, people began to be interested in the idea in metaphysical philosophy, that reason might not be a characteristic best representing the human spirit, and that a human being is composed of emotion, desire and the physical body, in addition to reason. The study shows that paintings and constructional space have shown similar changes through the stream of time, and have a synchronistic relationship within the range of the formative arts, based on the contemporary philosophy. First of all, it defines the change of contemporary thought and its analysis words. And consider the Corporality which is one characteristic of contemporary thought. This study shows the characteristic of the Corporality in the architectural space of Rem Koolhaas whom it selected the architecture who is influenced by Post-structuralism. In conclusion, It compares paintings and architectural space and looks into the correlations among them in the category of the Corporality which is a pont of view from contemporary thought. As a result of the comparison, the Corporality in paintings is defined as (1) An escape form Reason, (2) An emphasis of experienced events and (3) A destruction of forms. It defines the architectural space of Rem Koolhaas corresponding with the Corporality in paintings has a characteristic of (1) The space of Body without Organs, (2) Becoming spatial concept of events and (3) An Unrestrained Form.
