  • Apenetrating head injury by an arrow is extremely rare being only two cases reported in the literature. We report a case of 12-year-old boy who presented with an arrow lodged at the posterior fossa through nasal nostril. He was slightly drowsy, but neurologically intact except a sixth nerve palsy in the left eye. Brain CT showed no intracerebral hemorrhage. The arrow was entered through the right nostril and the tip was stucked in the left cere-bello-pontine angle through the sphenoid sinus. We removed the arrow without craniotomy since the tip was verified smooth and no cerebral arteries were in contact with the arrow. The patient recovered well without any significant complications. The sixth nerve palsy resolved completely after six months. The verification of the shape of the offending material, a retrograde removal of the arrow in the direction of its line of trajectory, and an identification of adjacent cerebral arteries seem to be important in the management of this type of injury.

  • The elderly rate in South Korea in 2015 is over 13.1%. Especially, the elderly rate in rural area is high. Senior community project in rural that is being promoted by the government. This study's purpose is to provide the reserch group-home for the elderly in Japan rural area. And this paper provided planning of group-home for the elderly in Korea rural area. For this study, respective 5senior housing of Korea and Japan were chosen as respresenting two nations, and every manager was interviewed on housing pattern. This study suggests the planning material as following. First, the effectiveness of the group-home are big. Especially, the elderly was far healthier. Design point is public space(living room, small living room, etc). Maybe, healthy group-home concept is that would be design by Korean traditional housing. Also important public space design is that would be inner courtyard-house, wood floor, Deachong, etc. Two group-homes will construct elderly welfare facilities in between. Otherwise that is need layout of a big public space. In the case of vacant house can used by considering of scale, structure, site condition. Closed school can used through so easy remodeling too. More often than not complex type(hospital, community heath center) was appeared in Japan rural area. In the case of Korea, recommend complex type in community health center and public building. In this case, considering communication, access, contact, group-home keeps on ground floor. In this paper, we hope to take a lesson from group-home planning source for the elderly in Korea rural area.

  • The rubblization technique is breaking the aged concrete pavement slab into rubblized concrete aggregate, and use it as an base material at its original position, then builds overlay above the rubblized base. This method has been successively used in USA due to the advantage of good contructibility, cost-effectiveness as well as the capability of preventing of reflection cracks. However, constructibility and economic performance of rubblization on typical Korean concrete pavements needed to be investigate since to typical Korean concrete pavements have thick slab, as well include lean concrete subbase course. This stud explored optimum breaking depth and suggested minimum 10cm based on reflection crack simulation test. Also proper head shape and impact energy were investigated based on small breaking field tests. It was found that $127kg/cm^2$ of stress with 52.3% of head contact area are breaking requirement. Also, Multi-head type breaker suitable for Korean condition was designed and developed. This multi-head type breaker was designed to rubblize old concrete to the suggested optimum rubblized-depth and rubblized-concrete-aggregate size to prevent reflection crack and maintain high bearing capacity. This machine was used for the test of rubblization of old concrete pavement on a non-use old concrete and a in-serviced road. In these two tests, engineering properties of rubblized base and constructability and cost were investigated. In both tests, the old concrete rubblized to targeted size and depth, and high-level bearing capacity was achieved. Also, superior constructability and lower cost compared with traditional reconstruction was examined.

  • Bentonite buffer is one of the major components of an engineered barrier for an HLW (High-Level Waste) repository. The bentonite buffer is significantly exposed to the decay heat from radioactive wastes, the inflow of groundwater from the surrounding rock of the repository, and the high swelling pressure of densely-compacted bentonite that comes in contact with the groundwater. Therefore, it is essential to understand the THM (Thermal-Hydro-Mechanical) behavior of the bentonite buffer and to acquire the input data of its related constitutive models for the performance and safety assessment of an HLW repository. This paper analyzed the THM properties which have been obtained by conducting laboratory tests with a candidate buffer material for a Korean HLW repository. Moreover the formulation recipe of the reference bentonite buffer was defined on the basis of functional criteria, thus suggesting the THM properties which correspond to the formulation recipe of the reference bentonite buffer.

