Developing a Test Collection for Korean Text Categorization (한국어 문서분류 테스트컬렉션 개발)

  • Document categorization system is important in the internet age in which huge number of documents are created and need to be dealt with. By this reason a lot of research has been done in this field. For the development of the system, a supervised learning method is widely used. This approach needs a test collection as a prerequisite. For the case of English, several test collections are available which provide a lot of help for developing systems and doing research. But no public test collections have been reported and are not available in the case of Korean. To improve the situation for Korean we are undergoing the construction of a Korean test collection. In this paper the approaches being used and current stage of the collection will be described.

Construction of a Verified Virtual NC Simulator for the Cutting Machines at Shipyard Using the Digital Manufacturing Technology (디지털 매뉴팩쳐링 기법을 이용한 절단기기의 검증된 가상 NC 시뮬레이터 구축)

  • Digital manufacturing is a technology to simulate the real manufacturing process using the virtual model representing the physical schema and the behavior of the real manufacturing system including resources, processes and product information. Therefore, it can optimize the manufacturing system or prevent the bottleneck processes through the simulation before the manufacturing plan is executed. This study presents a method to apply the digital manufacturing technology for the steel cutting process in shipyard. The system modeling of cutting shop is carried out using the IDEF and UML which is a visual modeling language to document the artifacts of a complex system. Also, virtual NC simulators of the cutting machines are constructed to emulate the real operation of cutting machines and NC codes. The simulators are able to verify the cutting shape and estimate the precise cycle time of the planned NC codes. The validity of the virtual model is checked by comparing the real cutting time and shape with the simulated results. It is expected that the virtual NC simulators can be used for accurate estimation of the cutting time and shape in advance of real cutting work.

A Scientometric Analysis of 20 Years of Research on Breast Reconstruction Surgery: A Guide for Research Design and Journal Selection

  • Background Breast reconstruction refers to the rebuilding of a woman's breast using autologous tissue or prosthetic material to form a natural-looking breast. It is increasingly offered to women undergoing mastectomy for breast cancer. However, there is no systematic analysis available for the expanding area of research on breast reconstruction. Methods A bibliometric method was used to obtain a view of the scientific production about breast reconstruction by data extracted from the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). Specific parameters were retrieved from the ISI. Articles about breast reconstruction were analyzed to obtain a view of the topic's structure, history, and document relationships using HistCite software. Trends in the most influential publications and authors were analyzed. Results The number of articles was constantly increasing. Most highly cited articles described the methods of flap construction in the surgery. Other highly cited articles discussed the psychological or emotional aspects of breast reconstruction, skin sparing mastectomy, and breast reconstruction in the irradiated breast. Conclusions This was the first breast reconstruction scientometric analysis, representing the characteristics of papers and the trends of scientific production. A constant increase in the number of breast reconstruction papers and also the increasing number of citations shows that there is an increasing interest in this area of medical science. It seems that most of the research in this field is focused on the technical aspects of surgery.

A Study on Converting the Theological Thesaurus to the Ontology by Using SKOS (SKOS를 이용한 신학 시소러스의 온톨로지로의 변환에 관한 연구)

  • In order to convert a thesaurus described by a person to ontology, the first step is to translate the thesaurus to the ontology by using SKOS, which is suitable for conversion to ontology and was chose an international standard by W3C. SKOS is suitable for converting thesaurus or subject headings or classification system to ontology, but we need a web language to describe an ontology as RDF/XML. RDF/XML is so difficult to read and write that we can need RDFa embedded in HTML document or Turtle, which is more easily describable and readable. Along with description using SKOS, this research has experimentally constructed the ontology by using ontology construction program $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$ 4.2. In addition to basic concept relationships of thesaurus like equivalent relationship, hierarchical relationships, association relationships transitive hierarchical relationships are included suggested by SKOS in this research.

The Study of Italian Velvet $14^{th}$ Century-$17^{th}$ Century

  • The purpose of this study is to document an unidentified velvet fabric which is located in the Museum. The investigation was conducted by analyzing color, weaving technique. pattern of the study object. To identify the origin of the object, many references about color trends, construction methods and patterns were accessed. Two comparative objects which were dating from 1600 to 1699 in the Museum of F.I.T. were selected since they are similar to the study object. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; (1) The type of this study object is 'cut and voided velvet'. It is obtained establishing the motif as areas of cut pile so as to form a pattern, while leaving other areas of the grounded weave without pile. Two flowers and two tulips with S curved stems are composed as one unit in the vertical direction. (2) The colors used in this study object. which are ivory, smoke blue, medium orange, and yellow. are part of a new trend color in the $17^{th}$ century. (3) The vertical undulating stripe patterns are also of significance in this fabric. They seemed to be contemporary with the serpentine line which was common since the $15^{th}$ century and the vertical stripes pattern which appeared from the $16^{th}$ century. (4) The stylized tulip patterns of this study object began to appear in the early $17^{th}$ century. The stems and leaves of this patterns are less sinuous than the floral motifs of the later $17^{th}$ century. Therefore, the study object is dated to early in $17^{th}$ century because of the color combination. stripes. stylized tulips, leaves. and stems are showing the characteristics of this period.

