The windshield wiper consists of 4 parts: a blade, an arm, a linkage and a motor. The wiper blade makes contact with the windshield and is designed to be operated normally at an angle of 30~50 degrees to the front glass. If the contact pressure between the wiper blade and windshield surface is too high, noise and wear of the rubber will result. On the other hand, if the contact pressure is too low, the performance will do badly, since foreign substances such as dust and stains will not be removed well. The pressure and friction of the wiper blade has a great influence on its effectiveness in cleaning the front window. This is due to the contact of the rubber with the window. This paper presents the dynamic analysis method to estimate the performance of the flat type blade of the wiper system. The blade has a nonlinear characteristic since the rubber is an incompressible hyper-elastic and visco-elastic material. Thus, Structural dynamic analysis using a complex contact model for the blade is performed to find the characteristics of the blade. The flexible multi-body dynamic model is verified by the comparison between test and analysis result. Also, the optimization using the central composite design table is performed.

There are several methods to obtain structural vibration for analysis of vibro-acoustic noise. First of all, vibration data can be obtained through the structural analysis using finite element method. Although this method has no need to experiment, the analysis result is unreliable when the structure and the vibration source is complex to model exactly. The second method is to measure vibration using a number of sensors. The analyzed vibro-acoustic noise with directly measured data is setting morereliable when the number of data acquisition points is getting larger. However, it requires large amount of time and effort to measure all vibration data on every node especially when the size of vibrating structure is large. The Modal Expansion Method(MEM), which uses mode information and measurement data, has been introduced to compensate their limits. With a relatively small number of measurement data, the reliable structural vibration for vibro-acoustic noise can be obtained using this semi-analysis method. Although MEM gives reliable result, it is restricted by the number of modes and measurement points. In this paper, structural analysis, direct vibration measurement method and MEM are compared using the simple aluminum box model. Furthermore, the washing machine case is also provided as a comparative example. The Laser Doppler Vibrometer(LDV) was used instead of contact type accelerometer to get vibration data.

Acoustic problems in the environment have gained attention due to the noise and vibration contact often in industry as well as life on modem society. Noise is one of safety element in industry, this proves damaging to humans from both a physical and a psychological aspect and so drop working efficiency. Various noises are happened from machines of manufacturing process in PCB industry. This paper present a new approach for subband feedback Active Noise Control (ANC) using Mel scale for headset system in PCB industry. The proposed Mel scale subband algorithm had a performance advantage over the subband algorithm in the noise attenuation and convergence time.
There is a kind of abnormal noise known to come from the stick-slip mechanism induced by frictional impulses during the sliding of two polymeric plates. In this work, quantitative analysis of abnormal noise is carried out based on experimental results. Some combinations of polymer plates, such as an ABS base-plate contacted to ABS, PP, MIPS, and POM plates, which are well-known materials used in home-appliances, are studied to obtain the best combination of polymer plates in order to reduce the abnormal noise. For the experiments, a rig for the test was set up and a methodology was proposed. In addition, the effects of the surface roughness of the plate, the normal loading force, and the relative sliding speed between the two contact plates were evaluated in order to understand the reason for the abnormal noise. Through this experimental work, the optimal combination of materials was ABS/POM system to reduce the noise in real industrial applications.
An important source of noise from railways is rolling noise caused by wheel and rail vibrations induced by acoustic roughness at the wheel-rail contact. The main contributors to rolling noise are the sleepers, rail, and wheels. In order to analyze and predict rolling noise, it is necessary to understand the vibrating behaviors of railway tracks, as well as of the wheels. In the present paper, theoretical modeling methods for railway track are reviewed in terms of rolling noise; these methods are applied for the three representative types of domestic railway tracks operated: the conventional ballasted track, KTX ballasted track and KTX concrete track. The characteristics of waves propagating along rails are investigated and compared among the types of tracks. The tracks are modeled as discretely supported Timoshenko beams and are compared in terms of the averaged squared amplitude of velocity, which is directly related to the sound radiation from the rails.

