In line with the construction projects, which have been increasingly getting larger and complex, safety accident has been on the rise, particularly those in association with the construction equipment. In a bid to prevent the safety accident, it's needed to analyze the cause of such accidents. The thesis was intended to identify the cause of safety accident by reviewing the cases of construction disaster complied by Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency. The cases subject to study were limited to the accident by excavator. Summarizing the study is as follows. 1) Among the cause of accidents caused by excavator were, in order of high frequency, being caught in equipment or machine, falling, being crashed or bumped. 2) Among the causes of accident were, in order of high frequency, worker's unauthorized presence within the range of equipment operation. inappropriate use, failure of equipment inspection prior to starting work and inappropriate work method. The study is highly expected to pave the foundation for further study as well as to make commitment to mitigating the safety accident.
Purpose: This study was designed to provide necessary institutional improvements for job security for foreign workers in the domestic construction sector. Method: I analyzed the National Statistical Office and related reports to investigate the status of foreign workers. Based on this, the government came up with measures to improve the system. Results: Based on the current comparative advantage index (RCA) analysis, the technology standard of foreign workers compared to Korean workers was evaluated, and the results were analyzed in order of moldwork, rebar, concrete work, stone work, and waterproof work. Conclusion: A foreign worker's work system was introduced to solve the problem of local Lunar New Year's Day field manpower. To ensure stable implementation of the system, there is a need to improve the operation of the employment permit system at construction sites and limit the size of the construction industry that introduces the employment permit system.

Recently, various efforts have been tried in the construction industry to improve productivity by applying the fourth industrial revolution technology. Among the various technologies, researches for the automation and digitization of earthworks are being carried out steadily. As the interest in the benefits of digitalization of the earthwork field has increased, there have been more cases of technology development and application for digitalization of the earthwork field. However, there is not enough case study to present the analysis results of application cases. The purpose of this study is to verify the feasibility of applying the digitization technology of the earthwork in actual worksite. In order to digitize the worksite terrain, it is required the process of field measurement, measurement data registration, earthwork information input, and analysis cell generation. Particularly, it is possible to achieve information-enabled digitization rather than digitalizing only the shape through the input of the earthwork information and the analysis cell generation. By using the digital information of the earthwork field, it is possible to visually recognize the change of the earthwork field, so that it is expected to enhance the worker 's understanding and to be highly applicable to the management work. It is expected that the digital technology of earthwork site will be able to know the precise amount of volume change of the earthwork numerically, and it will be highly applicable to construction management.

The Act on the Punishment of Serious Accidents to Prevent Large-scale Disasters, including Ferry Sewol and Taean Thermal Power Plant, passed the National Assembly on January 8, 2021, and has been in effect since January 27, 2022. However, the law, in which the representative of the headquarters is unlimitedly responsible for each worker's accident, is somewhat unreasonable at a time when a company owns dozens to hundreds of construction sites due to the nature of the construction industry. I agree with the purpose of enacting the law to reduce chronic serious accidents at construction sites, but it is necessary to carefully reconsider the implementation of the law in that punishment alone cannot achieve industrial safety. Previous studies focused on revising the Occupational Safety and Health Act, but there are few studies on the impact on the construction industry after the implementation of the Serious Accident Act. Therefore, this study attempts to derive problems related to the application of the Serious Accident Act and present improvement measures. To this end, after analyzing previous studies, SWOT analysis was performed by applying the Delphi method to derive strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. In addition, the results of two surveys of safety experts such as public institutions, academia, and companies were reflected, and its countermeasures were presented as follows. S/O strategy: establishing on-site execution capabilities of health and safety management system; W/O strategy: expanding legal and system execution checks; S/T strategy: establishing a risk response system; W/T strategy: expanding consulting by external specialized institutions

This research investigates the deployment of waterproofing technologies in construction, with a specific focus on augmenting worker safety, work environment, and solve the difficulty of securing skilled workers. Implementing liquid waterproofing cement equipment resulted in a remarkable increase in adhesion performance by around 20%, coupled with a twofold acceleration in operational speed. The application of primer spraying apparatus led to a two-fold improvement in both penetration and adhesion performance, concurrently boosting the work speed by approximately the same factor. With urethane spraying equipment, the workload could be reduced to a third for the same layer thickness, adhesion performance enhanced by approximately 1.4 times, and workability improved by about 1.4 to 1.5 times. These findings suggest that such technological interventions can potentially enhance work efficiency, improve the quality of output, and mitigate safety accidents that are commonplace in manual operations. Furthermore, these advancements present promising solutions to the ongoing challenges of sourcing highly-competent workers in the industry.

