  • Hollow core slabs generally have not been used for a bridge slab or a parking in Korea. In this study, high performance hollow core slabs, which has been the most thick one in domestic are re-designed and examined for practical use. Flexural tests were performed on four 315mm deep hollow core slabs to investigate adaptability for high vehicle live loadings and composite action with topping concrete. The precast slabs were reinforced with 10-l/2 inch dia-strands at the lower of slab and 4-l/2 inch dia-strands at tile upper of slab, and cast with 80mm deep topping concrete. Those tested hollow core slabs showed ductile failure behaviors which were conform to the current Ultimate Strength Design Method for a span of l0m up to the live load of 1, 000 kg/$m^2$.

  • In the design of ductile moment-resisting frames (DMRFs) following the strong column-weak beam dsign philosophy, it is desirable that the joint and column remain essentially elastic in order to insure proper energy dissipation and lateral stability of the structure. The joint has been identified as the "weak link" in DMRFs because any stiffness or strength deterioration in this region can lead to substantial drifts and the possibility of collapse due to P-delta effects. Moreover, the engineer is faced with the difficult task of detailing an element whose size is determined by the framing members, but which must resist a set of loads very different from those used in the design of the beams and columns. Four 2/3-scale beam-column-slab joint assemblies were designed according to existing code requirements of ACI 318-89, representing interior joints of DMRFs with reinforced high strength concrete. The influence on aseismic behavior of beam-column joints due to monolithic slab, has been investigated.estigated.

  • A new-styrofoam-concrete composite sandwich slab with function of heat insulation is designed. Four full-scale simply supported composite sandwich slabs with different shear connectors are tested. Parameters under study are the thickness of the concrete, the height of profiled steel sheeting, the influence of shear connectors including the steel bars and self-drilling screws. Experimental results showing that four specimens mainly failed in bending failure mode; the shear connectors can limit the longitudinal slippery between the steel profiled sheeting and the concrete effectively and thus guarantee the good composite action and cooperative behavior of two materials. The ultimate sagging bending resistance can be determined based on plastic theory. This new composite sandwich slab has high sagging bending resistance and good ductility. Additionally, these test results help the design and application of this new type of composite sandwich slab.

  • Recently the construction of high-rise reinforced concrete building is progressively increased as the social demands. It is significantly important factors such as economy, the safety of structure, and the flexibility of internal space. Therefore new structural system is also required to be attained the reduction of story height, the flexibility and efficient use of space. The most suitable structural system is with the economy and flexibility, flat plate slab system in high-rise reinforced concrete building. In this research, it was focused in the improvement of shear performance in the flat plate system using high ductile fiber reinforced mortar. It was evaluated the shear performance in the critical region of slab-column connection. The flat plate system, designed by the high performance and safety, was developed as a new technique in the application of high-rise R/C building.

  • This paper describes a proposal for evaluation load carrying capacity of reinforced concrete slab bridges considering the moment redistribution. Recognition of redistribution of moments can be important because it permits a more realistic appraisal of the actual load-carrying capacity of a structure, thus leading to improved economy. In addition, it permits the designer to modify, within limits, the moment diagrams for which members are to be designed. The predicted results shows that moment redistribution are different from estimated by the current KCI, ACI 318-02, EC2 provisions, and propose reasonable load carrying capacity of the reinforced concrete slab bridge.

  • In this study, the purpose of the study is to determine the depth of damage caused by early frost damage in concrete slab structures under the conditions of external temperature during winter. In other words, we intend to analyze the depth variation of the early frost damage as the thickness of the normal strength concrete slab members changes. As a result, the thinner the component was, the deeper the early frost damage was found to be, and the resulting increase in brightness of the concrete was delayed. and It is analyzed that under this test condition, an early frost damage was created with a thickness of 50 mm for the member and a thickness of 39 mm for the member of 300 mm.

  • The first thing in remodelling of an apartment is the enlargement of living area, which is usually attained through extending balcony or corridor to the outside of the building. As a reasonable solution to the extension of floor a method of rigid connection in which steel bars are injected into the existing slab and concrete of newly building slab is installed with proper reinforcement is proposed in this research. To verify the structural performance of the method bending tests have been carried out for seven slab specimens.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the response of the high-strength concrete beam-column-slab subassembly with the response of a normal-strength concrete specimens. Four assemblies were designed 2/3 scale beam-column-slab joint(fc'=240kg/cm2 fc'=700kg/cm2) and tested to investigate seismic behaviour. From the test results 1) flexral cracks emerge to inside of bean deeply for high strength concrete member 2) the high-strength specimens represented stable hysteretic behaviour for the displacement ductility 5.5 but degradation in stiffness and strength and unstable hysteretic behaviors were observed owing to the brittleness of high-strength concrete beyond its range.

  • The concern about hollow core PC slab has been increased to improve the workability during a construction of building by reducing self weight of structural members. In this manner, recently, TRS (Tripple Ribs Slab) was developed as a new type of half PC slab system. TRS member consists of the triple webs and the bottom flange prestressed by strands. The slab system is completed by casting of topping concrete on the TRS after filling styrofoam between the webs. This paper, presents a flexural experiment to investigate the flexural capacity of the TRS. Five full scale TRS members were made and tested under simple support condition to be failed by flexure and their strength was evaluated by code equations; the variables in the test are the depth and the presence of topping or raised spot formed when slip-forming. In addition, a nonlinear sectional analysis was performed for the specimens and the result was compared with the test results. From the study, it was found that the TRS has enough flexural strength and ductility to resist the design loads and its strength can be suitably predicted by using code equations. The raised spot did not affect the strength so that the spot need not to be removed by doing additional work. For the more accurate prediction of TRS's flexural behavior by using nonlinear sectional analysis, it is recommended to consider the concrete's brittle property due to slip-forming process in the modeling.

  • The passage of railway vehicles generates mechanical vibrations and noises. This problem can be mitigated by the 'floating slab track' that isolating from infrastructures by installing vibration isolator in the concrete slab track. In the previous researches, adjacent floating slab tracks are connected by dowel bar system. It has been reported that many dowel bars with less diameter show better load transfer efficiency (LTE) compared to small number of dowel bars with larger diameter under the condition of the same dowel area. In this study, dowel system is further considered as a concrete anchorage system and the design strength of the dowel system was evaluated based on ACI code 318-08 Appendix D. The design strength of dowel system is then verified against failure load test of floating slab system.