  • Bacteria exist everywhere and continuously come into contact with daily surroundings and humans. Super bacterium methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, resistant to methicillin, has recently appeared. The morbidity and rate of death associated with super bacteria infection has increased. This study investigated the antibacterial activity of fabrics naturally dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa leaves extract against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Fabrics were left for 15 min in a natural dyeing solution prepared by extraction from C. obtusa leaves using 11.3% (o.w.f) with a fixed liquor ratio of 1:22 at $40^{\circ}C$. The dyeing process was conducted using three different mordants; subsequently, the K/S value of the dyed fabrics increased in the order of None < Cu < Fe < Al. The color fastness property of the fabrics to washing, dry-cleaning, and rubbing was found to be excellent and ranked in the 4-5 grade. The color fastness to light of natural dyeing is low in most cases and has the problem that the dye color soon becomes bleached. Yet, in most cases cloth dyed with retinispora leaves, the color fastnezz to light was good with a third to fourth grade. Non-mordant fabrics, aluminum mordants, and copper mordants also showed better antibacterial properties (99.9% reduction) against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, compared to the control fabrics. The dyed fabrics showed the same antibacterial activity even after three washes. The results highlight the strong potential of fabrics naturally dyed with C. obtusa-extract as a medicinal material with excellent antibacterial function against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

  • By developing a computer program for the systematic design of worm gears, the design formulae and tables of AGMA, JGMA, BS and DIN are analized and compared. The computer program can be used on micro-computers. According to the input data of the reduction ratio, the center distance. the driving torque and the material as design parameters, the program calculate the most efficient worm gear dimension. The variation of the design parameters and other empirical coefficients in case of resulting an inadequate design gear dimension can be easily modified throuth the way of interactive method between the user and the monitoring system of computer. A proposal of the standardization of worm gears was made in which a standard module according to the DIN 323 standard series number was applied. For the more exact and effective calculation of the stress concentration and the deformation of gear teeth, a computer program using the boundary element method is also developed. Even the strength of the special gear shape such as Niemann's "Cavex" gear can be calculated in a short CPU-time. The most effort of this study has been layed on the developing a computer program for the correction of a tooth profile and face width which is most important design factor for an exact and wide teeth contacts under loads, especially by great and wide gears. For this purpose were investigated the tooth stiffness, the mesh interferences and the kinematics and the dynamics of gear mesh. The deflection and the deformation of the gear shaft due to the loads acting on gear and shaft were aslo considered. Some examples have shown the sufficient good status of teeth contact in which the correction of the tooth profile and face width were accomplished due to the calculated results.d results.

  • Biodiesel and biodiesel blend fuel are receiving increasing attention as alternative fuels for diesel engines without substantial modifications. Biodiesel fuels and blending have been widely studied and applied in diesel engine because of biodiesel's lower sulfur, lower aromatic hydrocarbon and higher oxygen content. Biodiesels have the potential to be oxidized in different condition. It has reported that oxidation deterioration of biodiesel is different in the condition of storage and oxidation causes chemical property change of methyl esters. Sunlight intensity, temperature, material of container and contact surface with oxygen are key dominant factors accelerating oxidation deterioration. In this study, we chose temperature among key oxidation conditions and metal container filled with biodiesel was heated at about $110^{\circ}C$ for 10 days in order to accelerate oxidation deterioration. To better understand the effect of biodiesel blends on emission, steady state tests were conducted on a heavy duty diesel engine. The engine was fueled with Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel(ULSD), a blend of 10% and 20%(BD10, BD20) on volumetric basis, equipped with a common rail direct injection system and turbocharger, lives up to the requirements of EURO 3. The experimental results show that the blend fuel of normal biodiesel with BD10 and BD20 increased NOx. The result of PM was similar to diesel fuel on BD10, but the result of PM on BD20 was increased about 63% more than its of diesel. The blend fuel of Oxidation biodiesel with BD10 and BD20 increased NOx as the results of normal biodiesel. But PM was all increased on BD10 and BD20. Especially THC was extremely increased when test fuel contains biodiesel about 140% more than its of diesel. Through this study, we knew that oxidation deterioration of biodiesel affects emission of diesel engine.