Although many research efforts have been conducted to address the effect of crew members' work skills (e.g., technical and planning skills) on work performance (e.g., work duration and quality) in construction projects, the relationship between skill and performance has generated a great deal of controversy in the field of management (Inkpen and Crossan 1995). This controversy can lead to under- or over-estimations of the overall project schedule, and can make it difficult for project managers to implement appropriate managerial policies for enhancing project performance. To address this issue, the following aspects need to be considered: (a) work performances are determined not only by individual-level work skill but also by the group-level work skill affected by work team members, each member's role, and any working behavior pattern; (b) work planning has significant effects on to what extent work skill enhances performance; and (c) different types of activities in construction require different types of work, skill, and team composition. This research, therefore, develops a system dynamics (SD) model to analyze the effects of both individual-and group-level (i.e., multi-level) skill on performances by utilizing the advantages of SD in capturing a feedback process and state changes, especially in human factors (e.g., attitude, ability, and behavior). The model incorporates: (a) a multi-level skill evolution and relevant behavior development mechanism within a work group; (b) the interaction among work planning, a crew's skill-learning, skill manifestation, and performances; and (c) the different work characteristics of each activity. This model can be utilized to implement appropriate work planning (e.g., work scope and work schedule) and crew management policies (e.g., work team composition and decision of each worker's role) with an awareness of crew's skill and work performance. Understanding the different characteristics of each activity can also support project managers in applying strategic work planning and crew management for a corresponding activity, which may enhance each activity's performance, as well as the overall project performance.

Objectives: Particulate matter (PM) at construction sites mostly originates from either construction activities or the atmospheric environment. This study was conducted to evaluate the exposure level to PM and the contribution ratio of atmosphere sources at construction sites. Methods: We reviewed literature and governmental systems related to PM exposure in occupational settings and summarized them. In the field evaluation, five construction sites and one golf course were selected: two from Gyeonggi-do Province and four from North Gyeongsang-do Province. For each site, personal samples from outdoor construction workers and area samples from the outdoor area around the construction site office were collected according to construction work types. PM concentrations reported from nearby National Ambient Air Monitoring Stations were recorded. Respirable dust concentrations, respirable silica concentrations, and several metal concentrations including Cd, Cr, Pb, and As were monitored over four months. In the end we suggested how to manage particulate matter exposure at construction sites. Results: There was little literature reporting on exposure levels of construction workers to PM. Respirable dust concentrations measured in Gyeonggi-do Province were higher than those measured in North Gyeongsang-do Province. The geometric means of respirable dust concentrations in personal samples and area samples were $37.89{\mu}g/m^3$ and $92.86{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. The respirable dust concentrations were higher than the PM concentrations reported from nearby National Ambient Air Monitoring Station. The geometric means of respirable silica concentrations of personal samples and area samples were $1.3{\mu}g/m^3$ and $1.1{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. All metal concentrations were lower than 10% of individual Korean occupational exposure limits. Conclusions: Assuming that personal samples consisted of ambient PM and dust originating from work activities and area samples only collected ambient PM, we concluded that the dust exposure of outdoor construction workers originated 40.8% from the atmosphere and 59.2% from construction activities. PM exposure at construction sites should be controlled by employers, as in the case of outdoor heat stress. The Korean government needs to consider setting an occupational exposure limit for respirable dust.

Construction accidents occur due to a number of reasons-worker carelessness, non-adoption of safety equipment, and failure to comply with safety rules are some examples. Because much construction work is done outdoors, weather conditions can also be a factor in accidents. Past construction accident data are useful for accident prevention, but since construction accident data are often in a text format consisting of natural language, extracting construction hazards from construction accident data can take a lot of time and that entails extra cost. Therefore, in this study, we extracted construction hazards from 2,026 domestic construction accident reports using text mining and performed a seasonal analysis of construction hazards through frequency analysis and centrality analysis. Of the 254 construction hazards defined by Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, we extracted 51 risk factors from the construction accident data. The results showed that a significant hazard was "Formwork" in spring and autumn, "Scaffold" in summer, and "Crane" in winter. The proposed method would enable construction safety managers to prepare better safety measures against outdoor construction accidents according to weather, season, and climate.
Fast development of ubiquitous technology prompted the broadening of the related application area. Application of ubiquitous techniques and system into the construction sites may give us many benefits. There are always a lot of hazard situations in construction sites, and the falling is known to have the high accident rate. To prevent the falling, there has been a lot of efforts including safety education and use of safety gears. In this study, we designed, fabricated and tested a system that can monitor the worker's safety and location informations in real time by using the wireless technology of TOA and RSSI. We used ATmegal28 that is popular in the industrial equipments as MCU and NanoPan 5357 module from Nanotron and CC2500 chipset from TI for radio circuits. We also used 3-axis accelerometer and pressure MEMS sensors to obtain the environmental information, and therefore to aquire the informations of the worker's movement and altitude. We used Labview software from National Instrument to monitor and control the system. We developed the system to send the warning alarms to the server operator and the workers when the workers in the danger zone did not wear the safety hook.

Engaged number in the construction industry is 45 percentage level against to manufacturing industry. And Induction -factor of Production is much the same to mfg. field, Value added Induction-factor is more higher than manufacturing industry, therefore we research again about workers' inferior working & personal life condition in our society in order to they feel happiness their life with pride for the job construction occupation. So construction companies & government will be contribute to strengthen their phase & to achieve more higher level of construction working culture for elevate competitive power. We have to prepare the basis to turn to the qualitative construction businesses by break away from only the amount of work volume in company with the system of workers' self-conceit on the ground of professional education/training, qualification system, social insurance benefits, working condition improvement, stable job. Our nations does not feel well-being senses, only 25 class level in the 30 countries of OECD. We draw the questions at issue with slough off old customs in order to qualitative improvement for profession & self-contentment of construction workers, and present the useful plan to contribute to international competitiveness with our construction firms in the globalize construction field under Government's & company's policy.
