New Memristor-Based Crossbar Array Architecture with 50-% Area Reduction and 48-% Power Saving for Matrix-Vector Multiplication of Analog Neuromorphic Computing

  • In this paper, we propose a new memristor-based crossbar array architecture, where a single memristor array and constant-term circuit are used to represent both plus-polarity and minus-polarity matrices. This is different from the previous crossbar array architecture which has two memristor arrays to represent plus-polarity and minus-polarity connection matrices, respectively. The proposed crossbar architecture is tested and verified to have the same performance with the previous crossbar architecture for applications of character recognition. For areal density, however, the proposed crossbar architecture is twice better than the previous architecture, because only single memristor array is used instead of two crossbar arrays. Moreover, the power consumption of the proposed architecture can be smaller by 48% than the previous one because the number of memristors in the proposed crossbar architecture is reduced to half compared to the previous crossbar architecture. From the high areal density and high energy efficiency, we can know that this newly proposed crossbar array architecture is very suitable to various applications of analog neuromorphic computing that demand high areal density and low energy consumption.

유한대판법에 의한 복합적층절판의 해석 (FINITE STRIP ANALYSIS OF FOLDED LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES)

  • 본 연구에서는 복합재료로 구성된 구조물로서 박스거더와 같이 임의의 각도로 연결된 절판을 유한대판법으로 해석하였다. 각 적층판의 강성으로부터 적분에 의하여 판두께 방향의 전체 강성을 구하고 최소 포텐샬 에너지 이론으로부터 구한 평형방정식에 대입하여 전체 강성매트릭스를 구하였다. 슬래브나 박스거더의 변위 함수는 횡 방향의 Hermite 다항식과 종 방향의 조화함수의 결합으로 가정하였다. 종 방향 조화함수는 단부의 경계조건을 만족시키는 함수를 사용하였다. 해석시간의 단축 및 모델링이 쉽다는 장점을 가진 유한대판법은 복합적층 재료로 구성된 박스거더와 같은 절판해석의 경우에도 매우 정확한 해를 얻을 수 있다.

Application of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete for retrofitting the damaged exterior reinforced concrete beam-column joints

  • In the present research work, the effectiveness and the efficiency of a retrofitting approach using a layer of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) jacket for damaged substandard exterior beam-column joints (BCJs) is experimentally investigated. The main objective of this study is to rehabilitate the already damaged BCJs to meet the serviceability requirements without compromising safety. According to the proposed strengthening technique, a chipped surface, lightly brushed with a dry condition was selected for making a successful bond between normal concrete substrate surface (NCSS) and UHPFRC. Then a fresh UHPFRC jacket with a thickness of 30 mm was cast around the damaged specimens. The entire test matrix was comprised of three 1/3 scale damaged exterior BCJs with a different column axial load (CAL). These specimens were repaired with UHPFRC and retested under monotonic loading. Based on the experimental results, repaired specimens showed an excellent performance in terms of their load-displacement response, maximum strength, displacement ductility, initial stiffness, secant stiffness and energy dissipation capacity when compared with the corresponding values registered when these specimens were tested in their virgin state. This rehabilitative intervention not only restored the strength, stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of severely damaged specimens but also improved their performance.

  • poly(vinyl chloride)와 가소제만으로 된 막을 제조하여 몇 가지 염기성 의약품에 대한 감응 특성을 조사하여 보았다. 감응막을 초기의 전위값으로 빨리 되돌리기 위하여 황산으로 처리하였다. chlorpromazine을 정량할 때 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether을 사용한 막에서 $10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-3}M$, dioctyl PhenylPhosphnate, isododecyl phenylphosphate, dioctyl maleate 등의 경우 $10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-2}M$까지의 직선성 검량선을 얻을 수 있었고, 항생제, 당, 그리고 1급 아민화합물에 대한 감응선은 적게 나타났다.

Asymptotic Analyses of a Statistical Multiplexor with Heterogeneous ATM Sources

  • Two asymptotic analyses of the queue length distribution at a statistical multiplexor supporting heterogeneous exponential on-off sources are considered. The first analysis is performed by approximating the cell generation rates as a multi-dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process and then applying the Benes queueing formula. In the second analysis, w state with a system of linear equations derived from the exact expressions of the dominant eigenvalue of the matrix governing the queue length distribution. Assuming that there are a large number of sources, we obtain asymptotic approximations to the dominant eigenvalue. Based on the analyses, we define a traffic descriptor to include the mean and the variance of the cell generation rate and a burstiness measure. A simple expression for the quality of service (QoS) in cell loss rate is derived in terms of the traffic descriptor parameters and the multiplexor parameters (output link capacity and buffer size). The result is then used to quantify the factors determining the required capacity of a call taking the statistical multiplexing gain into consideration. As an application of the analyses, we can use the required capacity calculation for simple yet effective connection admission control(CAC) algorithms.