The main function of Ball-Stop part is to operate power shift for vehicle with more than 5 ton when a driver changes gear using suitable force. This paper presents the implementation of a DFSS(Design For Six Sigma) for robust design of Ball-Stop part of power shift. The factors influencing Ball-Stop part performance is derived to find control factor. Based on this factor, contact force between head and detent pin analysis is performed to get optimal factor is analyzed and compared with contact force test result to verify reliability of design. This makes clear the reason why the proposed one is necessary and the role of DFSS.

For a development of non-contact magnet gear which is magnetized as a helical shape, a method of 3-dimensional FEM analysis is used. An elementary technique required for magnetic property analysis and parts design about magnet gear is ensured. In order to test a performance of clean conveyor and turning device which is composed with magnet gear, a clean class 10 environment booth is used for a trial test. It is verified that the magnet conveyor can be acceptable under a condition of clean class 10 by a result of trial test about transfer speed, maximum torque permission, cleanness, maximum transfer weight, existence of hunting and degree of noise.
A brief description of the current technology (contact-start-stop) employed in most of today's hard disk drive is presented. The dynamics and head/disk interactions during a start/stop process are very complicated and no one has been able to accurately model the interactions. Thus, the head/disk interface that meets the start/stop durability and stiction requirements are always developed statistically. In arriving at a solution. many sets of statistical tests are run by varying several parameters. such as, the carbon overcoat thickness. lubricant thickness. disk surface roughness, etc. Consequently, the cost associated III developing an interface could be significant since the outcome is difficult to predict. An alternative method known as Load/Unload technology alters the problem set. such that. the start/stop performance can be designed in a predictable manner. Although this techno¬logy offers superior performance and significantly reduces statistical testing time, it also has some potential problems. However. contrary to the CSS technology. most of the problems can be solved by design and not by trial and error. One critical problem is that of head/disk contacts during the loading and unloading processes. These contact can cause disk and slider damage because the contacts are likely to occur at high disk speeds resulting in large friction forces. Use of glass substrate disks also may present problems if not managed correctly. Due to the low thermal conductivity of glass substrates. any head/disk contacts may result in erasure due to frictional heating of the head/disk interface. In spite of these and other potential problems. the advantage with L/UL system is that these events can be understood. analyzed. and solved in a deterministic manner.
This research presents a nonlinear model to analyze the ball bearing nitration due to the waviness in a rigid rotor supported by multi-row ball bearings. The waviness of a ball and each races is modeled by the superposition of sinusoidal function, and the position vectors of inner and outer groove radius center are defined with respect to the mass center of the rotor in order to consider five degrees of freedom of a general rotor-bearing system. The waviness of a ball bearing is introduced to these position vectors to use the Hertzian contact theory in order to calculate the elastic deflection and nonlinear contact force resulting from the waviness while the rotor has translational and angular motion. They can be determined by solving the nonlinear equations of motion with five degrees of freedom by using the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg algorithm. Numerical results of this research are validated with those of prior researchers. The proposed model can calculate the translational displacement as well as the angular displacement of the rotor supported by the multi-row ball bearings with waviness. It also characterizes the nitration frequencies resulting from the various kinds of waviness in rolling elements, the harmonic frequencies resulting from the nonlinear load-deflection characteristics of ball bearing. and the sideband frequencies resulting from the waviness interaction.

To establish eye contact in video teleconferencing, it is necessary to synthesize a front view image by viewpoint interpolation. We can find the viewing direction of a user, and interpolate an image seen from that viewpoint, which will result in a face image observed from the front. There are two categories of previous research: image based method and model based method. The former is simple to calculate, however, it shows limited performance for complex objects. And the latter is robust to noise while it is computationally expensive. We propose to approximate face images as ellipses and match them to build an ellipsoid and then synthesize a new image from a given virtual camera position. We show that it is simple and robust from various experiments.
