  • The construction industry in Korea has seen significant improvements in quality management techniques, driven by the dramatic development of new technology through enlargements, but compared with technical development, the level of building quality improvement is still lagging behind. Therefore, in this study, a work process and system improvement plan for payment regulations is proposed, with which contractors can secure quality voluntarily in the building construction project.

  • Purpose: This study investigates the effect of CRM activities of Korean equipment construction companies on the quality satisfaction perceived by consumers as an analysis method using Kano model. Methods: It use the Kano model to classify the quality characteristics of the CRM activities of equipment construction companies, focusing on consumer perception, and analyze the effect on the level of quality satisfaction perceived by consumers. Results: The results showed that most of quality attributes of CRM activities in the equipment companies were categorized as 'one-dimensional' quality. Conclusion: The CRM activities in equipment construction compaies is verified to be essential component of successful strategy to improve customer's satisfaction.

  • Safety management cost, $US\$$ one thousand billion has been input to the construction area from 1995 to 2000 but the management quality is still in the developing country level. The above mentioned increase of accident rate are attributed to the generous code regulation, net fit to the sense, varying with time change, but the more fundamental reason of this is no practical construction safety management system, up to now. Hardware-orienting operation for the system could be a main reason of this problem. In this paper, we developed a model for efficient construction safety system. It was found from the case study that the A Study on Introduction Application of Occupational Health & Safety Management System for Construction Industry.

  • This study performs analyzing a status of labor cost policy of public construction project and labor management information system in Korea for improving of labor cost survey in the construction market. The outcome of this study will be helpful to build a labor cost information system included the information of man-hour, regular pay and benefit, total wage. And if these result is integrated with the information of worker's career, qualification, skill level, it is confidently expected that the survey of labor cost is reliable.

  • The gang-form widely used in apartment construction sites has advantages compared to scaffolding in preventing falling accidents. One problem, however, is that safety accidents associated with gang-form works repeatedly occur due to worker carelessness. In this study, hierarchical checking tables are provided to support safety management activities for the gang-form works at the sites. Through a survey of experts and analyses of case studies of construction accidents, 137 safety check items are classified by participant type based on a hierarchical safety check scheme. The applicability and effectiveness of the hierarchical checking tables was evaluated through interviews with experts. It was found that the hierarchical checking tables enabled each gang-form related participant to check his own safety management items, and provided a level-wise structure to site safety management systems.

  • According to ACI 224.3R-95 (ACI, 2013), construction joints (cold joint) in the column are to be provided at the top of floor slab for column continuing to the next floor and underside of floor slab and beam. A recent study reveals that providing cold joint of the mentioned location significantly reduced the seismic performance of the frame structures. Since, the construction joints in multi-story frame structures normally provided at the top of the floor slabs and at soffit of the beam in the column. This study investigated the effect of construction joint at various location in the column of beam-column joint such as at the top of floor slab, soffit level of the beam, half the depth of beam below the soffit of the beam and at a full depth of the beam below the soffit of the beam. The study revealed that there is an improvement in seismic capacity of the specimens as the location of cold joint is placed away from the soffit of the beam for lower story column.

  • The prediction of quality characteristics during the design phase of a construction project was fragmented, because no particular method exists. One of the most important key responses is the total displacements (horizontal and vertical). A brainstorming session produces the quality parameters i.e. the control factors which here are identified as: the steel joint, the pile's length, the excavation depth and angle, the distance between the piles, the anchor stretch and length to name just some of the most engaging in the design. The purpose of this study is to optimise these parameters to minimize the total displacements following a methodology based on Taguchi method. For this reason, a 2-level, L8 orthogonal array has been employed to organize the experimentation. Data is obtained from a real-life excavation project designed on the Plaxis v.8 CAE package. Taguchi analysis is performed in the statistical package Minitab.

  • The Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 1999 (NSW) (the Act) is a unique form of statutory regulation for the building and construction industry, which gives virtually all industry participants a statutory right to, and a means of recovering, payments for work done under a construction contract. The research aim is to examine current trends in adjudication applications and determinations under the Act. The research reveals: (a) that the adjudication process is encouraging parties to resolve disputes as to payment (b) that there is low level of awareness and understanding of the provisions of the Act, particularly amongst subcontractors; (c) that claimants making small claims experience a high rate of success at adjudication; and (d) that the indirect cost of adjudication is becoming problematic.

  • As the business environment for construction enterprises has been worse, the level of their dependence on public projects increases. Under these circumstances, the public owners should pursue more efficient management process and make continuous efforts to establish strategic project-oriented organizations. There are growing concerns on owners' role with the recognition that the public owners are the key stakeholders to improve effectiveness in public sectors and reinforce competitiveness of entire industry. This study reviewed the characteristics of public construction projects with the concept of program, evaluated the current status of program management capabilities, and discussed the requirement for effective program management.