Development of Ship Vibration Analysis Software PFADS-R3 and Its Applications

  • PFFEM software, PFADS has been developed for the vibration predictions and analysis of coupled system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. PFFEM is numerical method which solves energy governing equation using finite element technique for complicated structures where the exact solutions are not available. Through the upgrades, present PFADS R3 could cover the general beam and plate structures including various kinds of beam-plate rigid joints and other joint systems such as spring-damper junction and rigid bar connection. This software is composed of 3 parts; translator, model converter and solver. The translator makes its own FE-model from bulk data of commercial FE software, and the model converter is used to convert FE-model to PFFE-model automatically. The solver calculates vibrational energy density and intensity for PFFE-model by solving global matrix equations of PFFEM. For the applications of real transportation systems, a container ship model has been examined with respect to major parameters, and reliable results have been obtained.

마찰부식 방지를 위한 Ni-P-PTFE 코팅의 적용 (Application of Ni-P-PTFE Coatings for Preventing Fretting Corrosion)

  • Au/Ni coatings are widely used in the electrical interconnect system, such as connectors, sockets and wire crimps. But due to repeated mechanical contacts, fretting corrosion occurs and causes a rapid increase in resistance. As an attempt to resolve these problem, application of Ni-P-PTFE to replace Ni undercoats was proposed, for which basic materials properties of Ni-P-PTFE coatings for preventing fretting corrosion was examined in this study. The Ni-P-PTFE coatings were formed by electroless Ni plating and PTFE coating followed by the heat-treatment. PTFE particles were found to be uniformly distributed in the Ni-P matrix. The Ni-P-PTFE coatings showed the excellent anti-adherent property with the contact angle of $104.3^{\circ}$, microhardness of 144.3 Hv comparable to that of Ni-P, and electric conductivity equivalent to that of Ni-P.

Vibration-mode-based story damage and global damage of reinforced concrete frames

  • An attempt is conducted to explore the relationship between the macroscopic global damage and the local damage of shear-type RC frames. A story damage index, which can be expressed as multi-variate functions of modal parameters, is deduced based on the tridiagonal matrix of the shear-type frame. The global damage model is also originated from structural modal parameters. Due to the connection of modal damage indexes, the relationship between the macroscopic global damage and the local story damage is reasonably established. In order to validate the derivation, a case study is carried out via an 8-story shear-type frame. The sensitivities of modal damage indexes to the location and severity of local story damages are studied. The evolution of the global damage is investigated as well. Results show that the global damage is sensitive to the degree of story damage, but it's not sensitive to its location. As the number of the damaged stories increases, more and more modes will be involved. Meanwhile, the global damage evolution curve changes from the concave shape to the S-type and then finally transforms into the convex shape. Through the proposed story damage, modal damage and global damage model, a multi-level damage assessment method is established.

사각 링 마이크로스트립 안테나 해석 (Analysis of Rectangular Ring Microstrip Antenna)

  • 본 논문에서는 디세그멘테이션 기법을 이용하여 사각 링 패치 안테나를 해석하였으며, 그린함수로부터의 직사각형 세그먼트의 임피던스 계산과 평면 전자기 구조체에 대한 디세그멘테이션 방법이 논의되고 있다. 사각 링 캐버티는 큰 사각형 캐버티에서 작은 사각형 캐버티를 빼낸 구조이므로, 사각형 캐버티에 대한 그린함수의 항으로 표현된 각각의 임피던스 행렬들에 다 단자 결합법을 적용하여 사각 링 캐버티의 전체 임피던스 매트릭스를 구한다. 전자계는 8개 경계조건을 만족하는 벡터 포텐셜로부터 구할 수 있다. 각 에지에서의 전자계 분포는 여기된 모드에 따라 막대 그래프로 표현하였다. 이 결과를 이용하여 사각 링 패치 안테나의 동작모드를 분석할 수 있다.
