The LDS(Laser Direct Structuring) is one of the new direct writing methods to fabricate conductive patterns by energy beam. It uses thermoplastic polymers with an additive compound that serves as plating seed after the activation by laser. The advantages of LDS include the miniaturization of electrical components, design flexibility, and a reduced number of production steps. The purpose of this study is to investigate the fundamental mechanism for LDS and the characteristics of conductive patterns by laser parameters. These results were studied by SEM, EDX, and XPS analysis. We have used a 20W pulse-modulated fiber laser and copper electroless plating to fabricate conductive patterns on polymer. The result showed that electroless copper plating seed caused the laser cracking of additive compound. In particular, the additive compound contained in copper metal oxides atoms will be changed to copper metal elements. Also, the characteristics of conductive patterns were dependent on laser parameter, especially laser fluence.

In this study, we have investigated a conductive fiber properties for smart wear. The effect of factors such as fiber length, denier, sewing method, washing on conductivity achieved was investigated and determined using stereoscopic microscope, SEM and LCR meter.
Fabricatio of the potassium-titanate fiber with K2O${\cdot}nTiO_2$ composition and coating of electrically conductive Sb-doped $SnO_2$ (ATO: Antimony Tin Oxide) layer on the fiber on the fiber were the fiber were the aims of this work. The fiber fabricated by slow-cooling technique showed the mean length of $15{\mu}m$ and mean diameter of $0.5{\mu}m$. Three different coating methods i.e, sol-gel, co-precipitation and urea technique, were attempted to coat the conductive ATO layer on the potassium-titanate fiber. The influences of coating method, concentrations of ATO(5∼70wt%) and Sb (0∼20wt%), temperature in the range of $450\;to\;800^{\circ}C$, number of washing (3∼4 times) on the resistivity of the ATO coated fiber were examined in details. The fiber coated ATO by coprecipitation exhibited lower resistivity of 103${\Omega}{\cdot}$cm at the 30 wt% of ATO, and showed nearly constant low value of $60{\Omega}{\cdot}cm\;to\;90{\Omega}{\cdot}$cm at the higher concentration of ATO.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to develop a deicing pavement system using carbon fiber or graphite with high electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. METHODS: Based on literature reviews, in general, conventional concrete does not exhibit electrical and thermal conductivity. In order to achieve a new physical property, experiments were conducted by adding graphite and carbon fiber to a mortar specimen. RESULTS: The result of the laboratory experiment indicates that the addition of graphite can significantly reduce the compressive strength and improve the thermal conductivity of concrete. In the case of carbon fiber, however, the compressive strength of the concrete is slightly increased, whereas, the thermal conductivity is slightly decreased against the plain mortar irrespective of the length of the carbon fiber. In addition, a mixture of the graphite and carbon fiber can greatly improve the degree of heating test. CONCLUSIONS : Various properties of cement mortar change with the use of carbon fiber or graphite. To enhance the conductivity of concrete for deicing during winter, both carbon fiber and graphite are required to be used simultaneously.

There was little development in transparent conductive polymer films and their limited studies have been mainly focused on polymer films coated by water-soluble PEDOT doped with the polymeric counteranion poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT-PSS)[1-3]. However PEDOT-PSS as coating material has some difficulties because of high viscosity and low solubility in organic solvent except for in water. In this study, in order to extend practical applications of PEDOT and to prepare conductive PC films, we tried to prepare PEDOT-coated PC films and investigated their conductivity and thermal stability. Two types of conductive materials are selected and their applicable properties are investigated so as to give the capability of self-diagnosis of fracture in composite mortar, concrete and reinforced concrete. In this study, for giving selfdiagnosis capability, the powder of cokes and milled carbon fiber as conductive materials are selected and intermixed with mortar, concrete and reinforced concrete. After examining change in the value of electric resistance before and after the occurrence of cracks at each flexural load-stage in composite mortar, concrete or reinforced concrete, the relationships of each factors (electric resistance, crack and flexural load) are analyzed. As the results, it can be recognized that conductive materials with powder of cokes and milled carbon fiber can be applied for self-diagnosis of flexural fracture in composite mortar, concrete and reinforced concrete specimen.
The purpose of this paper is to develop a rational engineering conductive carbon filled composite through understanding of the effect of conductive carbon black. Polycabonate(PC), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene copolymer(ABS) and PC/ABS resin were used as matrix of the conductive polymer composites. From the experimental results, PC filled with the fiber shaped carbon black showed a possibility to be a rational engineering conductive composite.

A new material was tested and its applicability was investigated so as to give the capability of self-diagnosis of fracture in composite mortar. In the research for giving self-diagnosis capability, conductive mortar intermixed with cokes and carbon fiber powder(milled carbon fiber) was developed and its using for self-diagnosis material was proposed. Then after examining change in the value of electric resistance and AE characteristics before and after the occurrence of cracks at each weight-stage, the relationships of each factors were analyzed. As the results, it can be recognized that a new composite material with cokes and carbon fiber powder(milled carbon fiber) can be applied for self-diagnosis of fracture in mortar specimen.