  • PDM is an integrated solution for managing various kinds of document and information for a whole life~cycle of product management. PDM system spans a huge and complex area and requires so many efforts and budgets for development. A framework has been considered a promising way to improve productivity by reusing the software architecture, not just one part of the design or just source code. This was the reaSon why we developed PDM (Product Data Management) framework. Framework can reduce the time and efforts to develop a new PDM application. However, it also requires supporting environment since a framework is a big set of classes where their interactions are so complex. With this supporting environment, it is easy to understand the framework at a glance and easy to identify what hot spots to be refined to meet new requirements. In this paper, a new framework-supporting reuse environment based on the meta-repository was constructed for easy and convenient reuse.

Construction of Printed Hangul Character Database PHD08 (한글 문자 데이터베이스 PHD08 구축)

  • The application of OCR moves from traditional formatted documents to the web document and natural scene images. It is usual that the new applications use not only standard fonts of Myungjo and Godic but also various fonts. The conventional databases which have mainly been constructed with standard fonts have limitations in applying to the new applications. In this paper, we generate 243 image samples for each of 2350 Hangul character classes which differs in font size, quality, and resolution. Additionally each sample was varied according to binarization threshold and rotational transformation. Through this process 2187 samples were generated for each character class. Totally 5,139,450 samples constitutes the printed Hangul character database called the PHD08. In addition, we present the characteristics and recognition performance by an commercial OCR software.

A Study on the Improvement of the BRM Classification System for Policy Information Service (정책정보제공서비스를 위한 BRM분류체계 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to suggest a classification system adapted to provide policy information services. For this purpose, this study completed the following processes; BRM taxonomy analysis, document analysis, analysis of classification systems providing policy information, consulting classification experts, surveys and interviews with policy information consumers, and an empirical validation process through the actual construction of policy information materials. Finally, this study complemented and modified the BRM taxonomy system and proposed a classification system appropriate to policy information resources. Through the procedures of experts discussion, the steps of BRM analysis appropriate to provide policy information services is determined as three steps. The domestic institute websites for policy information services has confirmed the appropriateness of the BRM taxonomy system through the analysis system and service research to provide policy information resources. Also through the specialist interview, the confirmation of BRM and the improvement has been drawn. Through the questionaires, the study analyzes the appropriateness of available BRM taxonomy system and the requirements by subjects. And through the empirical verificaion, it determines the subject of BRM taxonomy system for policy information services.

A Construction of an Ontology Server based Intelligent Retrieval using XMDR (XMDR을 이용한 지능형 검색 온톨로지 서버 구축)

  • As Internet and network technologies have been developed, e-commerces are getting more complex and more various. This paper, for meta-data and data exchange between heterogeneous database systems, uses XML schema proposed in W3C, and XML schema can present meta-data and data of relational database system as XML document format which is structural. It supports various primitive data formats, so that it uses the structure which reflects adequately data formats which relational database system offered. However, current e-commerces use heterogeneous platforms, so difficulties that is mutual interchange and management exist. For the solution for these problems, a standard ontology which defines relations of product classifications and the standard of property expression and the location ontology which offers e-commerce's information about products are constructed. Applying these ontology information to search system, by offering information which customers need efficient search is performed. Combining these ontologies and product classification category information, called XMDR, this XMDR is introduced into product search system, so this paper proposes to construct ontology server method for efficient search.

Interface Construction for Printout Security Management System (출력물 보안 관리 시스템을 위한 인터페이스 구축)

  • The printout management system should analyze the pattern of existence of personal information (resident number, card number) in the output log and users should be provided with functions such as warning message pop-up, forced printing termination, mailing to administrator, independently logs management. Authentication management can also be performed only by registered users by installing an agent on a user PC, and it should have a restriction function to permit or deny work according to user information. In addition, when printing/copying/scanning using this equipment, it is possible to use document printing and multifunction copier after ID card authentication and ID/PW should be input to device when ID card is not used. In this study, we developed these interfaces with WOWSOFT co., Ltd, a security company that has better technology than the existing printout security methods, to construct the printout management system. Also we designed the interface of basic functions necessary for printout management and contributed to the establishment of printout management system.
