Partnering concept has been mentioned as an innovative arrangement that helps to reduce many of the disadvantages of the traditional arrangement. Partnering in construction has been widely applied in Vietnam from late 1990s. The application of the new has arrangement spread thanks to anecdotal proofs. This concept is quite new to Vietnamese practitioners. It is necessary to conduct study as a lesson-learn of the industry to encourage the partnering implementation. This paper attempts to develop a model, using discriminant analysis, which classifies the partnering in construction projects into success levels. Dedication, teamwork, sufficiency, and balance are the four significant components in discriminant model. The proposed model is helpful to practitioners in developing, adjusting and improving their strategy for partnering implementation.
The article deals with system technology of a new solar heating system which systematically combines exiting solar collector technology, auxiliary electrical water heating, floor heating system and well insulated construction method and its application of this system to apartment house heating system in the cold region, and also analyzed performance of the new system in terms of technical and economic feasibility. Results shows that energy efficiency approaches up to 50% of the energy consumption of local construction from 1980 to 1981. The implementation of "DQ technology" to floor heating system achieved from 79% to 85% of the energy-saving benefits comparing to other housing units which were supplied by the local district heating plant.

Clients demands have been changed by construction circumstances such as high-technology, megaprojects, and the complexity of construction. Advanced foreign nations have already introduced and applied new project delivery systems (i.e, CM, DB, etc.) to deal with the change of such that. Korea has also promoted variation of the delivery systems for the progressive measure to the rapid changeable situation. Even though government has made his efforts as stated above, some clients have uniformly used those to public construction projects. That is because there are not selection criteria of project delivery system for clients. Therefore, this study presented the selection criteria of project delivery system based on project types in the public large construction projects. In addition, the study has verified the viability of the presented models through consultation with professionals and experts.
Recently, the amount of the construction and demolition wastes has rapidly increased due to increasing construction projects. In the past, most of the construction and demolition wastes were buried in the ground of thrown away. Illegally, without any treatment, so various harmful environmental pollution problems were occurred. In this study, the domestic data on the amount of the construction and demolition wastes and the disposal methods were collection and analysed. Specially, the recycling and management systems of the construction and asphalt concrete wastes were studied. A new technology and necessary policy for recycling were suggested. In general, the industrial wastes were produced in the particular place, and the amount and the characteristics of the wastes able to be estimated by the studies on the treatment technology. And the investment of the facilities for the industrial wastes have been made continuously. But little attention has been relatively given to the treatment technology. And system for the construction and demolition wastes for the political support and facilitation on the proper treatment and the recycling, the necessary of information exchange system and the manifest system for treatment of waste on commission were recommended, and also devised methods to develope and support the recycling industry. In the future, the subject of study is going to carry out analysis of economic and market in making products.
The effect of reinforcing concrete members with high strength steel bars with yield strength up to 600 MPa on the overall seismic behavior of concrete moment frames was studied experimentally and numerically. Three geometrically identical plane frame models with two bays and two stories, where one frame model was reinforced with hot rolled bars (HRB) with a nominal yield strength of 335 MPa and the other two by high strength steel bars with a nominal yield strength of 600 MPa, were tested under simulated earthquake action considering different axial load ratios to investigate the hysteretic behavior, ductility, strength and stiffness degradation, energy dissipation and plastic deformation characteristics. Test results indicate that utilizing high strength reinforcement can improve the structural resilience, reduce residual deformation and achieve favorable distribution pattern of plastic hinges on beams and columns. The frame models reinforced with normal and high strength steel bars have comparable overall deformation capacity. Compared with the frame model subjected to a low axial load ratio, the ones under a higher axial load ratio exhibit more plump hysteretic loops. The proved reliable finite element analysis software DIANA was used for the numerical simulation of the tests. The analytical results agree well with the experimental results.
Modeling approach for mesoscopic model of concrete depicting mass transportation and physicochemical reaction is important since there is growing demand for accuracy and computational efficiency of numerical simulation. Mesoscopic numerical simulation considering binder, aggregate and Interfacial Transition Zone (ITZ) generally produces huge number of DOFs, which is inapplicable for full structure. In this paper, a three-dimensional multiscale approach describing three-phase structure of concrete was discussed numerically. An effective approach generating random aggregate in polygon based on checking centroid distance was introduced. Moreover, ITZ elements were built by parallel expanding the surface of aggregates on inner side. By combining mesoscopic model including full-graded aggregate and macroscopic model, cases related to diffusivity and thickness of ITZ, volume fraction and grade of aggregate were studied regarding the consideration of multiscale compensation. Results clearly showed that larger analysis model in multiscale model expanded the diffusion space of chloride ion and decreased chloride content in front of rebar. Finally, this paper addressed some worth-noting conclusions about the chloride distribution and rebar corrosion regarding the configuration of, rebar diameter, concrete cover and exposure period.

