  • Curved beam elements with two nodes based on shallow beam geometry and strain interpolations are employed in eigenvalue analysis. In these elements, the displacement interpolation functions and mass matrices are consistent with strain fields. To assess the quality of the element mass matrix in free vibration problems, several numerical experiments are performed. In these analysis, both the inconsistent mass matrices using linear displacement interpolation function and the consistent mass matrices are used to show the difference. The numerical results demonstrate that the accuracy is closely related to the property of the mass matrix as well as that of the stiffness matrix and that the mass matrix consistent with strain fields is very beneficial to eigenvalue analysis. Also, it is proved that the strain based elements are very efficient in a wide range of element aspect ratios and curvature properties.

  • A consistent general order nodal method for solving the three-dimensional neutron diffusion equation in (x-y-z) geometry has been derived by using a weighted integral technique and expanding the spatial variable by the Legendre orthogonal series function. The equation set derived can be converted into any order nodal schemes. It forms a compact system for general order of nodal moments. The method utilizes fewer unknown variables in the schemes for iterative-convergence solution than other nodal methods listed in the literatures, and because the method utilizes the analytic solutions of the transverse-integrated one dimensional equations and a consistent approximation for a given spatial variable through all the solution procedures, which renders the use of an approximation for the transverse leakages no longer necessary, we can expect extremely accurate solutions and the solution would converge exactly when the mesh width is decreased or the approximation order is increased.

  • This paper derives a consistent and bias corrected extension of Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC), $AIC_{bc}$, based on Kullback-Leibler information. This criterion has terms that penalize the overparametrization more strongly for small and large samples than that of AIC. The overfitting problem of the asymptotically efficient model selection criteria for small and large samples will be overcome. The $AIC_{bc}$ also provides a consistent model order selection. Thus, it is widely applicable to data with small and/or large sample sizes, and to cases where the number of free parameters is a relatively large fraction of the sample size. Relationships with other model selection criteria such as $AIC_c$ of Hurvich, CAICF of Bozdogan and etc. are discussed. Empirical performances of the $AIC_{bc}$ are studied and discussed in better model order choices of a linear regression model using a Monte Carlo experiment.

  • In this paper, a procedure for automated optimized design of reinforced concrete frames has been presented. The procedure consists of formulation and solution of the design problem in the form of an optimization problem. The minimization of total cost of R/C frame has been taken as the objective of optimization problem. In this research, consistent approximation method is applied to explicitly formulate constraints and objective function in terms of the design variables. In the presented method, the primary optimization problem is replaced with a sequence of explicit sub-problems. Each sub-problem is efficiently solved using the Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) method. The proposed method is demonstrated through a four-story frame and an eight-story frame, and the optimum results are compared with those in the available literature. It is shown that the proposed method can be easily applied to obtain rational, reliable, economical and practical designs for Reinforced Concrete Moment Resisting Frames (RCMRFs) while it is converged after a few analyses.

  • Reducing the logistic cost may be accomplished by numbers of logistic management methods, but the most fundamental and essential one is the accomplishment of the consistent reverse logistics system that is the core of worker performance system, and the purpose of consistent reverse system is the treatment of logistic functions such as transportation, storage and unloading with consistent logistics, and increasing the turnover ratio is required for the improvement of the system. As the turnover ratios is increased, this paper make reverse worker performance evaluation system with lifetime value include of weight variables.

  • The usual arithmetic operations on real numbers can be extended to arithmetical operations on fuzzy intervals by means of Zadeh's extension principle based on a t-norm T. A t-norm is called consistent with respect to a class of fuzzy intervals for some arithmetic operation if this arithmetic operation is closed for this class. It is important to know which t-norms are consistent with a particular type of fuzzy intervals. Recently Dombi and Gyorbiro proved that addition is closed if the Dombi t-norm is used with two bell-shaped fuzzy intervals. A result proved by Mesiar on a strict t-norm based shape preserving additions of LR-fuzzy intervals with unbounded support is recalled. As applications, we define a broader class of bell-shaped fuzzy intervals. Then we study t-norms which are consistent with these particular types of fuzzy intervals. Dombi and Gyorbiro's results are special cases of the results described in this paper.

  • In this paper, we present a consistent and efficient edit propagation method that is applied for light field data. Unlike conventional sparse edit propagation, the coherency between light field sub-aperture images is fully considered by utilizing light field consistency in the optimization framework. Instead of directly solving the optimization function on all light field sub-aperture images, the proposed optimization framework performs sparse edit propagation in the extended focus image domain. The extended focus image is the representative image that contains implicit depth information and the well-focused region of all sub-aperture images. The edit results in the extended focus image are then propagated back to each light field sub-aperture image. Experimental results on test images captured by a Lytro off-the-shelf light field camera confirm that the proposed method provides robust and consistent results of edited light field sub-aperture images.

  • The epitaxial layer structures for blue InGaN light emitting diodes have been optimized for high brightness applications with the output power levels exceeding 1000 $W/cm^2$ by using a self-consistent finite element method. The light-current-voltage relationship has been directly estimated from the multiband Hamiltonian for wurtzite crystals. To analyze the efficiency droop at high injection levels, the major nonradiative recombination processes and carrier spillover have also been taken into account. The wall-plug efficiency at high injection levels up to several thousand $A/cm^2$ has been successfully evaluated for various epilayer structures facilitating optimization of the epitaxial structures for desired output power levels.

  • Surface complexation models employ mass law equations to describe the reaction of surface functional groups with ions in the solution and also Gouy-Chapman theory to consider the electrostatic effects in the surface reactions. In current surface complexation models, however, the coulombic factors used are not wholly consistent with the Gouy-Chapman model of the surface. This study was to provide the derivation of the coulombic term usually employed and then a revised coulombic term completely consistent with Gouy-Chapman Theory. The electrical potential energy. zF${\psi}$, in current surface complexation models is not consistent with the Gouy-Chapman theory with the potential gradient close to the charged surface but with the Donnan model with the uniform potential. Even though the new coulombic factor yielded lower surface potential, it provided worse fits for acid-base titration data of the goethite suspensions.

  • An analytical solution for the shape functions of a beam segment supported on a generalized two-parameter elastic foundation is derived. The solution is general, and is not restricted to a particular range of magnitudes of the foundation parameters. The exact shape functions can be utilized to derive exact analytic expressions for the coefficients of the element stiffness matrix, work equivalent nodal forces for arbitrary transverse loads and coefficients of the consistent mass and geometrical stiffness matrices. As illustration, each distinct coefficient of the element stiffness matrix is compared with its conventional counterpart for a beam segment supported by no foundation at all for the entire range of foundation parameters.
