  • SMART Frame is a composite precast concrete structure system to deliver the advantages of both steel frame and reinforced concrete. Many studies have established to date that SMART Frame is more advantageous than conventional frame-type structure in terms of structural stability, constructability, economic viability as well as reduction of construction schedule. However, such studies have focused primarily on wall-type or flat slab-type apartment housing structures, failing to include Rahmen structures in their scope. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the benefits of potential application of SMART Frame to RC Rahmen structures. As the structural stability and constructability of SMART Frame is already proven, this study reviews its benefits from the perspective of cost reduction. Conclusion of this study will be used subsequently in predicting the benefits of SMART Frame when it is adapted to RC Rahmen structures.

  • A small scale model reinforced soil wall was constructed in a laboratory to investigate role of the wall facing and the effect of construction sequence on the wall. A panel type facing system and a block facing system are introduced for test. These two different types of facing adapt different construction procedure. The model wall is built with geogrid reinforcement, sand, and the facings on rigid surface. The model wall is instrumented with earth pressure gauges, LVDTs, and strain gauges. It is found in this study that the reinforced soil wall system built with geogrids and panel type facing system be the safest reinforced soil wall ever compared to the block type facing. Thus, it is recommended that study for the wall system be necessary for further wide usage in the future.

  • This study reports the properties of high early strength & durability of concrete using PC admixture. To apply these data to construction site, we did the lab tests. The target of this study is to accomplish early strength of concrete(5.0 MPa/18 hr), and we did the durability tests such as length change test, chloride ion penetration test, adiabatic test, etc. PC type was more excellent than PNS type admixture. According to these tests, we concluded that we can apply this type of PC admixture to the civil & construction site, and we can reduce the term of works and finally we can accomplish the economical construction.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study on the construction of environmentally friendly roadbed by reinforcing type soil solidification agent. The soil amendment agent used in this study is friendly to the environment, and has a function of soil-cement-agent solidification. The soil amendment agent was admixed with reinforced fiber material for enhancement of strength and durability of roadbed. The project of trial field test of roadbed construction with special reinforcing soil treatment agent was performed in Gyunggido on December 2003. A series of field and laboratory experiments including unconfined compressive strength, permeability were carried out to investigate the physical and mechanical characteristics of solidified roadbed treated by this reinforced solidifying agent. The results of this research showed that the roadbed using normal and poor soil could be efficiently constructed by treatment of this reinforcing type solidification agent admixed with fiber material.

  • Acoustic and pressure type seabed installed wave sensors have advantage in observing long period infra-gravity wave and tsunami, while buoy type wave gauges which measure acceleration of the moored buoy motion are not able to detect long period waves. That's why most of the Japanese coastal wave observation sensors are seabed installed typed ones. Nationwide Japanese coastal wave observation systems with seabed installed sensors are gradually clarifying long-period tsunami profiles and infra-gravity wave characteristics (Nagai.et.al., 1996, 1997,2000,2002a,2002b).   • This paper presents an experimental study to investigate the behavior of mechanical anchorage of reinforcing bars in concrete members. Three kinds of mechanical anchorage which are a kind of headed reinforcements are considered in this study. Total seven specimens were prepared to consider the effects of anchoring methods (Type A, Type B and Type C) and anchorage lengths of the reinforcing bars (14 $d_{b}$, 12 $d_{b}$, 9 $d_{b}$). Pullout tests conforming to ASTM were carried out to assess the effects of several variables on anchoring strength of bars. Based on the test results, it was concluded that the behavior of the specimen anchored by the mechanical anchorage with the anchor-age length of 12 $d_{b}$, is as good as, or better than that of the specimen anchored by 90-degree standard hook.rd hook.

  • Urethane, epoxy, acrylic have common property to adhere on the concrete dried surface in the waterproofing materials at present. In the wet condition, however, the materials such as urethane, epoxy, acrylic need a long hardening time and it become a reason of water leakage as the materials breaking down. it is one of the problem to adhere to the substrate. Therefore, in this thesis, I focused to assure the structural safety and durability and quality for waterproofing and safe of construction cost by cut down the cost of labor and reduce the term of works as searching the application of field condition for hish adhesive spray type of degenerated and rubberized asphalt membrane material.

  • In the case of conventional ultra-fast hardness membrane waterproofing material (polyurea, etc.), damage such as breakage or tearing occurred frequently at the time of cracking of the surface after waterproofing. In this study, it is suggested that a waterproof layer can not cope with the occurrence of cracks at the same time by applying the soft type waterproofing material of soft type at the lower part of the construction method (securing of elongation) To minimize the possibility of water resistance.

An Approximate Solution for Diffraction-Induced Shoreline in a Double Headland and Comparison with Field Measurement

  • In past decades beach erosion has been remarkably severe along coasts of different parts of the world, so that distinct types of coastal protective measures have been implemented; seawalls, wave-dissipating breakwaters, groins, artificial headlands or detached breakwaters have been constructed. In recent years, at Bongpeong beach, South Korea, an artificial headland was constructed to stop the beach erosion. The structure resulted in severe beach erosion of the adjoining places. In order to stop the consequences, another headland was constructed at some distance, but the construction of double headland did not prevent the erosion significantly. This paper focuses on the accurate design of the artificial double headland construction. The study presents the application of equilibrium shoreline empirical formula of parabolic type to estimate the equilibrium stages of the artificial double headland beaches and an analytic solution is presented in the present study. The research has solved the empirical formula of parabolic type to find the optimum result by considering the essential parameters that influence the erosion after the construction of double headland.