With climate change and the global population growth, the frequency and scope of wildfires are constantly increasing, which threatened people's lives and property. For example, according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, in 2020, a total of 9,917 incidents related to wildfires were reported in California, with an estimated burned area of 4,257,863 acres, resulting in 33 fatalities and 10,488 structures damaged or destroyed. At the same time, the ongoing development of technology provides new tools to simulate and analyze the spread of wildfires. How to use new technology to reduce the losses caused by wildfire is an important research topic. A potentially feasible strategy is to simulate and analyze the spread of wildfires through computing technology to explore the impact of different factors (such as weather, terrain, etc.) on the spread of wildfires, figure out how to take preemptive/responsive measures to minimize potential losses caused by wildfires, and as a result achieve better management support of wildfires. In preparation for pursuing these goals, the authors used a powerful computing framework, Spark, developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), to study the effects of different weather factors (wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, and relative humidity) on the spread of wildfires. The test results showed that wind is a key factor in determining the spread of wildfires. A stable weather condition (stable wind and air conditions) is beneficial to limit the spread of wildfires. Joint consideration of weather factors and environmental obstacles can help limit the threat of wildfires.

To design and build a deformed building, new approaches and technologies are required, in which a design approach with parametric and generative technology is used for design and for building it, computer based fabrication technology. Even if parametric design technology is not a state of the art thing, the technology is still used widely, in order to effect the efficiency and furthermore it will continue to be innovated upon continuously. To cope with the limitation of it, the generative design system is developed. Deformed building design requires new methodology to overcome the limitations of conventional ways, which have difficulties to create enough design alternatives to explore satisfied design solutions order to deformed design have geometrical complexity and dramatically increased amount of data. Hence the generative design system can be a cutting edge methodology to solve it. However we should consider how to build the design in the real world. For this, the computer based fabrication technology which is used in mechanical industry is required to introduce to architecture and construction domain for efficiency. In this research, the methodology is modeled and tested with Bezier surface based shell structure.
Field evaluation of new scour countermeasure using geobag and aggregate is performed to prepare for the basis of design and construction standard in Korea. Polyester non-woven geotextile is determined as a geobag material and tire cord is used to sew up the geobag which contain aggregate. Hwasang-gyo(bridge) is selected as a pilot test site through office review and field investigation. According to the design flood of Hwasang-gyo(bridge), the size and volume of geobag are calculated and construction area and required number of geobags are computed by considering the specification of the pier and foundation of the bridge. After construction, scour depth around geobag construction area is measured and the stability of geobag is ascertained by using pole and digital camera.
The purpose of this study is to provide the systematic report and analysis about Apartment VE application in Design Phase. In this study, the method of VE application is classified into foure groups-changing materials, changing a method of construction, acceptance of new technology, and use of new device. The facts found in this study can be summarized as follows. Application rate of VE is highest in building circumference parts. The main reason would be that there are many applicable factors according to locations, types of work, etc. Parking lots also show similar results with the same reason. It means there are a lot of possibility to adapt value engineering in these steps during the work. So far application of value engineering has been so limited that just small changes of process or method have been tried. One reason is the lack of challenging and the other is some characteristics of construction work which is very difficult to fix after completion. In the future, it would be more efficient to apply new technology and new device in construction work. Though these attempts have been ignored in Korea so far, there are still lots of possibilities to be developed in value engineering.