  • Silicon nitride ceramic has been verified as an excellent rolling bearing material because of its high strength and outstanding rolling fatigue life properties. However under some corrosive circumstances it showed drawbacks such as hardness reduction and severe wear caused by corrosion. In this work, the variations of the rolling wear and hardness of three kinds of ceramics were studied for the specimen aged 15 days in alkali water (90 $\pm$ 2$\^{C}$,25 wt% NaOH ). All of the specimens, ① Si$_3$N$_4$, ② 3Y-TZP and ③ 3Y-TZP alloyed with 5 wt% CeO$_2$, were sintered and post-HIPed, and then polished up to 0.02 $\mu$mRa of surface roughness. Rolling wear tests were conducted by MJ type rolling fatigue life tester under the initial theoretical maximum contact stress of 3.16 GPa and the spindle speed of 1,000 rpm. Spindle oil was used as a lubricant. The specimens were not worn before aging. For the specimen aged in alkali water, Si$_3$N$_4$ and 3Y-TZP were worn by rolling wear tests, and hardness was decreased. While aging the specimens, the phase was transformed from tetragonal to monoclinic in 3Y-TZP and the microstructure change occurred in Si$_2$N$_4$. 3Y-TZP specimens alloyed with 5 wt% CeO$_2$ were not worn after aging and no phase transformation occurred while aging.

  • Even though the fabrication methods of metal oxide based thin film capacitor have been well established such as RF sputtering, Sol-gel, metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) and pulsed laser deposition (PLD), an applicable capacitor of printed circuit board (PCB) has not realized yet by these methods. Barium Strontium Titanate (BST) and other high-k ceramic oxides are important materials used in integrated passive devices, multi-chip modules (MCM), high-density interconnect, and chip-scale packaging. Thin film multi-layer technology is strongly demanded for having high capacitance (120 nF/$mm^2$). In this study, we suggest novel multi-layer thin film capacitor design and fabrication technology utilized by plasma assisted deposition and photolithography processes. Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 (BST) was used for the dielectric material since it has high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss. 5-layered BST and Pt thin films with multi-layer sandwich structures were formed on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate by RF-magnetron sputtering and DC-sputtering. Pt electrodes and BST layers were patterned to reveal internal electrodes by photolithography. SiO2 passivation layer was deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PE-CVD). The passivation layer plays an important role to prevent short connection between the electrodes. It was patterned to create holes for the connection between internal electrodes and external electrodes by reactive-ion etching (RIE). External contact pads were formed by Pt electrodes. The microstructure and dielectric characteristics of the capacitors were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and impedance analyzer, respectively. In conclusion, the 0402 sized thin film multi-layer capacitors have been demonstrated, which have capacitance of 10 nF. They are expected to be used for decoupling purpose and have been fabricated with high yield.

  • The Buseok pluton in the Yeongju Batholith is a comagmatic plutonic rocks which haveconcentrically compositional zoning. The lithofacies of the Buseok pluton comprise hornblende biotite tonalite in the southern part of the pluton, porphyritic and equigranular biotite granodiorite in the northern part and biotite granite in the north-central part. The compositional variations change gradually with continuity both within and between the lithofacies. The concentrically zoned pattern is relatively mafic rocks composed of high-temperature mineral assemblages in margin of the southern part, passing inward and northward gradually to more felsic rock in core of the north-central part. Changes in the textures and microstructures, as well as in the mineral content, take place between rock types of the plutons. Darker colored, generally coarse-grained, well foliated tonalite pass inward to light colored, coarse-grained, poorly foliated granodiorite, and finally give way to lighter colored, medium-grained, nearly nonfoliated granite. The foliation are best developed in the marginal part of the tonalite. Here, the regional myolitic foliation in the tonalite is steep northward and parallels to its southeastern contact with the country rock, but the magmatic foliation from disc-shaped mafic microgranitoid enclaves is subvertical and parallels the contacts with the country rock. As the tonalite approaches biotite granite in composition, the foliation is indistinct. Modal and chemical data for the pluton show quantitative compositional variation from the margin of the southern part to the core of the north-central part. Quartz and K-feldspar increase toward the core of the pluton, whereas hornblende, biotite and color index decrease. /Abundances of $SiO_2$and $K_2O$$_2$O increase toward the core according to the variation in quartz and K-feldspar, whereas those of MnO, CaO, $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO and $P_2O_5$ decrease corresponding to the variation in mafic and accessaries. The compositional zonation resulted from fractional crystallization involving downward settling of earlier crystals, accompanied by upward movement of melt and volatiles, and followed by accessary marginal accretion of crystalline material in the magma to the marginal part. Although a little crustal contamination by the wall rock is recognized from the isotope data, the contamination is not only dominated over but also appropriate for forming the compositional variation in the pluton.
