  • In this study, nonlinear vibration analysis of the cylindrical orthotropic porous thin plate under V-shaped tension distribution with wire impact damping is considered. We make dynamic model of the plate under the tension using commercial FEM code and reduce the number of its degrees of freedom using dynamic condensation. The dynamic model of wire is obtained as lumped mass model from string equation. And then we analyze the nonlinear vibration of the plate including the impact phenomenon between the plate and the wire using the reduced mass and stiffness matrices of the plate and lumped model of the wire. The contact phenomenon between them can be described by impact contact elements composed of contact stiffness coefficients from Hertzian contact theory and contact damping coefficients from restitution coefficient between them. And we discussed the results of nonlinear vibration analysis for variations of their design parameters.

  • The dynamic contact model of a beam that contacts to a rigid wall in a reactor core was studied. The gap between the beam and contact wall results in dynamic contact accompanying inequality constraints. The inequality constraints can be relieved to an equality constraint problem by introducing a convex Penalty function. In this work, a beam with contact condition is formulated using quasi-convex penalty function and numerically solved. General coordinate solution is adopted to raise computational efficiency. Also nonlinearity is examined In the beam contacting to a rigid wall.

  • For the analysis of dynamic contact between a catenary and a pantograph of high-speed electrical train, the numerical solution of the equations of motion of the vehicle pantograph and the catenary system subjected to the contact condition is obtained. The whole equations of motion of the catenary and the pantograph are simultaneously time integrated with the strict application of the contact condition. For the stability of the numerical solution, with the cubic spline interpolation of the catenary displacement, the velocity and acceleration constraints as well as the displacement constraint are imposed on the contact point. Especially it is shown that the Coriolis and centripetal accelerations are critical for the accuracy and stability of the computation.

  • Vibration of rotating machinery is a factor that is something to do with abnormal machinery. Former days, Perception of vibration at rotating machinery had used Shaft rider type. Shaft rider type was adhered to surface of shaft and detected vibration of rotating machinery. Recently, Perception of vibration at rotating machinery uses to non-contact sensor. Working principle of non-contact sensor is used of eddy current. Vibration at rotating machinery appears to deviation of eddy current. In this paper, We investigate abnormal vibration due to non-contact sensor.

  • An experimental method based on contact resonance is developed to extract the contact parameters of mechanical joints under various clamped conditions. Mechanical joint parameters of shear contact stiffness and damping were extracted for different physical joint parameters such as surface finish of the mating surfaces, the presence of lubrication, the effect of the clamping pressure, and shear load. It was found that the shear contact stiffness values decreased with increasing clamping load and increased with increasing shear loading. Contact damping ratio values were almost constant with clamping load, but decreased with increasing shear load. Moreover, rough surfaces exhibited the highest shear stiffness and contact damping compared to smooth surfaces.

  • The indirect-contact ECG measurement is a newly developed method for unconstrained and nonconscious measurement in daily life. This study introduced a new method of electrode circuit design developed for reducing the 60Hz power line noise observed at the indirect-contact ECG measurement. By the introduced common-mode-driven shielding, the voltage of the electrical shield surrounding the capacitive coupling electrode is maintained at the same as the common mode voltage. Though the method cannot reduce the level of common mode voltage itself, that reduces effectively the differential mode noise converted from the common mode voltage by the difference of cloth impedance between the two capacitive coupling electrode. The experiment results using the actual indirect-contact ECG showed that the 60Hz power line noise was reduced remarkably though the reduction ratio was smaller than the expected by the theory. Especially, the reduction ratio became large for the large difference of cloth. It is expected that the introduced method is useful for reducing the power line noise under condition of poor electrical grounding.

  • In this paper the noise characteristics of metro train is investigated experimentally. It is primarily aimed at observing the squealing noise radiation of each wheel when the vehicle pass the curve sections. This will be used to understand the noise excitation mechanism at the contact area between squealing wheels and rails which induce squeal noise at curve sections. To identify the related key parameters and boundary conditions on-board monitorings of the noise, vibration of the wheel and bogie and displacement behaviour of the wheels and rails have been done. In this paper only noise measurement and results are discussed. From spectrogramms squeal noise due to creepage and noise due to flange contact of the wheels could be identified. At the moment of the curve passing the highest squeal levels are found on the front inner wheel. However since curve noise depends on variable factors more analyses will be followed to identify the squealing wheels and the noise excitation.

  • The demand for three-dimensional (3D) shape measurements is increasing in a variety of fields, including the manufacture of molds and dies. The most popular technology for 3D shape measurement is the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with a contact trigger probe. Although a CMM provides a high degree of accuracy, it is inefficient due to its long measuring time. It also has difficulty measuring soft objects that can be deformed by the touch of the contact probe. In addition, a CMM cannot digitize areas that are difficult to reach, and cannot capture very minute details on the surface of complex parts. For these reasons, optical non-contact measurement techniques are receiving more attention since they eliminate most of the problems associated with contact methods. Laser scanning is emerging as one of the more promising non-contact measurement techniques. This paper describes various acquisition considerations for laser scanning, including the accuracy of the 3D scan data, which depends on the charge-coupled device (CCD) gain and noise. The CCD gain and noise of a 3D laser scanner are varied while keeping the other conditions constant, and the measurement results are compared to the dimensions of a standard model. The experimental results show that a considerable time savings and an optimum degree of accuracy are possible by selecting the proper CCD gain and noise.

  • In this study, the dynamic analysis of a beam is analyzed by using the finite element method when the beam has moving mass and axial load. To consider the contact force between the moving mass and beam, coupled nonlinear equations of contact dynamics are derived, and then the weak form for the finite element method is established. The finite element computer programs based on the Lagrange multiplier method are developed to compute the contact force. Furthermore, a variety of simulations are performed for various design parameters such as moving mass velocity, compressive axial load and tension load. Finally, relations between the dynamic response and contact force are also discussed.

  • Partial rotor rub occurs when an obstacle on the stator of a rotating machinery disturbs the free whirling motion of a rotor, which is more common than full annular rub for the cases of rubbing in rotating machinery. The nonlinearity due to the intermittent contacts and friction during partial rotor rub makes the phenomenon complex. The several nonlinear phenomena of superharmonics, subharmonics, and jump phenomenon are demonstrated for the partial rub using an experimental apparatus in this study. A piecewise-linear model and a rebound model using the coefficient of restitution are investigated on the basis of experimental observations in order to adopt as an analytical model of the contact between the rotor and stator during whirling motion. The contact stiffness, coefficient of restitution, and friction coefficient for the contact during partial rub are calculated from the comparison between the numerical simulation and the experimental results. Also, the numerical simulations for the model of partial rub are done for the various system parameters of clearance, contact stiffness, and friction coefficient in order to find the nonlinear behavior of partial rotor rub.
