  • Being in a knowledge-based industry, many construction organizations are seeking to manage their own knowledge in an effective way. To manage knowledge, the organizations must motivate in-house people to share their knowledge. However, some barriers to knowledge sharing do exist and researches on these barriers considering construction organizations' characteristics seem rare. This study aims to identify key barriers to knowledge sharing considering the characteristics of construction organizations. Based on the identification, strategic responses to each key barrier are presented in two perspectives of technical and behavioral approach to activate knowledge sharing.

  • In recent years, the demand for green buildings is growing fast due to legislative and social pressures. Construction organizations, which play an important role in promoting building industry growth, are facing with challenges on how to adapt themselves to enhance sustainability of the buildings. In this paper, the green value chain and system frameworks, an extend application of Porter's value chain and system models, are introduced. Based on deep analysis of the green value chain and system frameworks, a revolution model for construction organizations towards green building is created. Management factors critical for a successful green building project, at the firm and project organization level, are extracted. Furthermore, external critical relationships are also identified. Fully understanding of these management factors and the model can help and enable practitioner to know what new capabilities should be deployed and developed in the long run for maximizing sustainability.

Pilot Experiment for Named Entity Recognition of Construction-related Organizations from Unstructured Text Data

  • The aim of this study is to develop a Named Entity Recognition (NER) model to automatically identify construction-related organizations from news articles. This study collected news articles using web crawling technique and construction-related organizations were labeled within a total of 1,000 news articles. The Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model was used to recognize clients, constructors, consultants, engineers, and others. As a pilot experiment of this study, the best average F1 score of NER was 0.692. The result of this study is expected to contribute to the establishment of international business strategies by collecting timely information and analyzing it automatically.

  • Background: Construction activity has made considerable breakthroughs in the past two decades on the back of increases in development activities, government policies, and public demand. At the same time, occupational health and safety issues have become a major concern to construction organizations. The unsatisfactory safety performance of the construction industry has always been highlighted since the safety management system is neglected area and not implemented systematically in Indian construction organizations. Due to a lack of enforcement of the applicable legislation, most of the construction organizations are forced to opt for the implementation of Occupational Health Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 to improve safety performance. Methods: In order to better understand factors influencing the implementation of OHSAS 18001, an interpretive structural modeling approach has been applied and the factors have been classified using matrice d'impacts croises-multiplication $appliqu{\acute{e}}$ a un classement (MICMAC) analysis. The study proposes the underlying theoretical framework to identify factors and to help management of Indian construction organizations to understand the interaction among factors influencing in implementation of OHSAS 18001. Results: Safety culture, continual improvement, morale of employees, and safety training have been identified as dependent variables. Safety performance, sustainable construction, and conducive working environment have been identified as linkage variables. Management commitment and safety policy have been identified as the driver variables. Conclusion: Management commitment has the maximum driving power and the most influential factor is safety policy, which states clearly the commitment of top management towards occupational safety and health.

Factors of Influencing the Communication of Building Construction Field Organizations (건축공사 현장 조직 커뮤니케이션에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The collaboration with members are very important things to manage the field organization in the building construction project. These collaborations are related with the communication in the organization, so the field organization ability could be advanced by improving the communication level. However, the research about communication in building construction field organizations has rarely studied. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the organizational factors to influence the communications in building construction field organizations. In this study, the leadership style of head managers and organizational cultural characteristics is determined the factors to influence the communication level by literature reviewing. The results of this study showed that the communication level is good when head managers in building construction site had an idealized influence style leadership and individual consideration style leadership. In addition, the good communicated field organizations had the higher characteristics of a consensus culture and development culture. This study is expected to help to improve the performance of the building construction field organizations.

Collaborative Relationship Analysis between Members of Apartment Construction Organizations

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze collaborative relationship between members of a building construction organization. For the analysis of collaborative relationship, this researcher collected data by conducting a questionnaire survey with members of three large building construction organizations for apartment housing. The analyzed contents of collaborative relationship were the 'frequency of communication between organizational members' and their 'reliability'. According to the analysis of communication network, construction managers had low frequency of communication, whereas those responsible for each area, like construction deputy managers, had high frequency of communication. It indicates that middle managers are at the center of communication related to construction work in construction organizations. According to the analysis of reliability network, construction managers showed highest reliability, and employees at the top level in an organizational map also showed high reliability. Since they generally have a lot of experience, are some older of age, and assume responsibility for work, they are considered to receive reliability from other organizational members. This study proved that it was possible to numerically express reliability of organizational members, which is an abstract concept, and analyze it. Therefore, it is expected that the analysis result will highly be likely to be used in the area of construction management.

  • Recently, many korean construction companies have faced many environmental changes and demands for external changes. This demand for external changes is necessary for all companies that is under the survival of fittest. The internal/external of environmental changes affect the organizations of company largely, and these management organizations have relation with the corporate of management performance closely. In response to that, to be adapted to the environmental change and to raise the corporate of management performance, the construction companies have tried to change the organizations such as organization re-design, organization re-build, organization innovation. Because the organizational structure that is preventive in the growth of companies bring a negative effect, the companies need to have the effective organizations to raise the corporate value. The effective organizations could be used the important indicator that builds the corporate goals and manages the organizations. Also, the organization development and organization management can prepare for environmental changes can be the important base to increase the management performance. Therefore, After surveying and analyzing the character of organization structure in respect to the OLC, this study present the Organization Structure Model that can design the appropriate organization by the growth of companies.

EXPLORING THE KEY FACTORS FOR BIM ACCEPTANCE IN CONSTRUCTION ORGANIZATIONS

  • Substantial research has been performed on the data standards and exchanges in the AEC/FM industry over the past several years. The growing popularity of BIM technology is based heavily upon a perception that the technology can facilitate the sharing and reuse of information during a project life-cycle. Although many researchers and practitioners are in agreement about the potential applicability and benefit of BIM in construction, it is still unclear why BIM is adopted, and what factors enhance implementation of BIM. Thus, BIM acceptance and use remains a central concern of BIM research and practice. Therefore, we propose the key factors affecting the acceptance of BIM in construction organizations using factor analysis. The key factors for BIM acceptance are identified through a literature review in TAM (Davis 1989) and related theories, and consolidated by interviews and pilot studies with professionals in construction industry. Based on the factors, a questionnaire was designed and sent out to construction organizations such as contractors, architects, and engineers in Korea. Total 148 completed questionnaires were retrieved. Using factor analysis, key factors were grouped into six dimensions. These findings will clarify what the highly prioritized factors are, and can also be used in an assessment tool for the performance of BIM utilization.

  • In a construction project in which cooperation among project members gets its importance, trust among construction site members should be foundation to enhance team spirit and achievement. This study analyzes the trust network among staff by using social network analysis (SNA) theory for organizations in apartment complex construction sites in Korea. The analysis illustrates higher level of trust for those positioning in the higher positions in hierarchy and having greater experiences. It might be attributable to own features of construction works where skills are acquired by site experience.

  • Domestic construction industry is facing big difficulties by a worldwide financial crisis. Especially the deterioration of liquidity by the reject of banks for project financing and unsold housing project made a big problem on financing for the ongoing and new projects. To solve this, it is critical for construction companies. banking facilities and public organizations to cooperate and support each other. In this study, the methods which each part can do are investigated. Construction companies can do a price reduction, finance condition improvement for deposit and down payment, asset sale and cost reduction. And Public organizations can buy the assets of construction companies with proper price and ease the regulation to activate transactions of real estate. In the case of Banking facilities, they can support arrangement and liquidation of insolvent projects and so on.
